I'm noticing in the streams that people don't really utilize jump jets to their full potential.

You can jump behind a mech and fire on the rear torso rather than doing a random angle melee attack. As well as running from a fight because you took damage. Jump to the rear arc and alpha strike the rear torso. lol

Other thing I'm seeing is during the early part of the game Salvage is not important, C-Bills are. IMO I'd rather core an enemy mech and not take any damage before I sit around trying to do call shots to the legs. From what I can see you get just as much salvage if you just destroy every enemy as you do if you waste time trying to do selective strikes.

Personally I am not the biggest fan of JumpJets, but I do admit they have a lot of uses. I don’t like the heat burden or self damage they can inflict.

As for salvage, I think a lot of streamers are focusing on trying to get new mechs. That is less important to me than not sinking my cash into repairing blower up mechs.

From what I have seen so far, the heat burden is low as well as the self damage. I think the hardest part of this for me is going to be forgetting everything I remember from playing TT and expecting it to work the same way in this game.

@Pyske I saw that thread and I still think they are a viable tactic for a quick rear torso kill. I maybe wrong, I'll find out for sure on Tuesday and update this thread with my results.

I think it is reasonably balanced. If you are jumping multiple turns it will cost you, but if its a jump followed by a few turns of no jump it is perfectly reasonable.
I agree; I actually like the balance level they've hit with it. I like that it's powerful, but not spammable without a cost, and I like that it doesn't (directly) interfere with firing.

Sorry to be unclear; I agree with you here, and I hope that bears out in play, as I think it makes the game more interesting.

I also hope it proves not to be too easy, either, against the AI. I'd hate to see even half of mech kills come from rear attacks.

For me also. Have not played TT BT in long time and working on my skills with MWO but very happy to play this soon.

Normal jumping does NOT inflict any damage to your mech. Only when you do a DFA will your mech suffer damage to it's legs.

That is an important part to remember if you want to utilise jumping. If you can deal with the heat from jumping, it is worth it to try for those back shots.

I personally do not like JJ on all varients in the game, but if they were limited to certain varients then it could be viable

The only way you will find JJ's on all mechs in this game is if you install them on them yourself.

The mechs that come stock with JJ's have been designed that way but you have to choose to install JJ's on the rest and suffer the weight problems.

I am aware, but I tend to over heat a lot.

Heat management is something we all have to learn.

And Jumping is not the only way we can overheat.

Jumping over a mech and shooting it in the back seems a completely viable and useful tactic.

Keep in mind that they could have long-ranged backup that might be out of sensor contact range before you jump, that then get to shoot your rear armour.

I'll also be prioritising C-Bills in early missions (except for assassination missions, for those I'll want all the swag I can get my filthy hands on).

I think that getting your first medium or heavier light mech is a huge power jump. Turning your fourth mech from a mobile sensor locker into a sensor locker that can actually bring the pain is a big deal.

But after that point salvage drops in value. Your not gonna get anything better than the Quickdraw or Shadowhawk in the argo story mission, or the centurion you get gifted after. Same with the Jaegermech and Trebuchet during the prison mission. After that, things will probably change, and salvage will be come more important.

One problem I see is that the heat gauge only shows overheat.
It's not that easy to guess how much free heat you have remaining after the jump.
If you are jumping, you can select your jump location, then mouse over a target. As well as showing you all your hit percentages it will also prreview your final heat level.

prior to operation panzyr it is possible to get an all assault mech lance. Im not sure what the upper limits might be prior to doing the prison mission.
