I play as Japan, year is 1470s and i have only one 2 daimyo under me whom has 2 low base tax provinces.
I own practically all of japan, with a quite decent base tax, however i only have 15 army force limit WITH an advisor giving me +10%.
I cannot beleive such a low army for so many provinces :I.

will the number change once i fully unite japan?
or is it a bug?

i started this yesterday.

Did you build army attachments for provinces?

No land-FL increasing buildings are available in the 1470s.

If i'm remembering correctly, in your situation, FL should be 2 + 50% of your capital BT* + 25% of your other BT.
It's not surprising that your FL is only 13 or 14 before advisor.

Formally Uniting japan shouldn't really have any impact. Build temples as cash/MPs allow (0.25 per BT), try to conquer additional territory, or consider idea groups that increase Land FL or Available Mercs (they grant flat bonuses to FL).

*Wiki currently seems to imply a flat 0.5 FL bonus from capital province, but I'm fairly sure that's incorrect

Aww, sorry. I`m on duty and I`m too tired to forget the tech level.

Well, I don`t think it`s a bug, either...

Just recommend play more and check situation because you spent only 26 years in the game.

And don`t forget, you can gain more BT and MP if you earn more provinces.

japan didn;t get any love in AoW.

as a result, theyre now pretty weak actually, compared to natiosn in idnia and the like. im doing a bengals game, it's now 1475 and while i can't say i did a really great job during it(should have gone after jaunpur sooner and delhi is just a dead weight ally>_>), i do have 23 forcelimit, some vassels and dominance ove rmy trade node(54%) so im pretty damn rich even when running a +3 and +2 advisor.

japan can really use a small base tax and province buff to bring them back in line witht he rest of asia. they were pretty strong historically(just veeeeery focussed on internal stuff), but after AoW they fall behind the other asian nations very very quickly.

No. Japan was *absurdly* powerful relative to Ming and Korea in 1.7 and before, and they have powerful military NIs. The notion that they are "behind other Asian countries" is absurd.

If you want to buff Japan, a more useful way to do so would be to remove the fake difficulty and bugs in their events and decisions (such as needing 7500 republican tradition to enforce Sakoku law, which doesn't even work for monarchies this patch I've read). OP is probably short on FL in part due to autonomy.

Presumably you diplo-annexed a bunch of Daimyo's, and their land now has ~75 Local Autonomy. Contrary to my initial expectations, Local Autonomy does also lower the amount of force limit you get from those provinces, so that's why it's so low.

No land-FL increasing buildings are available in the 1470s.
Well, temples, but he didn't really mean those :p

The Wiki is correct, there is no special bonus percentage for force limit from the capital. The only thing in the capital that increases it is the fact that it get 2 extra flat tax, which is an additional 2/4 = 0.5 FL.

Well, Japan being too strong compared to Ming isn't actually a japanese problem. Ming just sucks. I'd also argue that Korea is pretty strong atm. Their NIs are way above average. The funny thing is: No matter where I play, at some point Japan turns catholic. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Shinto Japan.

I'm talking about their base tax in the game. Comparing pre 1.8 values, Japan was enormously disproportionately favored and remains strong now.

The western trade event screwjob is probably hammering them with the new rebel system though, especially because the game penalizes you for having a single culture since it'll revolt 100+ rebels at once or some idiocy as opposed to split revolts in a multiculture empire.

The Force Limit issue is prevalent with all countries in AoW. I have the entire northern half of the HRE as Hansa and I have, like, 18 FL.

I believe you now need to build up base tax and military buildings and, of course, remove autonomy and nationalism before your true FL can be attained.

Which is as much part of the unification and centralization of Japan as annexing a bunch of unruly vassals.

yes, they were absurdly strong. i'm not arguing that that situation was optimal. however, as it is now japan is just falls off compared to all the updated regions in asia. they have to go through a bunch of hoops to even get their lands united, then have to eat the 75% autonomy, and guess what? now you get hit by events that cause you problems.

i don't really mind how theyre brought back in line, but if they manage to unite most of japan korea should be rightfully buddyíng up to ming. not japan being overgrown with rebels and never really uniting properly.

No amount of reasonable buffs are going to help AI Japan against being invaded by 2 French armies each time they get a revolt.
