Is it like a standard civilizing deal or is the Meiji Restoration event the trigger--as in, its the only way to civilize Japan and is triggered by date and not by meeting requirements for civilizing?

OHgamer said:No you can do it either way.
You can civilise either way. You do not have to meet the civilising requirements (industry, military and prestige) if you go the Meiji path. The latter is an event chain that triggers on its historical date.Kagernaut said:Is it like a standard civilizing deal or is the Meiji Restoration event the trigger--as in, its the only way to civilize Japan and is triggered by date and not by meeting requirements for civilizing?

Thank you.
Oh, and does being sattelited keep you from civilizing?
Kagernaut said:I did that the first time I played China, but right now I"m trying to get the Meiji restoration since it gives so many techs anyway.
Found out that being sattlited in Dutch event sleeps the event that starts the chain to Meiji in 1853.
