Japan was country that was affraid of everything foreign. Beyond it's island was there nothing except barbarians, canibals and even worse... Chinese people!

But one day, one day would change history forever! Not even Daniels himself could restore the timeline after that day! A day some shall remember as the day of the great intuition, while others shall remember it as the day of the jumping rabbit... let me explain:

The emperor was walking around his palace. He was thinking "to the south do we have canibals and barbarians living on those islands! Eating over spiced food to hide their inability to even cook an egg! To the west do we have merciless mongols who own more horses then we have ants! And then do we have the unspeakable! the unbearable! the unimaginable! China! How could we bear even being one second on the same continent as them? We could not! Even on those islands do they have traders! Some of those islands even bake their fish! How barbaric can you be!"

He continued to think "and to the east is their nothing then sea... enless sea... hopeless sea... sea, sea and even more sea! Leading to nothing! Being filled with nothing!" then did something suddenly happen! A sudden momment of enlightement! Of the greatest intuition!

"That sea, that sea... it can't be endless! Nothing is endless! Their has to be balance! Their has to be land! Land as big as the sea!"

So was the idea of a new world created! From then on would that be the goal of Japan! The emperor his child and all their child would be raised with one central idea, one idea that shall dominate Japan from now on: we have to find and life one a new world, or we shall forever be stuck next to the unimaginable cruel! the unbearable! the unspeakable reality! China!

The above is the "official" version that entered japanese history books. But some people believe that the idea of a new world was instead created by a rabbit that jumped rather hard on the emperor his head(from the roof of his palace).

The emperor sended 10 men to make sure that there was no rabbit on his roof. No rabbit was found but a very fat cat was found sitting next to a pile of bones! 8 men of the search party reported that no rabbit was found. Thought 2 members of the search party regretably got a heart attack on the roof of imperial palace, after they wondered whatever those bones where from a rabbit. Some fools claim that the arrows the imperial guard shoot in their heart increased the chance of a heart failure! But the wise emperor refused to listen to that type of wild conspiracy theories!

To organize this type of gigantic exploration mission needed the emperor a more robust and better organized government. That is why he hired one of the smartest and energetic govermental advisors of asia.

The extreme protectionistic and xenophobic policies of japan had made it's population affraid of the outside world. The emperor decided to use quite all his political capital to change this. In his famous speech said he "Not all foreigners are canibalistic barbarian squirrel torturing chinese freaks! Some are just canibalistic barbarian squirrel torturing korean freaks!". A sign of relief could be heard throught the audience! The population was still too affraid to start colonizing, but at least where they no longer as affraid of it as in the past.

The road ahead was extreme hard. The emperor, the emperor his childeren and their childeren needed to convert the most isolationistic nation on earth in a nation of colonists and explorers. At least was Japan not a poor country and had the emperors a lot of fund to realize their dream!

"Either shall we be remembered as the biggest heroes or the biggest fools! Shall we do all we can to help the emperor and become the biggest heroes? Or shall we waste our time talking about jumping rabbits and become the biggest fools? I say we become HEROES! " Chokei Matsudaira govermental advisor of the emperor

Kolpo,

There may be no more fascinating country to play than Japan!

In beta-testing, Japan was one of my favorite countries to play.

I look forward to seeing how you conduct your tale!

It's interesting to see so many people having the idea of colonising America as a rather unique land, but I can totally understand the idea behind it. A great start, but maybe as a request could you resize the pictures so they fit the screen? Right now they simply are too large.

The emperor died too early and a regency council had to take over the government. Those where dangerous times, but lucky enough had japan great stability and did no one revolt. Everyone knew that they would soon again have the pleasure of being ruled by an all wise emperor! A few confused fools later said "Then we had the chance! Why oh why did we do nothing!". The later emperor didn't supress those ideas, he even allowed those people to continue to spread their ideas on the bottom of the deep sea! Where they where send by the imperial guard! Free of charge!

The emperor can only imagine the type of blessings those people would be wishing him after they arrived at their little sea paradise.

A new emperor arrived in the country. He was a skilled diplomat and he knew how to win a battle. Thought his view of administartion was to burn all papers at the end of each month! Yet would this be the emperor that shall never be forgotten, he would be the one that truelly started to transform old Japan into new Japan.

A bunch of brainless fools thought that they should get power just because they had money. Never would the emperor allow this kind of cruelty, how could the people ever bear being ruled by someone who isn't related to the emperor?

