Komichywa (that's hello in Japanese to all you westerners)

I was playing EUIV recently as the nation of Nippom (Japan) and I noticed Japan's treatment in the game is very ahistorical!

My name is David (but my Japanese name is Ryu), I'm a 30 year old art major at the University of Michigan, I draw manga (Japanese Comics) as a side hobby and also minor in Japanese history up to 1500s, as you can clearly see I know a great deal about Yomatoe (ancient word for Japan) and I really care aboput how it's treated in game.

While the game is correct in having Japan divided by Daimyo (Japanese noblemen) at the start, it really has lackluster national ideas, especially in military! I should know, I got my Katana license 3 years ago and imported a Masamume Katana sword straight from Japan for $12,000. I've practiced with it every day, and I'm now good enough to cut clean through steel beams (for comparison, not even jet fuel can bend or melt steel beams!) I'm getting better every day, and I hope to impress many Japanese people with my knowledge of their powerful sword art.

In history Japan was feared for it's disciplined Samurai and Katanas of doom, that's why England never invaded Japan, and why during WWI Japanese Katana Soldiers would always lead the charge into the trenches of Europe. Japanese smiths used only the finest steel, that they folded over a million times to make a blade sharper than any scimitar and stronger than any Zhweihander, while also being light as a feather. That is also why Japan continues to use Katanas in their modern day armies!

As it stands, Japan can quickly be overrun by the Nanban (Japanese for Westerner) while they only have mustkets I think you can clearly see this is a mistake. That's why I made a new Japanese National Idea tree that I feel is far more fitting of how the nation of Nippom was historically.

Idea 1: Bushido Discipline: all Japanese units get +20.00% discipline and +10.00% Morale along with 8 base shock
Idea 2: Shogunate: Nippom gets +30.00% Manpower Recovery Speed and -2.00 War Exhaustion Monthly
Idea 3: Zaibutsu: Japan gets +25.07% Global Trade Power
Idea 4: Shintu Syncretism: Japan gets +6.00 Tolerance of Heretics and Heathens and Shinto provinces can't be converted
Idea 5: Zen: Japan gets -45.00% stability cost and westernization is cut in half.

Now that seems much more representative of the "Prussia of The East" don't you think? :3

TL;DR Japan is really underpowered in EUIV and needs some extra buffs, see my idea tree above.

Thank you and Shalom (That's "Thank you and goodbye" in Japanese)

EDIT: While it's important that Parodox adds this to the main game, in the meantime I'd like to thank the amazing Voffvoffhunden for creating a mod to properly balance Japan for EUIV

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Japan is pretty underpowered and I feel these changes would be for the best. Do you have other ideas?

It is like my favorite Japanese saying says "A geshvir iz a guteh zach bei yenem untern orem."

Which means "the tallest nail is the first to be hammered down"; just because Japan stands out as a nation doesn't mean it should be hammered down by Paradox.

I think he means that your thread looks like a joke because of the ridiculous modifiers you want to throw on them. Even if we half the modifiers for your idea's it's pretty much overpowered...

Oy Vey (Japanese for "Oh Know")

Dude if you ever watched any Japanese Animes you'll see the stat block is fairly accurate to how Japan was in it's feudal period. During the Meiji restoration, the Emperor Hirihito had to swarm the rebelling Samurai with men in muskets because their Katanas were strong enough to Bisect a soldier into three pieces before he could even fire and reload.

Ah but the Japanese Samurais were at least 4x stronger than any other country's soldiers at the time. Plus that is why Russia, in spite of very advanced technology, couldn't conquer Korea when Imperialist Japan was protecting it.

+1 for amusing trolling

Also, you forgot to add an idea where you get to create new islands on the map.

(Because everyone knows the Japanese islands were created by a katana striking the sea surface and then dropping little water drops back to the sea surface, each thus creating oh-so-divine Japanese isles...)

I would be happy if they fixed up the terrible pop ups for Japan, I cant remember the name but its like 1% province trade power and 5% tax rate for 10 years for 1100 ducats and theres another one just as bad, something like 1100 ducats for 5% tech discount. But for the AI they definitely should increase the aggressiveness of Japanese vassals so they eventually form Japan faster. Japan, once formed, should also be one of the ones listed that gets higher chance of being militaristic in the personalities file.

Come on man don't be stupid, Japan was horrible back then. It only had fish and some silver that all went to China. The katana isn't even that good or well made and the iron in Japan was of much worse quality than European iron. If the Japanese had sent all their samurai over to Europe they'd still get wrecked by just Portugal.

Come on. Even the Koreans were able to drive them off and all they do is play Starcraft.
