Hi and thanks as always,

I've played HoI2/Arma for some years so I know how convoys work (well, behave). I always manage them myself, making sure to add more convoys when more troops arrive so they will have enough supplies and oil.

This is my first time playing Japan. Same setup: HoI2/Arma 1.2 patch (I never tried the beta). This was also a clean install.

Everything great in the beginning. Fukuoka --> Tangshan/Dalian/Busan all okay, all receiving or already having enough supplies/oil.

Right after the Marco Polo Bridge incident where I went to war with China was when the oil problems started. I have 28k oil. I have no oil shortage. I noticed that my HQ units and interceptors were short on oil late in the day (20:00 or so).

I checked the depot at Tangshan and also at Dalian and Busan. Supplies aplenty but no oil. Okay, I upped the convoys to 150, way more than enough. A ton of supplies arrive (as the port master curses the extra work) but no oil??? I changed the supply province from Fukuoka to Kanazawa (by cancelling convoy and recreating). Still no oil.

Now the oil acts oddly. There is no oil shown in Tangshan, but my units run out of it at 22:00. That's not "that" bad. A few days later they run out at 10:00. What's up?

Also, Japan starts out with incoming manpower at 0.71. That was eventually raised to 0.84. But now it is 0.65??? Why?

It just feels like the game is behaving very oddly. As if it's changing how it works as it goes. I never had this problem before. Is Japan know to have these issues? My install may be corrupt.

Again, I am familiar with convoys. As Germany I usually invade South America and I keep my convoys supplying supplies and oil to my units. I never had a problem like this one I have with Japan. Yes, auto convoys and the like is all off. Thanks again!

Any help is appreciated.

***EDIT Okay, duh, I just noticed the post "(as japan) Convoys never transport enough ! " and the replies, particularly "In my first game as Japan (1.3 Beta 2), I also had this problem. My convoys would send no oil to Tangshan to supply my planes and HQs. After I deleted all of the convoys, and having them auto-recreated, the problem disappeared."

I will try cancelling all the convoys, waiting a day, then manually remaking them. If manual doesn't work, I'll try auto. Also, this is the Anthology where Arma is a standalone. I have Arma patch 1.2 (not beta as in the reply) and my verification code is VBLV, which is correct.

And even if that works, what about my manpower issues? Well, I'll try it and see. Sorry for not looking below.

I don't know about the convoys, but I can answer the issue with the manpower.

During peacetime, Japan gains manpower from its territories on the mainland. During wartime, they do not. You need to have a land connection from the territory to your capital to get manpower from it during wartime.

Same thing occurs with the UK.

Its a game feature.

The problem with more supply depots for a single area (three in your case) is that the troops are supplied from one of these depots, then if the depot is not supplied, they pass to another depot and so on. The convoys may not bring oil because there is in the other depot, but your troops didn't switch to that one because there are still supplies in the first. The best thing to do is to cancel de Busan and Dalian depots (cancel de supply convoys for those locations, bring home the supplies through the resource convoys) and keep a single depot for an area/front (Tangshan is the best for that). A single depot, a single convoy for a single front is the basic rule for logistics in HOI2 however unrealistic. That also keeps your supply expenditure more readable. Another problem is when you land in occupied territory and the depots are switched. I made half of an update about this in my AAR about Japan, http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=385468&page=2

About the manpower; it's working as designed. You got more manpower because you weren't at war from your overseas territories. Now you're at war, you no longer get overseas territory manpower.

I want to thank everyone for their replies. You have helped me understand some game features much better.

The funny thing is, I did restart the saved game as a test before sleeping (although I did not not exit the main game entirely) and the problem persisted. After that I shut down the PC.

The next day I started up again, cancelled all the convoys again, waited a day, re-established the convoys using auto (all 3 checked), watched some weirdness for a while on auto-manage, then went to manual (all 3 unchecked) when it looked safe, lol.

All appears well now. Perhaps there is something about restarting the game itself as posted above.

I will definitely switch to one depot. I noticed that the other two are pretty much superfluous, although you will probably need Busan if you invade Russia, which I don't intend to do for quite some time.

So thank you again for the manpower and convoy/restart information. It all works like a charm now :)
