Maybe make sure the "priority" buttons are actually *priority* buttons, and not on/off switches for positions?

If this did happen, I would make all district jobs become maximum priority. After all, there's no point in having pops in specialist jobs if the worker class isn't producing enough to support them.

No authoritarian regime here on earth have managed to control population movement, work or industry in any significant way as you want to do unless it was some kind of slavery.
To hell with 'free will' and 'real life' go play Egalitarian if you want to subject yourself to these kind of things.
i have highlight a very import set of words to make sure you don't miss them.
I get you think this is just a game and so by right you should be able to control everything... no... it is not just a game. It also is a simulation of different types of societies and as such there are limitation to what you can control.
you're shooting yourself in the foot big time here.
If its a simualtion of different types of societies, why does it have to adhere to human societies then? Why can't i have a society that does what i proposed and is perectly fine with it?
Long rant short:
go play Egalitarian if you want to subject yourself to these kind of things.

Don't allow this.

The problem with allowing this level of control is that it in effect forces other people who don't want to micro at this level to do it in order to keep up.

While I would normally agree with this sentiment, I don't think that access to (global!) species rights that ban certain species from certain jobs would be a lot of micro.

Disagree. I think most societies on earth are currently some form of meritocracy.
Weak people aren't football players.
Scientists tend to be smart people.
So, please let us have the specialists work the jobs they are specialized for. Either make the AI better at assigning or give the player control.

Yes this is on point. The old system allowed proper min/maxing by manually moving pops on correct buildigns or straight up queueing robots ontop of queueing up buildings to build.

Maybe you dislike min/maxing or maybe you like to roleplay over min/maxing. Or maybe you just like to play more hands-off and focus on strategic movement on the map instead of clicking too much on the planet overview. The old system allowed you all of this. It was fair for both sides.

The new system however, while being nice to look at made min/maxing an incredibly tedious task. This should not be the case. Why would you design a system which makes the game harder to play for one part of the players who want to min/max above roleplaying?

I don't believe the point of this patch was to make min/maxing and unbearable task. I don't read anywhere from the devs that they want to embrace roleplaying over min/maxing. All the different types of traits for mining/research/unity bonuses are still in the game. Instead, the new system even added a simple trait for Robots which increases all output by 5%! Its even easier if you do not care about min/maxing!

The problems seem easy enough to fix. Allow manual assignment and queueing up what types of robots to build, since the Ai does not assign pops properly. Robots are already demoted as a means of increasing growth in its current form. Nowhere do you see people complaining about Robots being overpowered. Instead they were heavily nerfed and their big strength of min/maxing is no longer possible because of game mechanics.

This is like saying "Don't allow micro in RTS, it will force people who only do attack-move order in the general direction of the enemy to actually micro their troops to stand a fighting chance."

It's just like in real life. People don't always hold a job position they're most effective at. Especially if they have an opportunity to get a better paying job. For example, i might be really good at making burgers, but if i ever get an opportunity to work in game industry, i'd take it, even if i'm not particularly good at it and my games will have tons of bugs after each major update.

Mh. Maybe locking pops to special job is really a bit to micro for most "casuals". But let me decide which jobs have always to be filled. Take the actaul overview and let me set the priority of jobs by pushing them up and down in that tree. They get filled from top to buttom and the ai switches pops based on their stats between them if possible. New Jobs are added (but "grayed out") at the bottom when you start bulding that building/district, so you can adjust it right away and dont have to come back when building is finished.

It's going to become a deviant. For some reason* gestalt empires are harder to police than those made up of individuals.

*It's because they don't get happiness bonus to reduce deviancy pops make.
