Hi.

This will be an AAR for Japan game, starting in 1933.

The goal will be to take out USA. Starting the Pearl Harbour in around end of 1941. Also take all of China, British Raj, Australia and stuff, will be a priority.

I am not doing any storytelling, only describing what I am doing, and then hopefully take out US.

My plan is to go heavy on motorised, and also build a decent amount of mountaineers. As for navy I will focus on building a quite big amount of CV's and some DD's and TP for around start of 1939.

I will ignore airforce early on, but maybe some after 1939 ish.

Will follow.

Just installing Darkest Hour again. My laptop died, and fixed my desktop today, so I'll be back on the gaming. Maybe good with a break.

So, I am starting the Japan save now, but I have some strategical decsisions to make, like doctrine. Do any of you have any suggestions? I will look through the stats ingame. I have also read up on combat stats and some stuff I was not sure like partisan affecting IC etc. So I feel I am ready. The goal will be to knock out US, and I am so wanting to do that after failing a few times.

I'm always using Mobility Doctrine no matter the country just to get tank divisions before other countries.

However, I've heard it is not the best one for Japan and I'm not quite a pro in this game. :p
Leaving that behind, I'll follow this with interest, I always enjoy seeing Japan runs. :)

Good luck beating the crap out of China :p I find them quite annoying once their army recovers.

Managed to spill some beer on my PC, so I had to let everything dry to be sure it would not be damaged.

But, up and running now. Started the game. I am just going to test putting in some pictures, to see how it works out:

So my starting plan is, to first get to partial mobilization, then to get down dissent, and then to build factories.

First I do is to go Hawk Lobby, I am not doing Free Market, because event will put me all the way to Central Planning (this I just know from playing before). Then I will go as much Free Market from there as possible. Also did two changes to the ministers to give me better bonuses to research and less consumer good demand.

As for technology first years will mostly be industrial technologies, and getting up to date where I am lacking behind. I am pretty much going to need almost all technologies for this game, as I plan on building INF, MTN, MAR, CAV, MOT, ARM, INT, CAS, CV, CA, CL, DD etc.

0004.png

My big focus will be on MTN, CAV and MOT, so I am going Light Infantery with the doctrine. I have been reading up, and Light Infantery has both quite good Org and really good Morale around 1942. And giving bonuses to INF, MTN and CAV, and night fighting.

Going three year conscription, bringing my dissent up to 5. My plan is to shortly also going partial mobilization which will give me +12 in dissent. As for production I am going hard on the supplies the first months just to bring up my stockpiles, this is to be also able to trade with other countries. As for getting down dissent, I am going both national descisions and consumer goods. They both take around the same time but national descisions gives me research or TC bonuses. Problem is that there is a limited amount of money avaliable. Production wise, I disbanded the ships that were at 0%, and also stopped giving IC to production, reinforcements and upgrades, and I will keep it like that until dissent is at 0%.

08. march 1933:

Going for Southern focus.

My plan is as follows:

1937 - 1939; take all China.
Right after Danzig (1939) - 1941; take all British Raj, Australia, New Zealand, Siam, and all other allied provinces in South East Asia.
1941/early1942 ; Pearl Harbour and taking down US.

Did the Kirin Province Subjection when I hit 500 supplies.

After getting some supplies, I sold supplies to Canada and Italy to give me the 500 money needed for (6. april 1933):

I switched Chief of Army, to get the -15% supply consumption, bringing my needed IC to supplies from 20.24 to 18.12.

Making trade-agreement to get more money in;

27th july 1933 I go partial mobilization. I have now first got down dissent through consumer goods, and when the dissent went near 1, I started producing supplies, and I have traded supplies to give me over 4000 money.

Naval reorganization

"Battlefleet" is my current main combatfleet, consisting of all capital ships that atleast have speed of 24. And lots of screens

0011.png

I also grouped lot of old ships with the transports, giving a transport fleet of 18 combat ships and 9 transports. I will ofcourse build more transport ships.

I also set aside 8 of the newest CA's and 10 of the newest CL's, these have all speed beyond 30, and these will be screens to the CV's I am building.

