I can't say enough good things about what I've seen so far.
Non-spoilery thoughts:
- The opening cinematic is beautiful and strikes exactly the right tone.
- I am overjoyed to see mouse-over highlighted text used as a storytelling tool in this game. Tyranny really showed the potential of that system as a way to help get players up to speed with a world's backstory fast without drowning you in exposition and cutscenes.
- In general I think the game's narrative presentation strikes an excellent balance between giving too much information and too little. It brings newbies up to speed on the broad strokes fast and gives you plenty of ways to learn more if you want to go deeper. It doesn't drown you in exposition but it also doesn't withhold important context under the belief that you must be a 50-year-old with a PhD in the lore.
- Character creation for your commander is neat. The lifepath options are cool and the portrait generator seems powerful. The fact that we can't use it on our MechWarriors made me worried it was going to be skimpy, but it seems pretty robust? Also, you get to select your pronoun, and "they" is an option, which is really cool.
- The opening mission really sells the Battletech vibe.
- I wasn't sure about Kamea's VO after the story trailer, where she sounded kind of dour and ponderous, but she's much more enjoyable to listen to in-game.
