I was playing a normal game as China in 1936, but when Japan did the Marco Polo Bridge Incident and I gave in, Japan still justified.

Is this a bug?

If you push them off the mainland you can get a truce where you keep everything in China and Korea becomes free

No, it is intended.

They need something like 200 days to finish justifying so you get more time to prepare for war in exchange for the lost territory. Sometimes it might be worth it.

Not playing China so i'm not quite sure but you might get more warlords in and can field more troops this way can't you?

Correct. I'd readily disagree that it's "not really" ever worth it. Sometimes it's ok to do what seems inefficient if in the end it puts you in a better position. It's definitely situational, and ideally you won't need to delay, but sometimes that extra time is invaluable particularly if you haven't played well or that you aren't ready for the war (which is more the case when you opt to integrate the warlords rather than created the United Front). Those extra 7 months can equal a lot of extra divisions for China.

If Japan is AI, a Player-controlled China should be able to fight them sucessfully for these 7 months.
Player-controlled Japan is far more dangerous, so using these 7 monts for raising troops might be a good idea.

Giving in might be needed if you end up at war with GXC and you’re taking too long. The subjugate the warlords tree is fairly rng on who will accept submission, so you may get 0 warlords or all 5 submitting