I converted 3 old (gen 1/2) CL's to escortes.

National Research / National Infrastructure:

I am doing these now when I have money, mostly on National Research, I am only doing "Substansial investment", to keep me from going to much central planning.

0012.png

I also thought/wrote wrong earlier when I based my decsision to go for Hawk Lobby, in that I would end up in central planning, but it is "Closed Society" I end up in.

Got the blueprint on this huge tech through national research;

Also, dissent only on 5,8 now.

Not much happening in 1934. I renewed a new trade agreement with Soviets for money, otherwise just choosing which techs to research.

6th of October 1934, first batch of factories are finished.

0017.png

Adding some more factories (longer series) and 3 more in parallell;

0018.png

21th November 1934 I got the Military Academy Incident which gave me 2 dissent, trying to buy some money for supplies to get rid of the dissent.

Dissent cleared, and last tech slot opened as my base IC hit 100.

I can't proffer any gameplay advice, but I do like to see how you have done thus far.

What change would you do? And why? Hawk lobby I will probably get anyways, so I am not doing that
I usually like to have full free-market as upgrading units takes less time. :)

But my vanilla strategies for Japan rarely succeed. :p

I went free market. But I did not want to, because of IC production now, and getting 5 less IC for producing IC. I was thinking about going for Open Society, but I am not sure if some events will put me more against Closed, so I am not risking it.

Army re-organization.

Transported all my army to the mainland, and then I split them up in the different types, my army consists of;

35 INF
5 MIL
5 CAV
5 MAR
2 HQ
1 Guard

Puppets; 25 + 3 divisions

0026.png

I am going to organize my fighting units into corps of two divisions. I am going with two in each corp instead of three, because USA is huge.

Writing down some prices in ICdays (IC * days):

INF 1931; 954,6
MNT 1935; 1820,7
MAR 1931; 2427,6
CAV 1932; 1428
MOT; 3430,4

So this tells me, that MAR are expensive, and CAV are quite cheap. MTN I need, and I am basing my army around them.

I am not upgrading my milita to INF/CAV (upgrading MIL to CAV is more expensive than building new CAV) as I need a lot of milita from 1939 onwards. And I save IC days on not first upgrading milita to INF, and then build more milita (around 200 ICdays).

I think I actually have to many normal INF from the start now. I think I will upgrade 15 of them to MAR/MTN/CAV.

Event, and I got more Open Society!:

Research atm, I am planning on building artillery soon, so researched that now.

Price to upgrade INF 1931 to;

MAR 1931; 1915 ICdays + 954,6 = 2869,6
CAV 1932; 1013 ICdays + 954,6 = 1967,6
MTN 1935; 1027 ICdays + 954,6 = 1981,6
MOT 1935; 2894 ICdays + 954,6 = 3848,6

The prices where;

INF 1931; 954,6
MNT 1935; 1820,7
MAR 1931; 2427,6
CAV 1932; 1428
MOT; 3430,4

So this gives values in ICdays wasted in producing vs upgrading;

MAR 1931; 2869,6 - 2427,6 = 442
CAV 1932; 1967,6 - 1428 = 539,6
MTN 1935; 1981,6 - 1820,7 = 160,9
MOT 1935; 3848,6 - 3430,4 = 418,2

So, MTN units are cheap to upgrade to.

I am keeping 24 INF divisions, in 12 corps of 2 div, and upgrading 5 of inf to MAR (expensive), and upgrading 6 INF to MTN.

Making prioritzed upgrades on the units I am chaning to other types;

There is an end to production of factories, 12 runs will go to november 1937, but the rest will stopp in 1936.

0030.png

Coup attempt. I am listening to their demands, to get the sweet stuff like full Authorian, Interventionist and Hawk Lowby, even if it fucks up my cabinet, and gives me dissent (+ extra dissent from minister changing).

0031.png

Producing supplies like crazy so I can trade them for money, so I can get down my dissent. Factories don't get gearing bonus. Just used 2000 bucks on National Research.

0032.png

Minister changes (giving me 3 more dissent);
