Is there a way to limit jump drive or does space fort become obsolete once people start jumping to places?

Also is there a thread or a guide that elaborates on weapon/ship composition and stuff?

There seems to be quite a few choices I can make in terms of which weapons I equip and how many of which ship type I build, and I have no idea what's good or bad. A little help will be appreciated, thank you.

As far as i can see the AI never bothered to jump anywhere so if you play against it your fortresses will still be relevant.

Humans will jump right over them, though. Fact is: the after-jump penalty is nifty and lasts 200 days so if you have a fast-response fleet behind your main line, if you intercept them you will have a good chance of ruining their day. So when jumps are around and you have human opponents, don't stack your fleet on the border, but ideally mid-way between the border fortresses and your worlds.

Weapon loadout is 100% dependable on your enemy defensive loadout. For example, the various Crisis enemies have specific weaknesses that you can (and should) exploit by maximising a certain type of loadout.
