I don't see any gaijin samurai in the story... even the emperor of Korea is Japanese, remember?

Oooooooh! Japanese Conquest of Korea! Silly Kamchatkians-don't know when a blessing hits them!![]()
Oregon Trail is now updated for the iPhone and iPad, so our family owns both actually. It is a very fun game, though I haven't seen that exercise thing yet!![]()
A less exciting update, but laying the groundwork for some fun in the future.
And yes, Oregon Trail on the Apple IIe was awesome! I never got all the way to the end, but I got close. Years later, I was able to visit my approximate endpoint in real life. It was interesting to do so.
This has been a fun read so far.
Dotted.
I'm looking forward to seeing Japanese Mexico, once those explorers run out of sea to drown in.![]()
Those pesky Kamchatkans. I always place a single regiment or more on any colony just to avoid that.
Yes, you're taking on Korea next! The first major step in the creation of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere!
Lol, Oregon Trail, what a classic. I always thought the only way to die was from dysentery. I personally preferred Yukon Trail because it was closer to home and you could choose to take a box of kittens up north with you.![]()
Finally, it's time for war with your oldest rival! I hope you can vassalize them in one go (I don't think so though).
Yeah, me too. Unlike EU3, after the natives attack their population stays the same, meaning as long as you have a regiment there (and don't attack the natives yourself) you will still get the native base tax/manpower bonus.
Starting to get missions to conquer Korea?
This reminds me to state that the Zero-width space needs to be more common on the Internet.
:does some quick math::)
Event pictures fail
Gaijin samurai? Really?
We need manga now!

I think he refers to the picture to the event "Unruly Samurai". The men are clearly westerners, and hence "gaijin".
My other favorite bizarre event text in the last update is when they say they want to explore the New World to find a "new route to India". Uh, pretty sure unless there's a portal, warp hole, or other teleportation device, the quickest way to India is just, you know, to go west.
I drove to Independence from Manhattan, KS to do some archival work -- I saw a lot of highway signs advertising various landmarks, but was not able to stop, sadly.
I visited the Whitman mission while on a visit to my girlfriend back in our long-distance days. I didn't even make the Oregon trail connection until we were reading the signs. And I never did figure out to what extent the history was whitewashed, as is done at the California missions (I'm so grateful to the elementary school teacher who had us read Island of the Blue Dolphin and at least alluded to the fact that the mission system wasn't so great from the native point of view).
Well, PDS haven't though of Japan taking part in these kind of events (nor would it make any historical sense to sail east from Japan, w/o 21st century knowledge, that there are lands ripe for taking in the east.My other favorite bizarre event text in the last update is when they say they want to explore the New World to find a "new route to India". Surely your expeditions are looking for the Venetians! And by the time you've finally discovered America and the error of your ways the natives will have become 'East Venetians'![]()
Maybe it's the other way round: parallel-universe Uesugi think that "India" means North America (like the conquistadors etc. calling Native Americans "Indians")... and then discover the REAL India and don't realise it's not North America... etc.
Show those Kamchatkaniks who is boss!
Well, at least the Merchant arranges an expedition-event states that he wants "to explore the uncharted waters to the west" in order to find a sea route to India. Maybe he just have some really old maps, and haven't realised you already know the western waterway to India.

Edit: Yes, I'm completely on an off-topic trail, and I'll stop, but mentioning this reminded me I had meant to ask some questions about the events there. I got some answers.
Life for the natives was pretty horrible...still is in some parts though, the reservations in the Dakotas and Montana are like going back in time a hundred years with how impoverished they are.
But having grown up in Montana everything is about Lewis and Clark, signs and parks all over the place with their names plastered on it. With the exception of Custer's battlefield, seems like in Montana they regard ole Custer as just slightly less great than Lewis and Clark.

Well, this is one good explanation. Venetians, Dutch or Portuguese, Maybe even Romans, from what Japanese hear in the markets of China.
One weird update that was. Kamchatkans getting in the way of your dragon hunting, Korea beating Manchu, someone is dancing to avoid death from snakebite.
I thought you would pile up and bit off pieces of Ming in such situation. Eh, at least you will practice dragon hunting with Koreans.
I have heard so many horror stories about living in Montana... I think I'll pass.(All weather related, naturally).
Looking at your current emperor and his heir, I'd probably go for economic/administrative ideas, depending on how much you rely on mercenaries. As for military: Quality or offensive. Leader siege is a nice gimmick but not more - offensive offers discipline (reduces your casualties), leader fire/shock/maneuver and forcelimits.I’m thinking of going with a military idea, since admin is hard to come by and I don’t want to lag behind in diplo tech any longer. Quality is attractive, since it helps both the navy and the army, yet the bonus to leader siege offered by Defensive is also a possibility.
What do you think, dear readAARs? Am I being paranoid, and should I go for Expansion or even Naval instead and damn the diplo tech? I have to say, a third Colonist sounds pretty enticing too.
I am mostly a noob at EU4, but with a 6 military ruler, picking a military group sounds good! I can't really advise as to which though. Given that your heir has only 1 diplo, I would avoid those groups. I think diplo tech boosts your colonial range too, so that will help when you finally find the new world!

For diplo tech: lag behind. Diplo tech is the least important of the three early on, unless you deliberatly need the additional colonization range.
Wow, you completely destroyed that Korean fleet
Don't think I've ever seen that with two fleets of similar sizes.
I'd go with either administrative/economic or offensive, depending on whether you primarily need money or better soldiers. I'd say offensive; that discipline bonus is juicy, and if you finish you get the Forced March which really helps you win battles and bravely run away. Plus I've usually found that I tend to pile up mil points because there isn't really much you can do with them other than advancing tech.
Maybe Trade ideas. You'll need money from trade to pay soldiers and getting money from two more trade notes is tempting.
