Just Got it

Okay well i solved my problem and installed Victoria and Revolutions. Now My main goal is to unite Italy in the grand campaign via one of the Italian powers... Anyone know a good way to do this? Also are there any new patches out. Also Im very new to this game I have pretty much found where everything is and I ahve been basically been playing around with the political stuff like reforms and editing up the budget. Besides that I pretty much have no idea what to do... I have moved armies closer to the borders renamed them a bit to better organize myself since the italian names weren't helping and ive just looked around. What exactly are the first things you need to do to when starting a game.

You really need to get the hang of the economy first. Take a look at Ohgamer's Prussia AAR. It isn't revolutions - it's Victoria with the VIP mod, but a lot of it is still applicable. You also need to keep pop militancy down, so it's best to get your income through tariffs rather than taxes (this is easier to do in revolutions than in Vicky 1.4.)

http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=186672<br />

The main difference between revolutions and Vicky is that capitalists can now build railways for you (before you had to build all your own) and also build factories.

Also, the Vivkywiki and Revolutions Wiki are very good:

Slow and steady wins the race with Victoria. This is an in-game rule as well as advice on learning the game. Of all the games that I have ever played on the computer, this one was the most difficult and my learning is still not over.

But it's worth it, if you're strong enough.

You need to own or control Naples, Parma, Modena, Lucca, Firenze and Roma at the same time for the Creation of Italy event to fire. It's probably easiest to do with Sardinia Piedmont as they get an event giving you extra divisions and setting you at war with the rest of Italy. But it's pretty easy with Two Sicilies too, but then you have to start the war yourself, and you should not wait too long to do it because when Sardinia gets that event you get one that give your divisions very low reliability.

You might want to check out Quirinus308's Sardinia-Piedmont AAR. Its very gameplay oriented and, while Quirinus is a very capable strategist, there are plenty of tips for unification. A more sedate AAR is my own Papal States effort which does mention unification in passing.

First learn to tame your economy, Victoria is not so much about war as it is an economy/empire building game...

Having an in game objective is a good start, if you aim at the unification of Italy you´ll need the ability to sustain a good number of division (standing army plus mobilized reserves) for the time it takes you to conquer de cities that fire the event...Basicaly it is an offensive campaing south an a defensive stance against Austria, at least early in the war...

So first you need to balance the budget, next having a surplus, and only then keep building your army without getting into much debt...because even if you win the war but you are in deep deep deep debt it won´t be fun after...

Okay I started a new game as Sardinia Piedmont which I had played a few times before... I was able to stabilize the budget and get some good income.. Build a lu8mber mill and build up my army a bit. Got my relations with France plus 200 and good relations with Tuscany.. I went to war against Parma Modena The Papal States and Luca.... I took out Parma force easy and was able to hold it against assaults from Modena and Luca until I annexed it. I then went and took out the majority of Modena's forces and Luca and Annexed Luca and Modena... When I was moving in on Modena's last provence they offered me peace giving me Massa in exchange for Modena (which I had already annexed) I wouldnt of accepted it until I saw Papal States army and some extra troops of Modena's that had fled over the border coming right towards my weaker garrison in Modena. I knew that combined army could wipe me out so I made peace with Modena buying me time and giving me a better chance to secure the territories I wanted. I regrouped my forces and held off continuous waves of papal state assaults. Eventually they had barely nothing left and a simple peace was made. I was able to secure Lucca Parma and Massa wipe out the Papal States and what was left of Modenas Military... I got to 114 prestige earning first in that title plus 9th in Industry and 21st In military.. I quickly built up my military eventually getting it to 20th then 19th then 17th then 14th then 13th before the second war of Unification began. I also made trade computer controlled and I was able to research Army Professionalism steam engine and now Im researching something in commerce. I kept the government basically the same and didnt touch it. got revolt risk down and stopped all the crime... Crime was still high for cuts in my budget... My relations with France and Tuscany (had an alliance with tuscany not france for I could not get one and stopped trying) continued to grow. Finally the peace treaty with Modena Ended and my Military big and my prestige at 125 still highest and with good relations with France and a fortified border with Austria I felt confident that I could move on them. I hit them with my forces and I had like 25k to there 16k they had higher morale though but my Leader was better plus I had calvary and dragoons of better quality I guess.. They where losing morale and troops fast until they got reinforcements from themselves and then the Papal States. The battle lasted awhile but my force of 25k was able to hold off all there troops and reinforcements until they fell like to 2000 troops and me to 14k... I took modena and annexed it and held off against some follow up Papal Attacks... I then moved in on the papale states slowly annexing all there territories... (Revolt risk and corruption continued to grow at this time) I was finally able to take all his territories including Rome but it wouldn't allow me to annex I waited and tried everything but it wouldnt allow me to? Any ideas what to do I usually sued for peace then selected annexation but that wasnt there... They wouldnt accept other offers so I was forced to accept Bologna Anconna Rimini and Ferra... I saved before though in case you guys could tell me a way. Anyhow my Nation is huge now I built a Cement Factory and my money is going up.. I plan on getting my Army back together and bigger get industry up along with getting Crime Corruption and revolt risk down

Any Ideas?

I think Ill make an AAR

heheh

Please need Help I could of basically annexed all of central italy then.

ohh yeah one more thing my prestige after the peace was 166 and some corruption was being taken out but I quickly sent my military across the country to lower revolt risk and create order... Im trying to get my money over 750 gold to get another factory but my gold usually stays under or around 700.

I would not recommend learning the ropes of the game with Sardinia-Piedmont as it is something of a challenge more suited to an experienced player. Start off with a country like Brazil or Belgium as they will be easier and give you the breathing room you'll need.

IIRC, Papal states have more than 3 provinces. You can only annex a country once it has 3 or less provinces.
Anyway, you don't need to annex all those countries, you only have to control (ie. either own or just occupy) the key provinces I mentioned in my post above at the same time for the event to happen.

You`ve certanly made progress, S&P is fun but probably not the best choice to learn since you have to pay close atention to most aspects of the game from early on to succed.

But since you are already there...I would say keep the pressure, when you control the necessary provinces the event should fire...you just need to control them during a war...just be sure to be able to handle all fronts without crippling your economy...

One last thing before you go in a conquest rampage after unification, an important concept in Victoria (and in many Paradox games) is your "badboy" rating, a number that represents the perception other nations have of your past behavior, if you have not learnt about it, it would be a good start to look for it and it´s consequences...It`s probably a too long and too off topic discussion to put it here.

ohh.. hmm badboy is probably up there... Anyhow I attacked papal states again they own only Roime now once I am up to it ill annex them.. I have been building a bunch of cement facotries in all my states since there fast and cheap and I wantmore employment and industrialization... Crime is still a problem and so is revolts but when Im not in war revolt risk goes way down again. Im continuing to build my army and manage my finaces.. Ive got alot of random events that improve stuff in my military and finaces and researched stuff in commerce to help too. With extra mulla coming in Im increasing spending for things to meet my growing nation size... Thanks guys for the hep its been much appreciated.

yup heh... Anyhow the crimean war started I chose maybe later... Relations with France are great and I just annexed Rome... Off to take the rest.. My goal is to take all provinces with some of the population Italian. Thats after unification of course... Problem is going to be with Tuscany or Firenze.. They have like over 35k in reserves.. and They are surrounded my nation so When I attack they go off and rampage all my territories that happened in a few other games I played early on. SO I might hit Two Scicilies first