But in his endless mercy and wisdom made the emperor a compromiss, those rebels would be given some power: they could choice between being feed to sharks or being thrown of a rock. Endless was the luck of those who could die in name of the emperor! They could barely hide their enthusiasm while they where screaming and doing wild dances from pure joy!

The great work of our governmental advisor paid off. Chokei Matsudaira had completely reorganized the government. From now on, was it capable of embrancing very big projects and ideas. Chokei argued that we couldn't explore the new world before we had people who where willing to do so.

A massive campaign to convince people to become explorers and colonists started. A whole new colonial administration was created. With a huge campaign departement that started the "get away from china! say YES to the new world!" campaign. While the response was not overwhelming, was it enough to get one group of explorers/colonists each year.

After some brave people answered the emperor his call was the colonial adminstartion destroyed and was a new administtation "for the exploration of the new china free world!" created. Endless was the joy of the population after they saw that the colonial adminstration was completely destroyed after only a few year! They remembered having the great luck of paying special "colonial administartion creation" taxes and now after only a few years was all that tax money wasted! No person is so lucky as the one who's money get's used to build and then destroy the biggest building in the history of Japan! All imperial guard vacations where canceled, just to make sure the population wouldn't do anything stupid in it's euforia and the spontanious "we love the emperor" parades.

The new world administration also had an explorer training departement. One explorer was trained there. He knew the basics(like the difference between land and sea) thought he wasn't an expert. Murakami Li was his name! He would change history forever!

He boarded one caravel ship, to sail into the gigantic ocean of the east.

Now that we had an explorer was the "new world" administration no longer needed. The population watched while it was completely destroyed after which the colonial administration was completely rebuild. Again had the population the blessing of paying "colonial administartion creation" taxes! Some could barely hide their enthusiasm.

Our explorer begun his journey, it appeared that the sea was big, very big. Sea after sea was discovered with no land near. The crew could barely control their emotion of thanks towards their captain and the emperor, for sending them towards the endless sea...

But just when even Murakami Li started to doubt the existance of a new continent, was a new coast spotted! The emperor wasn't a fool! He was right! And even if it was caused by a jumping rabbit was that rabbit divine! They all yelled "Long live the emperor! Long live Muralami Li!" when the ship engineer came back with a report...

The ship was heavily damaged, it could never get home in one piece. But captain Murakami Li said "We discovered the new world! We shall use our last days to explore it more! Let's die like great men! Let's die like Japanese! Let's die like heroes!"

The new continent appeared to be very big and even inhabited by empires! Strantegly enough was no horse spotted in those gigantic empires! How could they defend their lands without a noble horse? Where the horses hidden in those big temples?

Thought not all land was taken by those empires, there was also mostly empty land. Only a few relative friendly natives lived in those lands. again did they a very good job of hiding their horses. Given the size of their tents would it be ponies, those tents where too small to hide horses in!

The ship broke, the heroes of japan died an honorable death! Strangely was captain Murakami Li capable of swimming back to Japan! This clearly proves that the emperor IS divine! The new continent was just as big and just as rich as the emperor once imagined. This was the begin of a new era, an era of colonization! an era of going into the unknow!

Thought one thing woried the all wise emperor: those natives must be experts in hiding, they even build tents and temples to hide their horses!

One of the lands Murakami Li discovered was the Arica region, filled with a metal that coudl'nt be found in Japan, copper! 100 japanese men where send towards Arica, to build a colony for the glory of Japan!

The creation of a the colony was a success! It even got an habor that allowed ships to travel to the new world and back without being destroyed. Losing a ship each time you go to the new world is a rather expensive way to travel.

To better explore those new lands was a conquisator needed. Because of the was the colonial admistration AGAIN destroyed and was the new world administration again rebuild.

Murakami Li was ordened to find a direct road to our new colony, his ship sunk before he reached the colony! The pacific was big, waaay too big! Again proved Murakami Li to be a divine swimmer who got back to japan.

A conquisator and a second explorer where hired. As soon as the nation stabalized was the new world administartion destroyed and the colonial administration rebuild. Some workers complained about depression, they said that there work felt meaningless. How they could think that was beyond the emperor, maybe could he cheer them up by giving them again the joy of rebuilding the new world administration? No, we have enough explorer and conquisators now!

