At Myth
I eventually did, but for a while I was pretty freaked out about losing a corp. Luckily I didn't.

At imperator667
I do have artillery in all of the new divisions, but old ones still haven't been outfitted and probably won't ever be. Plus I found out in an earlier game that tanks inhale supplies, and when there aren't that many supplies to begin with, they become more of a liability than a help.

Relief Arrives!

Japanese Victorious in Maoming!
3-23-19371100ReliefBattlealmostwon.jpg

It took a while, but finally, the image I had been waiting for came. (the image below this one I mean.)

3-24-19370100Reliefbattlewon.jpg

Victory! Finally my troops had a supply line to a large port and they had an area to retreat to if need be. It was tense, but things eventually went my way. Thanks a bunch to my CAG.

Attack North
3-25-19370400Attacktowardsport.jpg

3-26-19371000Attackwon.jpg

A two pronged attack hits Yangjiang and the defenders are quickly overwhelmed. The overall objective is the port slightly to the north.

Weak Lines
3-31-19370100CliqueHQattack.jpg

Again, as happened to 2nd corp, the AI has found the weak point in my lines and is attacking the areas my HQ divisions are defending. Divisions from the main attack are having to be recalled to help defend the area.

Repelled
4-12-19372000CliqueSituation.jpg

The attack are repelled as soon as an infantry division arrives, but a hole is left in the lines.

Tragedy!
4-19-19370200Cliquepenetration.jpg

And the hole is quickly filled in by Clique troops. Supplies are captured, and the port is no longer under our control, for a few days.

4-6-1937Cliqueattackrepulsed.jpg

The Clique troops are quickly defeated and the port is open once again.

The Prize!
4-7-19370900AttackonGuangzhou.jpg

The prize of the entire southern campaign is in sight. Guangzhou, a lvl 10 port, is about to be captured for imperial use. The supplies it will bring will be much needed for the eventual conquering of China.

DarkOli
Thanks, I'm not to good at doing ARRs but I think I'm doing an okay job at telling my progress.

Northern Assault

Pointless Clique Counterattacks!
5-19-193716003rdpointlessattack.jpg

This is the third one that has ended in disaster for the Clique! In the same province! Stubborn aren't they?

And when everything seems safe....
6-11-19371500Sneakattack.jpg

SNEAK ATTACK! I totally knew there was a land connection there...totally.

But everything's okay!
6-13-19371800fixingthesneakattack.jpg

My sneak attack!

And just to make sure they don't do that again
6-20-19370500Countersneakattack.jpg

We will continue the attack!

1st Invasion Corp is doing well
6-23-193716001stInvasioncorpsexpans.jpg

As you can see they have expanded pretty darn far.

And finally....The northern attack!
7-28-19372200NorthernAttackbegins.jpg

Another corp finally joined the front line in the north, and enough troops are there to guarantee a successful attack along the coast.

p.s. Those are the divisions advancing along the coast in hopes of linking with the first beachhead.

Beiping is under attack!
8-22-19370600Beipingundersiege.jpg

Sweet, the capital of that little country right there is about to be mine! More IC and leadership and manpower! Even if it is just a little.

Link up!
10-8-19370100northernattack.jpg

Finally the first beachhead is linked to the main front! The cavalry in the north did great!
cavalryassault.jpg

Woohoo! I love cavalry don't you?

Sorry about the lack of battle pics. Almost every battle started in the 90% range and I just didn't want to capture every single one.

Nice AAR. I too love Japan AARs.

One question though, why aren't you trying to encircle a bit more?

Attacking Bao'an before Jiangmen, and on the northern front heading for the port first to isolate the infantry and cavalry divisions on the coast and then destroy them wouldn't have slowed you down by much, and every division you destroy is a division you won't ever see again.

I'll explain the lack of updates at the end of this one.

Myth
Thanks, I thought for a while that you were the only one reading this! :p

N35t0r
I don't really know. I guess because I always think of encirclements as needing tanks. I know they don't, but I just usually do tank encirclements, and since I can't support tanks on the mainland, I'm not trying for encirclements. Truthfully the resistance has been negligible expect where communist China is concerned.

Sentinal 6
Thanks have a great day, too.

Tayran
Sorry for the lack of updates. :(

Expansion FTW!

Attacking towards the 2nd Beachhead
2-8-193721002ndLinkup.jpg

Our offensive to relieve the 2nd beachhead has begun. The goal, a narrow corridor connecting the 1st and second beachheads. The lack of progress at first is upsetting, but a breakthrough is achieved and we march on south.

Connecting the beaches
2-22-1937000Battletolinkup.jpg

At the battle of Yancheng forces marching south finally met up with the forces marching north, and a connection was created.

