You cannot ally both Mamluks and Ottomans anymore since they are both Great Powers.

Once you've annexed the Arabian peninsula and some part of Africa you can break your alliance with the Mamluks and change your allegiance to the Ottomans. By that point that Mamluks aren't a threat to you anymore, so you can safely throw them under the bus.

[*] You will have to go over 100% over extension to make it on time. I kept myself below 100% until 1710, but I only had 380 provinces. Once I accepted that I had to go over 100%, I stayed between 200% and 225% and completed my Jihad on time.
I finished my achievement with 30 years of time left, never going over 100% OE, and going for expansion and diplo as my first idea groups.

Admittedly, the majority of that game was done in 1.4, so I'm not sure how viable it would be now that you once again get a bunch of AE and coalitions.

Just want to say that I finally finished my Jihad Achievement, in 1758, the night 1.5 came out. I probably could have added way more provinces, but worried that my relations with my PU Nogai whom I fed over 50 provinces (with potentially many more to come) might dip permanently below 190, and indeed I already had -25 Great Power penalty, I decided to just start integrating them outright. Indeed after starting integrating the next month I think there is a -75 penalty of some sort... but anyway, integration finished in 1754 or something, but they still had several non-Sunni provinces. Conversion finally finished in 1758 and I finished with 533 provinces. Not gonna bother continue the game. It was mostly a grind after you become sufficiently powerful.

My OE was essentially between 100% and 200% starting around 1630, usually around 150%. Above 200% rebels are really annoying, just way too many of them. So many that in fact I was losing manpower! So after that I made sure never to exceed 200% again. Once in a while I dip below 100%, but I don't know if it resets any counters.

I don't know if PU feeding is still viable in 1.5, but Nogai my PU had a balanced personality throughout, and bought lots of provinces from me. Importantly, lots of 5 and 6 base tax provinces. I also managed to get a westernized Pattani as vassal (all small countries seem to eventually decide to westernize, so this is something almost guaranteed to happen, i picked up lots of vassals this way), which I them fed all of Aceh and Brunei and the other Malay country when they happen to have a militaristic ruler. In my late game, i.e. after annexing Xi, Zhou, Shun, taking pretty much all Indian provinces, it was quite easy to get small Sunni countries as vassals, such as Iraq, Tripoli (is that right?), and Algiers, since they all felt threatened. So not as much conquest as necessary by the game's end.

As I have mentioned much earlier in this thread, I didn't stop Russia early on. My approach was not going for the Siberian bottleneck; I picked Diplo, Defensive, Expansion and took stab hits to invade and annex Indian and Asian countries. They gave me cores all the way to Korea before I westernized, making sure to pick up the crucial Chinese factions as vassals. My game was far from perfect, as it was my first real EU4 game where I diplo-annex on such a huge scale, so at one point I have 13/8 diplo relations, with some redundant and unnecessary vassals. If I had to do it again, I might pick Explore instead of Expansion as my 3rd idea, or even 2nd instead of Def.

Russia was dealt with much later. I had about 10 colonies that I managed to establish in Siberia East, and essentially fought all the way west. Those Russian 10 year coring times are annoying as hell. Lots of revolts. I ended up spending dip point to culture convert some of my takeover of Russia's Siberian provinces because I hate dealing with revolts.

For my 7th idea, I picked Explore, just for fun. And indeed having an extra colonist makes colonization much easier. The +33% settlers increase also helps a lot. So yeah, Explore is a good idea to pick for this achievement.

Does anyone know if this achievement works if your game was started in v1.4? I am looking at the ledger and it says I have ~560 provinces and all of my provences are sunni yet I have not recieved the achievement.

Just finished Jihad in 1780 or something, wasn't so hard after all, was 100 provinces short in 1720 but things kinda speeded up in the end.
The basic idea with this patch (since most coring times are longer than 10years and you DON'T want to play with 500% OE) is just vassal feeding obviously.
I never got to have any PU but it didn't really matter in the end.

My ideas were (and I strongly believe this is the best course for jihad) : 1) diplomatic 2) exploration 3) defensive 4) expansion 5) administrative - The rest is optional, pick as you like.
The idea with that is because :
1) You REALLY want to cut western colonists from getting these free colonies in the pacific/indian see/indonesia/africa (as well as siberian colonies, but that shouldn't be a problem). Consider colonies as free territory for this achievement, so rush it ! Most of the time I was running 5 6 colonies at once (had 3 colonists) trying to block spain's advance into indian/pacific see. They eventually got there & had to fight them to get my (yeah, they were mine obviously) colonies back. Also got cordoba & granada in the peace deal for a perfect united islam.

2) What you'll strugle with are... diplomats. For the last 200 years most of the time I had 7 8 vassals at the same time and diplomatic travels to asia & such took like half a year, so rather have many available.

3) That diplomatic reputation from expansion is always a good thing with so many vassals. Eventually you'll also get trade in ivory to boost it even more, making annex vassal a mere 5 years time.

4) Apart from defensive which is mandatory (for attrition and 25% moral mostly), you don't really need other military ideas. In the end you'll end up with unlimited manpower so...

I never had to westernize, unlimited manpower allowed me to deal with western units till the end, even though I didn't really try to pick a fight with them, considering all the "free" provinces in Asia. This allowed me of course to keep my vassalisation abilities over these lower developped heathens.
Another good thing to do is to rush Xin, I believe by 1600 there cores will have disapeared from Ming, making it more painfull to core. Instead of Dowing ming, I chose to rush taiwan & get a claim on them.
I dealt with india last, after having dealt with all hordes (expect timurids, golden horde & crimea which I diplo-vassalised in the end).
I believe the only one left in India were a few colonies from netherlands, spain & UK (who managed to get there in the end) and most of vijayanagar.

