Everyone knows that the end of times is actually January 3rd, 1821. It is the fateful day all life stops and nothing can progress anymore, nor it can be reviewed other than by watching the timeline.

But what if it was a better world?

1) If we are so intent on completely ending the game at this point, why not lift the fog of war and remove terra incognita worldwide? It’s not like you can actually act on this information anymore; the game has ended. It would also provide for more aesthetically pleasing end-of-game screenshots and a more readable timeline replay.

2) In addition to the former, why not make the end-of-game statistics screen collapsible or closable? Keep the ban on unpausing the game and just let the player observe the fruit of their labour. Let them switch mapmodes too, for all that’s holy. Why is it necessary to lock out every feature other than timeline and quit-to-menu?

3) In addition to the former, allow switching mapmodes in the timeline replay. Why can’t I look up how exactly Spain shipped off her minorities to the New World and replaced them with loyal Castilians? (won’t be relevant once 1.30 hits but it’s just an example)

4) The most revolutionary outcome, however, would be to allow to keep playing past the cutoff point even in Ironman, just disallowing any achievements not yet obtained. The technology is here to keep playing past the end date, why not apply it to Ironman?

This!!!

I'm so frustrated when I reach the end of the game and then try to reload my save a second time and can't see anything. Third parties programs I recently discovered like Skanderberg can be useful, but they cannot replace the original game for the aesthetic nor the feeling of accomplishment. Map modes would be great. The technology exists, why not use it?

Playing past the end date would be a good addition, but the other things you mention are a must in my mind.