Because our last mission to sail directly to our new colony was a failure, decided the emeporor to try it again but this time with 1000 calvalry and our best conquisator on the ship. Our new explorer was captain of the cog and succesfull transported the conquisator and his 1000 cavalry to the new world. Now had we a colony to repair his ship, the time of kamikazee exploration was mostly over.

Our colony expanded and our conquisator was bussy discovering new lands. Japan was no longer just an empire, it was an intercontinental empire!

Very interesting. Early exploration and seeing the effects of switching back and forth on national ideas. Nice work gaining the colonies.

And your advisors look decidedly western. ;)

One request - you might want to consider less updates per day. If you get too far ahead, you might not get the readership you desire. There are only so many AARs a person can read and often times readers will give up if they don't think they can keep up with the update pace. Just a thought. :)

The constant changing of goals between colonial goals and exploring the new world had deeply destabilized Japan. Some people didn’t enjoy having to pay taxes for buildings who get quite constantly destroyed end rebuild. The emperor understood that these challenging times had confused some people; they no longer understood that everything the emperor does is always good for both Japan and its population. The emperor can’t be wrong, just like the sun can’t stop shining! Clouds and nights could let it appear that it stops shining, but it actually never does!

Those poor sad beings where so confused! So unhappy! It was time for the emperor to show compassion! It was time to send a few cavalry divisions to kill them all! If they had still some sense then would they have committed harakiri the moment a bad thought about the emperor entered their mind. It was with great pain in his heart that the endless compassionated and wise emperor decided they need to be cut in pieces.

After the emperor got news that his troops had defeated the rebels, decided he to celebrate that victory together with the fat cat on his roof. He had become rather fond of her, especially in combination with his finest rice and spices from Brunei!

The Inca’s send an envoy, in a letter invited they the Japanese emperor to come to their capital an meet with them. They apparently trained a translator who spook both Inca language (the emperor doesn’t know the name of their language) and Japanese. But the trip towards the new world was way too long and way too risky for the emperor. Endless would the grief of the population be if the emperor his ship would sink. Thought there was a little island between Japan and its colony, it’s called Guam.

The inhabitants of Guam were rather aggressive. A small cavalry division was deployed to help them move to their new location, the bottom of the Pacific Ocean! After that were a colony and a harbour successful build. From now on was it possible to repair ships that travel between the Japan and the colony, something that was absolutely needed in this gigantic and extreme wild ocean.

The emperor met with the Inca king in the Inca capital, the emperor tried to find their hidden horses but he wasn’t allowed to freely look around. They insulted the emperor by giving him warm and baked fish! The Inca king then further insulted the emperor by using wild arm gestures while talking; he even dared to show facial emotions while talking! Yes I’m not kidding he really did that!

The emperor then asked the Inca king a very reasonable question “Why are you acting like a spastic hyper active monkey?”. The unreasonable emperor became insulted by this fair question and replied “Because I don’t want to be a cold emotionless statue that is even too lazy to cook its own fish!”. The emperor walked furious away and yelled at the king “I have fought bigger monkeys then you! I have hunted braver pigs then your soldiers! Some day shall you regret your insults! Some day you shall!”

The emperor ordered the central island of Japan to start training tons of cavalry. No monkey can insult the emperor and get away with it! None!

At the same time acquired the emperor enough political capital to make his nation less protectionist and xenophobic. In his legendary speech said he “Japanese who live in the colony are just as Japanese as those on the islands! They should be allowed to trade and produce goods just like we do! At least if they follow the 105389 import/export regulations.”

Our current colony wasn’t capable of supporting the kind of force we would need to fight the Inca’s. Because of this was the colony of Atacame created. A division of 6000 cavalry boarded ships and went to Guam. In Guam were the ships repaired and was the needed maintenance done. After set the ships sail to the colonies! The ships never arrived! The whole Japanese fleet and 6000 cavalry were lost! Japan lost more then 300 ducats by that grave accident. The only light in this hopeless time were the men and sailors who got the incredible honour of drowning for their emperor!

But the emperor decides that this small setback would not stop his dream of a colonial empire! It would not prevent the Inca’s from getting what they deserve! New cogs where build and the lost cavalry was replaced! All where shipped to Guam and then to the colonies! This time they arrived in the colonies! Inca scum you better watch out!

maybe as a request could you resize the pictures so they fit the screen? Right now they simply are too large.

I'm very ineterested in how Japan progresses here.

May I second CSK's request that you downsize the screenshots. About half the current size would make better viewing.

Thanks and good luck Kolpo
