I am only a scrub. Roughly 2800 hours in the game and done tons of world conquests. I like to play historically and I have never had problems pre-1.5 to kill of France by going through Belgium. However I have done like 5-10 attempts now on Ironman Regular and there is no chance in hell. I have tried almost everything. Over focus on CAS and Air. Or overfocus on armor units. A bit of both. The amount of divisions I use is 2 x 4 Generals with 15-18 divisions each of 9-1 ratio of infantry and tanks. Its roughly 120 divisions og 20-30 width.

I mainly focus on mils from the start so I can get a lot of units going. In early 1939 in go straight for Netherlands after Poland is dead. Thats done in a couple of days. In Belium however I meet stacks of 10-15 UK divisions togheter with Belgian and French forces.

I bring in Italy as well, he manages to come in a bit through the alps, but gets pushed back.

So far every attempt has been failed. And what annoys me is that I meet UK divisions in Benelux in 1939. On historical mode, they should not even be there.

I'm only a scrub. I only play historical USSR (bar the odd stray across the road to play Germany). In the five "Regular" USSR games I have played since Cornflakes AI Germany has taken Paris (ie France) in November '39.

Additionally in my games I've never seen the UK do jack other than to get kicked out of the Med and the Middle East.

Go figure.

The one thing I would say is that maybe... the USSR game isn't as cut and dried as it used to be. Anyway, I will keep more thoughts on that to my USSR thread :).

AI focuses way more on player nations borders now. Deploying twice the amount of units and frontline priority compared to a AI threat. So anybody coming with AI to AI examples of France vs Germany doesn't mean much related to the OP.

Some advice for anyone playing the UK (especially first time since the new patch): Germany will send tanks once it's done in Europe; either fortify that like it's a main base or be prepared to use Nigeria as a stepping off point.

Your not a good player then. Germany is overpowered in that version so it should be a cakewalk. Also, why are you complaining about UK divisions being in Benelux in 1939? Historical mode means the USSR won't go Fascist and dumb stuff like that, not AI Germany will start WW2 on Sept 1, 1939. Not earlier, not later.

The game assumes with the start of the war that Germany will go after the Benelux nations right after declaring on Poland. It doesn't wait until May, 1940, it goes after them right away and they and France usually fall around Halloween (October 31).

Have you tried 40 width units, at least for your assault troops?

Are you being serious OP? 2800 hours means that you spend 4.5 hours playing this game EVERY DAY for 7 days a week. And god forbid if you miss one day you have to play 9 hours the next day.

That might just be the time the game has been running on the computer. I've got even more hours but a lot of them are just from leaving the game going when I go out or go to sleep (when I'm playing it) as I'd get frustrated with how long it took to load Hearts of Iron III sometimes.

I second the earlier request for a savegame for it's hard to second-guess playstyle based on a paragraph. However, I suggest you look into how many more mils you could build by a particular target date by building more civs first. Civs which then can be used to build mils. Then look into division templates which maximise attack. You might have to deviate from a purely historical template design in order to break the enemy in the location you want to break through.

Hope that helps,

-Armin

What does historical mode have to do with troop deployments. It only affects things like NF choices.

To me, historical means that you play a campaign and things happens pretty much historically. And I consider alliance between countries, and when they participate in the war quite important. These things are at scale of getting attacked by Japan in by US in 1938.

Yes true. I did one game as Japan and was shocked to see Germany just walking across the maginot line and took Paris in 10 days.

If you have DLC:
Distract them in Benelux. Activate Manstein's Frotress Buster ability and attack right through Maginot. Not historical, but surprisingly effective.

Historical mode option only modifies the focuses that the AI will take, and its not 100% in all cases either, you can still get some deviation.

The French and British considered going into Belgium before the nazis did, they did ask the Belgians for permission to do so and Belgium refused they then considered doing it anyways but decided against it instead placing troops on the belgian border ready to move into belgium when the germans atrtacked so they could move into belgium and take up defensive positions there, France was especially driving in this because they did not want the war on french soil considering the suffering of the french civilians in WW1.

Fance and England didn't expect the germans to advance as fast as they did and never got close to the defensive positions they had wanted to setup in belgium.

So i would say that french and english troops in belgium is a likely historical thing.

Sorry, I don't want to sound offensive, but if you indeed got 2800 hours clocked, and somehow managed not to take France as grossly overpowered Germany, you are doing something very wrong.
