Japanese elections doesn't trigger after loading a saved game

Hi. I play Japan, campaign 1936, no mods, patch 1.05b, single player.

I made a mistake in Japan's elections of 1937, so i decided to load a previous saved game at the beginning of december (1rst of december of 1937). Then 4th of december of 1937 comes and japanese elections doesn't trigger

I played until 1938 but it continued without triggering. Very frustating because i cannot declare war to China without electing right in 1937 elections.

So i think there is a problem here. I don't know if this has been posted yet, so i beg your pardon if it has been.

I tried to quit the game, relaunch HoI and load again, but without result.

Any idea?

This is a known bug (along with several other nations elections, notably the UK). Simply edit the save game (change the Head of Government in order to change the nations goverment type).

Most likely this bug is similar to many of the already fixed ones, like the "Industry/Electronics tech not working on reload". I simply think this is a matter of some variable concerning the election not being saved properly. I will try to run some tests on this to verify.

ahh soo ...soo solly but???

Guys ..I have checked every CVS, txt and AI file in the original )not patched) HoI directories and with patch 5(not b) installed.

Un like the UK and USA events...I can find no reference to any election event happening to Japan...

Not saying it isn't there...just I can't find it.

Was it was the progamming teams plan to have the war Jap-Chi underway in Jan 1936? (which is cool..just switch the goverment automaticly in 1937.)
I am thinking this as... recreating the Rus-Jap war was too difficult also and negated)

There should be a 1937 event called "The Sugiyam Incident" which compells to Jap government to either go to war with China or go into civil war (with their own army).

(Sugiyama was the general who sent so many reinforcing troops that a border incident turned into a war.)

!!! anyway...Please correct me if I am wrong...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some extra thoughts on Japan (USA files involved also)

event "EVT_4100_NAME;The Nanking Massacre" is programmed as an automatic event.

PERHAPS it should not be...Japan lost control of the troops who took this area and it could and should have been prevented.
I recommend a random event.

and....

"EVT_3801_NAME The USA Assassinates Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto

.... this was an adhoc mission based on good intellegince that worked. But the risk of failure was very high...the USA went for long periods of time not able to decifer any Japan radio messages. In WWII...Flying 1500 miles to intercept one airplane and succeeding... was as much luck as skill.
(no slight on the men who pulled it off but they were lucky)

I recommend this also as a randon event outcome.

and while I'm on a soapbox...

"EVT_3800_NAME USA Oil Embargo....There was not supposed to be an oil embargo. The USA passed legislation making it more difficult for Japan to get oil (they now needed an export permit each delivery) but some bureaucrat took it on his own to block evry single permit making it a defacto embargo.

I recommend this also as a random event outcome.

Budgie, in 1.05 there was a bug related with japanese elections in 1937. This event didn't trigger most of the times under that patch but in 1.05b it was fixed, so it would be better if you install this patch.
Under 1.05b there are elections and you have to vote "right" in order to declare war to China.

The problem i expose in this thread is very simple: if you load a previous game, previous to the "japanese election event" in 1937, the event doesn't trigger again. Something happens since you save the game till you load the game again. The event get loss in the saving process.

Vulture, shouldn't it be considered a bug?. Seems that there are other events related with other countries that don't get saved correctly like Madviking has exposed above.

This is a nasty one :(

There is actually a rather easy way to fix this bug if you are forced to save the game before the 1937 election in SP, or if you are playing an MP game. Simply save the game and edit the save game file, changing the Head of Government to the one you get if you elect right (sorry, I dont know the name, it's listed in the minister file for Japan though). When you reload, you have the right government. It is a bit of a hassle having to do this in MP though, since everybody else has to wait for it and you must rehost the game, but it usually takes only a few minutes.

It would of course be best if this bug was fixed to 1.06 :).
One way to fix it would be to simply have the Jap election as an event, just like the USA elections (I made an event for this and it works fine). This way you would get the election on the same day each time (unless you make it random=yes), but I do not find this a problem. Could do the same thing for the UK election as well.

As far as I can tell in the Japanese elections has always been random.

Sometimes March 37, sometimes Nov 37, sometimes in between, and some times in early 38.

I don't think this should be a fixed date occurance, as a random date makes the game much more enjoyable.

Re: Japan Election Problem

Thanks guys....problem is...my buddy and I had to pull 1.05b off our machines....

The problem was...it would not allow us to play a Local Area Network game.

We tested it numberous times.

version 1:00 and 1:05 are fine but 1:05 b kept coming up no games found.

Yes we both checked to ensure that we were both running 1:05b and we tried starting new games and we did reboots...no luck...

So we live with 1:05 until 1:06 arrives.

Unless someone else has a solution to this.

We didn't report it as LAN connections are not too common and subject to a host of "user<---read idiot) related reasons for why two machines won't connect.

But in this case...we are pretty sure it is the patch version.

If someone could post the txt on how they set up the Japan election event I would be gratefull.

Regarding a random or fixed date for Jap election:
Currently, the USA has fixed election dates (first week of November). I do not think that this in any way makes the game less enjoyable. Also, there are a many important events that always occur on the same date (Anschluss, Treaty of Munich, war with Poland etc). Even with fixed dates for these events, I still find the game highly enjoyable.

Even with events, it is still possible to make the Jap election random, even when making it happen via the Jap events file.

I wouldn't mind events for Japan's elections but the problem is we would need events with no new text for them to go in an official patch.