Linked
3-2-19370700Linkup.jpg

The corridor is narrow, but nevertheless a connection is there.

The Division that took on a Nation.
4-24-19371700Divisionthatkilledanat.jpg

I broke away from my normal doctrine of never leaving a gap in my lines to send a lone cavalry division on an attack into Xibei. I expected them to get stopped, or even encircled, but they took on and brought an entire nation to is knees. Pretty cool actually.

5-1-19370200XibeiSurrender.jpg

Communist China
4-27-19371400CommiChinainComintern.jpg

However, while that division was advancing, a disturbing diplomatic update. Communist China joined the Comintern, bringing up the possibility of bringing the Ruskies into the war. Commie China needed to be dealt with quickly.

Another Nation Falls
12-5-1937000ShanxiSurrendersopenter.jpg

I forgot the name of this nation. But they fell once the northern attack was renewed. As you can see this left a lot of open ground to defend, and Communist China was in the perfect spot to expand. Instead of rushing forward to defensive positions, I took a more controlled advance, allowing Commie China to take some of the land and spread out before engaging them.

Expanding Connections
10-11-19371900expandinglink.jpg

While this is happening other units start focusing on expanding the narrow connections with the beachheads. Supplies are starting to become a problem. As such all new units (I have 2 more corps, or 10 divisions, whichever way you want to think of it) are being held on the Home Islands until the new ports are created and supplies are being brought to all units consistently.

Enjoy the Little Things
1-16-19380100Enjoythelittlethings.jpg

Such as one division that won't be bothering me anymore.

The Commie Strikes Again!
4-17-19381500CommunistCounterattack.jpg

Darn Communists and their experienced troops!

And that brings us into 1938!

Okay so that's the end of this update. Now for my boring life story and excuses for lack of updates, which you don't have to read if you don't want to.

I haven't really been able to play any games all that much, just check the forums every once in a while for multiple reasons. I expected to have more time but Full-time College and a recent promotion at work have me with almost no free time. As such, the time I do get is usually put into talking/hanging out with my high school friends so that we can keep in touch. So I haven't even played past 1938. But hopefully I will start getting more time as I'm getting more used to college.

I just noticed something weird in that battle situation screen.

Why is there a small picture of a rubik's cube next to the more understandable icons such as bombardment icon, weather icon, fortification bonus etc?

What does rubik's cube represent in HoI3? :p

(I can solve a rubik's cube btw, I learned myself how to do it through a youtube video :D)

Quick check in at school.

The rubik's cube is the difficulty icon. I'm playing on Hard and therefore, my units fight worse.

I'm going to try and play more tonight.

Okay so I managed to play a few more months last night, and get it all ready for posting before I fell asleep. So now for another post! Yay!

Broad Front Policy

Major fighting against the Communists.
1938-5-161400AttackingtheCommie.jpg

I want to knock out the Communists soon since they are technically in the Comintern, and I don't want to risk the USSR invading. So attacks are directed against the Communists first.

Commie Counterattack
1938-5-192100CommiCounterattack.jpg

However, the Communists have quite a few troops concentrated in a local area, so they are able to tactically outnumber my troops and force my troops to stop or retreat in some areas.

Failed Attack
1938-5-240400FailedAttack.jpg

And just to show that not all of my attacks are successes, here is a screen of one of my stupider moments. I attacked 2 divisions with one, they were dug in, and the terrain wasn't much helping either. Even with reinforcements the attack failed.

Communists attack my gains
1938-5-280400CommieCounterattack.jpg

We just gained this province when Communist troops counterattacked.

It gets worse
1938-6-11100Commiewin.jpg

I managed to get another division into that province after my first division was defeated. But they soon found themselves outmatched 3 to 1 against more experienced troops who had just achieved a successful attack.

Knee jerk reactions
1938-6-110000Commieadvance.jpg

Initial reactions to the Communist attack was to pull back and try and contain them. Then I remembered my lessons from an earlier Germany game.

German Lessons
1938-6-120000Japanesecounter.jpg

After I remembered that encirclements are very useful, I changed the organized retreat into a counterattack, with the main effort at cutting off the Communist attack.

Encirclement
1938-6-242300Almostencircled.jpg

An encirclement is achieved, but soon would be lost as more Communists rush to the aid of their beleaguered friends.

Germany...
1938-6-281500Germanymobilizing.jpg

They must be scared of all my warmongering.... ;) Just don't tell Poland...

Broad Advance Policy
1938-6-60400Broadattack.jpg

Here is an example of my broad front/attack policy in action.

Finally!
1938-7-2Almostencircled.jpg

Finally it appears that the division that attacked my lines has been successfully encircled, with no hope of relief.
