You can rename the ship/planes/tanks you've researched through the Variant system (if you only change the name it's free, no XP is used). So I think he researched something like "Light Cruiser I" and then rename it to "Tromp-class light cruiser". I can be wrong however and maybe some minor countries still have their own air/tank/naval tree.
