Getting back to VultureGFF's original point.

I have to say that not only am I impressed with the product that Paradox has availed to us, but also the customer service. They have obviously been listening, have been available for comment on the forums and do all the little attentive stuff that makes them stand out amongst a sea of "dump and run" PC gaming companies.

I had received the following letter (as most of us did) on the Thursday, 12 April 2001 12:23 AM post purchasing EU.

"GRATITUDE !

Dear Europa Universalis player,

We are pleasantly surprised that our membership list has grown so fast
and is approaching 3,000 people. You are many out there who have been
and are still contributing to spreading the popularity of the game and
we wanted to share some news about our plans for it those most
dedicated.

But first let us extend a THANK YOU ALL. The game has a growing
popularity (to those who wonder; yes it is selling well!) which is
spreading from country to country even before our release in the local
territories. A lot can be contributed to the uniqueness in deep local
history portrayed on a global scale in the game but your contribution
has helped us (and still help us) to build EU into what will hopefully
become an established classic.

We are a small company and have limited resources. Your enthusiasm has
provided excellent reviews, awards, and online attention otherwise
impossible. Your AAR´s serve as great advertisements for the game. We
have found local publishing partners and distributors because many of
you have written and spoken very highly of the game to the trade.
Newcomers overwhelmed by the information overload have been helped on
the forums by you guys to help up until we can update the official
materials. In short, you have been great and we are deeply grateful.

Now to the goodies. Will there be a sequel? Will we have add-on packs?
Will we make other historical games based on the game engine? The answer
to all questions is YES!

Many of you are wondering if there will be an EU 2. It is a little early
to tell for sure, but we are certainly discussing internally how it
could be designed, and what is should achieve. We can say that it will
be a very ambitious project because we will set up very high goals.
(That sounds like a quote we made four or five years ago starting work
on EU :)

There are many ways we can expand the current game and improve certain
features. We keep resources tied to do this and will hopefully announce
a project searching beta testers in the summer.

And we are pleased to let you know we have decided to make another game
based on the engine! We have our preliminary design ideas, and
historical period, but again we do not wish to announce as of yet what
exactly the game will portray. What we do want however is to go to the
web forum and participate in our poll of what historical theme YOU would
like to see on a similar scope as EU! The poll will be up later today.

Happy gaming to you all!

At the time I was impressed by this jesture of customer courtesy, but given previous experience of the gaming industry's promo retoric took the content tongue in cheek. Paradox mean what they say ! ... I'm having problems adjusting to this ! :)

Hail Patric ! Hail Paradox !

EU II has always been this way in our minds but we still haven't announced anything for any other games based on the EU engine.

Just wait and see!

I think you guys hit gold with that engine. I'm sure we'll all be here to see what you all come up with in the future.

now now now...

now now, girls lets be a bit more optimistic huh? ;)

lets see what they tell us...EU II will bring some 100 years more of action (I would say almost 150, if the hundred years war is to be complete...it started in the middle of the 14th century ;)),many playable nations around the world...etc.

Currently, in EU1 you can edit the files to play with the nation you want. To add 150 years more with some more events ,generals and kings is not that difficult. In fact I think there are some campaigns out there with the Burgundy kingndom still there, so it cant be that difficult to do.

NOw, they are telling us the schedule is in Christmas. Lets be optimistic, that means in spring'2002 ;). What do they need 10 months for?. For sure, not to add 150 years of story and selectable nations from inside the game.

Let me tell you what I see in EU2-

-Improved interface
-Improved graphics
-Improved AI
-Improved battle resolution system (please, PLEASE NO REALTIME WARHAMMERS ;))
-Improved siege system
-Improved and more detailed technologies
-Improved diplomacy (hehe yes, seems difficult, huh?...dont think so, just think what you can achieve with royal marriages and the childs born from those marriages ;).)
-Improved political/economical simulation
-Improved colonization systems

and a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong etcetera...

The expanded time will allow to, between many other things, be the witness, the cause or the salvation of the last remnants of the Roman empire.......Constantinople!!!!!!!!!!!

Think in EU squared, and that will be EU2. Sounds nice, huh? :)

[edit]And PLEASE SELL IT IN SPAIN!! or you'll have to deal with a very very very angry RAM ;) [/edit]

Yes, I agree!

Despite it basically looking like an expansion of the original... it was a needed one. One that will make EU1 obsolete... if only they made it a giant downloadable patch... instead of a retail product! sigh....

Maybe I'm dumb, but I, for one, will be pleased to pay Paradox for such an sequel. They can't provide us more great games without capital.

If the artists are capable to do it and I think they are I have no problem with improved graphics but I don't really need them.

but please: GIVE ME A MAP WHERE ASIA ISN'T TO DEFORMED. It is ok that due to globe yadda yadda yadda but not the way it currently is.

Hmmmm... that would be awsome... however... looking at the really blurry screen pics that they claim are from EUII (I have doubts) the map looks exactly the same for W. Europe... which means the scale is probably the same, and they are using the same map (minus the terra incognita)!
