I don't know about that, I chased Japan off the continent and WP'd them, and then when the truce period expired they immediately declared war again, despite the fact I had 1.5 million troops in the field and they had 150k. Though I suppose their overwhelming naval superiority (I had my starting navy, they had 200+ ships) and vast air advantage (I had like 500 planes, they had like 2500) might have factored in, I really think they shouldn't have declared. I'm honestly even surprised they had any wargoals against me, it's not like I had any of their cores and I don't recall there being any Japanese claims on the mainland either, unless the stuff from the Marco Polo Bridge incident never expired / got cleared?

The original claims.probably never were cleared. It was a truce period after all. But you could bug report it so that PDS verifies that it is WAD.

I don't know why they removed Japan's focus to attack the USA, because FDR never does the Pearl Harbor Gambit.

Right now, the USA will get involved thru joining the Allies. Japan will go after the NEI. If Japan takes the Philippine focus that will draw her master USA in automatically.

The Pacific campaign should be next on the list to fix, I hope.

Before 1.5, JAP used to DOW USA, and not the PHI. This way you could have easily avoided dragging PHI into WW2, having a neutral airfield right next to the Japanese AO. In 1.5, Japs did not create enough World Tension for me to even be able to go for War Plan Orange, so obviously, I couldn't get PH Gambit too. BUT they did attack PHI, and it dragged me into the war as well. Much better than 1.4, IMO.

They also sent two naval invasions at me, to capture Wake and Midway. I think they had them pre-planned before they DOWed, beause I did not set up air superioirty patrols before the war started, and set up air cover only after the fact. And, if I understand things correctly, this allowed them to set naval invasions into motion. You couldn't do that when the enemy has air superiority in the region, right?

Anyway, it's a really good thing that Japs start by DOWing PHI. One thing Jap AI missed tho - they did not pre-planned PHI naval invasions, as per history. But I haven't played much after the war began to see if they would send anything there later.

In my last game, Japan won in China, conquered India, obliterated the US fleet and got Guam and Wake. They then stopped doing anything and weren't able to proceed with Hawaii or Alaska. Philippines were invaded by Nationalist Spain. Spain then staged an invasion of Canada. So - Spain is the new Japan?

In my UK game, Japan declared on the Phillipines in August 41. Japan had defeated China quite comprehensively, Barbarossa was stalled in mid Ukraine/Westerm Russia, Italians had lost North/East Africa, Sardinia, Sicily and I was in the process of liberating Greece.

Same thing occurred for my in my USA 1.5 game, but I noticed the war merging feature in 1.5 was completely FUBAR. Shortly after, it would not let me join the Allied faction (but oddly enough I 'could' join the Allied Faction just prior to JAP DOW but I wanted to stay historical so I didn't cheese it). However, a few weeks later, the UK offered me to join the Allies which I did. And then of course the allies asked me to join their war against Germany.

Where it really broke was with the wars list. It said I was both in both an offensive and defensive war. Being in an offensive war of course drops your War Support by 20%, which took 20 weeks and 150PP to recover using Propaganda decisions. The first war is Allies versus JAP and Axis (GERMAN-AMERICAN WAR). The second is Allies and Comintern versus Axis (GERMAN-SOVIET WAR). I don't know which war the game is considering offensive and which is defensive, because unlike in 1.4, it won't display that info. Both war should be offensive of course, because GER DOWed Allies and Comintern. JAP DOWed Allies and USA.

It seems like basic testing of the war merging feature wasn't tested on USA Historical Focus.

Oh, PS - no JAP invasion of Philippines. They tried several weeks after war start to invade Guam, but my 1 27W division repelled their 2 27W divisions (no, not using marines, just INF). And their navy spreads out and even though the USA Combined Fleet is destroying everything that enters the Midway sea zone, the JAP Combined Fleet is not yet committing (to my pleasure, waiting for my historical Essex Carriers to finish building).

In my China game, I white-peaced Japan in '40 and then they DOWed DEI in '41. US joined allies in '42 and that brought Japan into the war against US.

Italy is invading Philippines even though UK has taken over all of France - very strange.

I was "playing" as India (really just garrisoning key areas and sending attaches to observe AI) on historical and despite taking til 1941 to capitulate China, the IJN wrecked the USN and took (and held) Hawaii in '43! It's the first time I've seen that.

I've seen them take Hawaii from 1.4.2, but I've never seen them land in the US mainland ever.
