Japan defeated before December 7 1941

Playing 1.9.3 base DSLs only as Germany.

Have been playing non-stop for 7 weeks - many thanks to those who post tutorials and monitor the forum.

Background: took France and England in mid 1940. Normal path through Yugoslavia and Greece to Russia in June 1941.

Looking to conquer or neutralize Russia before joining Japan against USA in December 1941. However USA conquered Japan in 3 or 4 months and knocked them out of the game.

Any input about weather this is 'normal' and/or how to prop up Japan so I do not lose their navy.

It happens sometimes but it's not common. Honestly just garrisoning Japan's homeland is enough, since they rarely do while fighting China. If you want their navy to actually move and fight decently they need fuel though.

us conquers japan in your games? in all my games the allies completely ignore japan and japan is able to conquer everything between japan and africa.
i had to fight of the japanese in turkey of all places.

USA is good against Japan if the Axis stays out of the war. If the Axis is beside Japan the USA will focus everything on the Axis so Japan gets a free hand.

Never had that, in all my games Japan conquers all of Asia, Australia and new Zealand. The applies really struggle with pushing them out, since Japan by this point has enough resources and fuel to keep its air force and navy fighting.
