The so called Byzantine Empire, was really the remnant of the Roman Empire. Would this mean that if you were able to fend off the Turks, France, Italy, Spain, North Africa, Greece, Asia Minor and other parts of Europe would all be considered your national provinces? :):)

Hehehe. Don't think so. Would be nice though. But even if they only use the size of the "Byzantine Empire" when it was "founded" it would still have a lot of national provinces.

Not spain and france. not sure if the recaptured also a part of spain.

I would think that the Byzantine empire should have national province shields all around the med...Through Spain, north Africa, Italy, France, etc. Not to the full extent of the Roman Empire, just the 'good parts' :D.

Remember that the earliest date in EU II is 1419. By this time, the Byzantines certainly no longer had any practical claim over the Italian peninsula or other western areas and shouldn't even have CBs for it.

Totally agree on this one. Although (in the future) I as Roman (byz) empire will certainly retake Rome and move my captial there.

BTW, wasn't it Justinian who considered moving the capital back but thought Rome was a dump compared to Constantinople?

After Justinian's "inspired" campaigns to retsore the empire....

....Italy in general was an absolute dump, from which it took several centuries to recover.

And he got uppity with his best general.

Well, by 1492 they had disappeared, but...

....before 1200 or so you would have been flayed for not calling the Emperor in Constantinople (to his face) the One True Emperor of Rome (who was that upstart Charles/Karl fellow, and his feeble successors?)

In fact, when Karl the Great was crowned roman emperor in 800 and later the German Kings since Otto I. (933) were crowned automatically shortly after becoming German King, the Eastern Roman Emperor feared, that these "new" ones would claim their throne as well, as Karl wanted a kind of restoration of the (Western) Empire. But nevertheless the fear was without reason, the relationships were quite good.

Additionally before 476, the fall of the Western Empire, there were in fact two Emperors since abou 392, one in Rome, the other one in Constantinople.

In 1419 the Byzantines only cared for survival, so any project of reviving the Empire would be laughable, so I don't think the CB on all over it would be realistic. As much, I'd give the byzantines CB's all over Greece and Anatolia, also on Wallachia and Moldavia.

Why shouldn't he get the CB's? Just because you can't reach the goal doesn't mean you don't want it.

CB's mean realistic claims to lands surrounding you, and are more or less recognized by the citizens of that province and to certain degree also by toher nations. I am sure that Karl V would more or less like take all over the world, but Spain only receives CB's on Spain national provinces. So, the fact that you wish to do something doesn't mean that everybody will acknowledge it.