TL;DR :
1) Rush siberia to cut russia's colonies
2) Rush cape to cut european's colonies
3) Vassals are obviously the key
4) You can keep your muslim tech
5) Rush xin before it disapears
6) Let the europeans deal with their own shit, enough colonies/territory in asia/indonesia/africa to get you the achievement

PW54Y4x.jpg

I still have 7 vassals which have total of ~30 provinces, can't annex them now because of 'annexed vassal' malus though.
Almost unified Islam, only Istanbul is left.

Didn't westernized, being able to make Indian/Chinese tech vassal speeds up expansion and I didn't have to go over 100% OE.
I didn't rushed to hordes to cut off Siberia from Russia, but reached eastern Siberia by island hopping. In the end Russia colonized 10 provinces before I blocked them. (Had to move capital to colonize inland provinces though)
Big coalitions never got created, I was able to manage AE by making temporary allies/expanding here and there.
Picked Aristocracy just for diplomat, and Religious was luxury since I wanted to conquer and convert Rome.

Just completed Jihad too. All done in patch 1.5.1. I got the achievement at 1696. Got a little impatient in the end plus I wanted a pre-1700 finish so I just straight out annexed without a care after 1680. Could have finished quite a couple of years earlier but I didn't realize the achievement requires 100% religious unity, and a couple of unconverted provinces were taking forever to core.

Bonus: I wiped out Ottomans (details below)

V3JqpPD.jpg

X6MNNeN.jpg

My strategy early game was to rush to colonize the area where Funj would have spawned in 1503. I managed to colonize 9/10 provinces by 1503 and Funj didn't spawn. Then I worked my way down east Africa and annexed and cored them all while the coring time were <10 years.

Ottomans DoW on my vassal Syria in 1520s and I managed to beat them off just barely utilizing the terrain of Dulkadir (-3 penalty every single battle). Tanked my manpower to 40% though. In the 1530s I got to mil tech 11, got new units, and saw Ottomans still at mil tech 9 (just completed quantity ideas). I took the opportunity to break RM, DoW, won the war, annexed a Byzantium province, and forced the release of Ramadan and Candar. After that just continuous DoW once truce was up. Diplo-vassalized Ramadan and Candar later. I messed up my base tax calculations but eventually I managed to diplo-vassalize Ottomans in the late 1500s. The first two wars were pretty long and tedious and annexing Byzantium took forever since it was overseas. If I just ignored Ottomans I probably could have gotten the achievement earlier since quite a few cores like Xi disappeared in Asia before I arrived.

Simultaneously in the 1540s, I DoW Georgia, and got Muscovy into the war. Fought all the wars in the Armenian mountains for -3 penalty and just barely beat Muscovy (half my troops were mercs at this point). I sent another army to Siberia, sieged down two provinces, seized a colony, and peaced out by annexing the two provinces, thus blocking Muscovy from any further expansion in Siberia.

Ideas: Exploration - Expansion - Innovative - Diplomatic - Offensive - Quality (aristocratic as 5th idea would have sped up my game play but I was thinking of continuing after completing the achievement).

If I were to attempt this again it would probably get diplomatic first instead of innovative. There was a period in the mid 1500s where I was seriously short of diplomats.

Good job, everybody!
Completing Re-Reconquista achievement gave me confidence that I can attempt Sunset Invasion or Jihad. Though former is way easier, I want to try do Jihad (which is less reliant on luck, right?), too.

Hi everybody, and first of all thank you for this thread, it's helping a lot !! :)

I'm trying to get the achievement, and after a few attempts I finally did a correct start but now I need some advice.

mRuKjrt.jpg

SQGskN0.jpg

1/ First, do you believe it's still doable ?! As you see, I managed to cut moscovy and I'm integrating my vassal Zhou, but I think I have to play more aggressively. Still, I have no idea if it's still possible to conquer asia.

2/ And then I just lose a war against the Ottomans, mostly because I'm 2 tech late comparing to them. So I wanted to know how you guys deal with the Ottomans without westernizing ?!

Thank you so much, and sorry for my english. Anyway, this achievement is amazing, congrats to the successful jihaders around here!!

Number of provinces so far? It's probably still doable. Most of the achievement runs that I see have like a 2 province/year expansion rate after 1650s and so if you could get to about 250 provinces by then you should be fine. I think you should prioritize taking out the nomads and forget about the Indian subcontinent. You're pretty deep into there and the thing is, the vassals you could make there are usually 4-5 provinces max. The steppe hordes are usually twice/triple that size.

You can beat Ottomans without westernizing, but the window of opportunity is limited and you are already past that. See my earlier post on this page. You need to do it while you are ahead tech wise. At this point, I would suggest you leave Ottos alone and try to not get into war with them.

I have created an abomination. Behold, Shiite Najd:

http://imgur.com/rsP0UO3

Not very big, just started the game. I have Hedjaz and Oman as vassals, while to get Yemen as vassals to I have to fight the Timmies because coalition. Fortunately, I have Qara Qoyunlu as allies, and they have Ottomans under PU. I'd start a war right now, but they're in debt.

Wgat is the first thing you do ? I just started my first attempt and i dont know what to do. QQ allied Oman and guaranted Haasa, and Yemen and Heedjaz both allied Adal. Just take endless loans until you can beat them or am i doing something wrong ?

edit: Also the Mamelucks broke their alliance with me after 2 month and turned domineering...
