I've put together a series of events that escalate American involvement in the Sino-Japanese War and ratchets up the tension in the Pacific. In so doing, I've made an event that has the Japanese declare war on the U.S. and the Phillipines. The events work fine but on the first testing I've got the war I wanted but the Japanese aren't invading the Phillipines or the Dutch East Indies as they usually do (I've played several games as the USA already with DD/Arma/1.2 and the Japanese have always swept through these islands).

Is the Japanese AI not working correctly because I forced it into war with the US rather than waiting for the AI to declare war itself? If so, how do I get the correct AI to work with my events?

thanx in advance

You should put into one of the earlier events command to change the AI file. If you haven't done that, the AI Japan will just go to war with US but with the units busy in China and not prepared for any offensive in the Pacific.

So pick some event that will happen before the DoW and make it switch the AI file so that Japan will start preparing for war properly.

Believe it or not, with all the events I've scripted I've never messed around with switching AI files. Should I just change the AI or the flags as well? If I add this...

command = { type = local_clrflag which = JAPInvadePHI }
command = { type = local_clrflag which = JAPInvadeNEI }
command = { type = local_clrflag which = JAPInvadeNEPacific }
command = { type = local_clrflag which = JAPInvadeNewGuinea }
command = { type = local_setflag which = JAPStandardPacific }
command = { type = ai which = "switch/JAP_Naval_Pacific.ai" }

to an event that fires before the DoW, will that work?

And once Japan is at war, with the AI change on its own? I only ask this because I'm in the middle of a game I was playing while testing the events and don't really want to go back 5 months if I don't have to :D haha

I'd first change it to invading Philippines first. But still that should work, I think. And yes, once in a war those ai events will change the AI files accordingly depending on how the war is going on. So that should do it.

Ok, so say I just put this...

command = { type = local_setflag which = JAPInvadePHI }
command = { type = ai which = "switch/JAP_Naval_Pacific.ai" }

This would mean upon DoW, the Japanese would attempt to invade the Phillipines first, then as time goes on and depending upon progress in the Phillipines, the Japanese AI would move on to its other AI files?

Hmm I don't have vanilla installed at the moment so I can't check those. I really should install it, though. I'm not sure if those two AI files are exclusive or not. In any case, once Japanese AI is railroaded to do the proper Philippines invasions, it should proceed to conquer Dutch East Indies and prepare for proper Pacific war on its own.
