I am playing as the Most Serene Republic of Frisia in the 867 start and I am trying to weaken the Viking raiders. I have no interest in conquering their lands for a lot of reasons. That is why I have decided to ally with the Christian petty kings in Britain and Ireland. Somehow the duke of Jylland is Christian now too and I want to ally with him as well. I don't want them overrun by Vikings who'll start messing with my trade ports, so my goal is to just send my retinue, kill the invaders (i.e. the armies who really want to conquer lands, not the raiders) and go back home.
So I had my children betrothed to ruling dynasties in Britain (Wessex and Mac Ailpin) and Ireland (Cill Dara and Osrange) assuming I could get in on any war they were in. No, it doesn't work that way. I have tested it a few times and rage quit a few times so I've had a nap and am doing better now.
Rage quit moments:
- I betrothed my six year old heir to the six year old daughter of the petty king of Wessex.
Wessex was embroiled in two wars: 1- attacking his vassal of Somerset to revoke his title and 2- defending against Halfdan of Jorvik who wants to take Sussex. Sussex has a count who is vassal to Wessex.
Now because of the betrothal (I think), I can offer to join him in war, but only his war to revoke Somerset shows up. No option to join him in the war against Jorvik.
- Murcia was in a Holy War for Jorvik and though I had no marital bonds with them, I could join their war and I did. I assumed it was because it was a Holy War. Then later, Cill Dara started a Holy War against some Viking right next to him in Ireland and I couldn't join him! As I said, we have marital bonds FTW! I almost killed my mouse
I don't get it and the wiki doesn't clarify it. I have also searched using different search terms but nothing. What exactly are the mechanics here? Has anyone tested this or did I miss something crucial somewhere?
