prior to operation panzyr it is possible to get an all assault mech lance. Im not sure what the upper limits might be prior to doing the prison mission.

True, but the grind required to do so without doing story missions is silly. Just advance the story, get the mechs the game lines up for you, then transition to more salvage heavy playstyle.

Sorry to be unclear; I agree with you here, and I hope that bears out in play, as I think it makes the game more interesting.

I also hope it proves not to be too easy, either, against the AI. I'd hate to see even half of mech kills come from rear attacks.
It really doesn't look like it is. I think I've seen more streamers get their 'mechs screwed up by turning their backs to the enemy than I have streamers killing AI 'mechs with back shots.

One problem I see is that the heat gauge only shows overheat.
It's not that easy to guess how much free heat you have remaining after the jump.

Not sure if you have seen it in the streams, but on the heat bar you will see a white diamond or pip along that heat bar giving an indicator of where you will overheat. From what I have watched on the streamers to many of them just alpha all the time along with jumping and then wonder why they are overheating.. and YET to see one of them use water in a usefull way to compensate for heat.

I was watching Feeona's stream last night and she was doing a very good job of using jumping to get tactical position on the AI, now again haven't played the game myself so everything I'm saying is based on my opinion of what I'm seeing in the streams. We can debate charts and what Devs said in tweets and chats all day, but until we actually do it in the game ourselves it's just speculation. An no, never saw her jump and attack in the same turn, don't think it possible. However I have seen her jump into the rear arc and get 4 evasion doing so. The AI then attacked a different target rather than turning around to not give her a rear arc attack. So based on this I'm thinking that the it's a viable tactic PvE, but in PvP not so much. Here is the link to her stream if you want to see for yourself.

One thing I will say that I already love about this game from watching the different streams is that there is a large variety of solutions based on tactics. So far I have not seen a "One lance/one mech to rule them all" situation. I really hate games where if you pick this configuration you can beat anything the game throws at you. I want to be able to test my tactical ability by taking a variety of different configurations into the same situation, you know use a medium lance to beat a mission and then turn around and figure out how to beat the same mission with a light lance, etc.

I feel sorry for those people that just getting to the end of the story line mission as fast as possible is all they are concerned with, because those people will be bored to tears with the game in a week or two. Where as I intend to spend many, many days, weeks, months and I hope years finding new ways to beat the computer.

@Wissenschaft you are very welcome kind sir

I have been gaming for 30 years and I have posted more on this forum in 1 week then I have on all the other game forums combined in those 3 decades....smh

How to past the time until Tuesday?
1) Catalog and sort all BT TT sourcebooks as well as dust them off and move them to new position on my desk....done
2) Make a list of all missing FASA sourcebooks in an excel spreadsheet.....done
3) Check online to see how much it will cost to fill in the gaps.....done (cried myself to sleep last night over that one, $150 for a $20 sourcebook in "acceptable condition" shudders)
4) Watch 20 hours of streaming videos and backseat drive and critic......done
5) Randomly post on the forums, starting debates, and watch them decline into shouting matches for entertainment.....done

Damn 2 more days to go, what do I do now? :(

It's not that easy to guess how much free heat you have remaining after the jump.
Like a lot of things (and this is especially true in the mechlab) the game needs to show real numbers, not guesstimate fill-bars.

And have a combat log, as the camera shenanigans often make it impossible to tell what has happened at all.
