Capital province: Jangladesh

Tech area: Indian

Jangladesh on very hard. I must really hate myself for doing this o_O

But now that 'very hard' difficulty is back (Thanks Johan!) I felt COMPELLED to try it out in patch 1.17.
@TheMeInTeam said Jangladesh/Nagaur is a masochistic choice if you want to play India region. Ok, challenge accepted

Our next AAR will be about JANGLADESH, on VERY HARD difficulty.

Jangladesh has a 0/0/2 ruler to start with.

They are a vassal of DELHI.

Their development is a rocking 1/3/1.

Their national traditions and ambitions are really crappy.

....and we got Mewar in the south. UGH. I hate Mewar. Err, but wait.

.... Oh right, we are Rajput nation also! We have +50% coring cost on all our provinces.

But hey, this will be fun! I hope ;)

Still, MEWAR must die

It won't be easy though

Take a look at the bonuses the AI nations will get. OH. MY. GOD

It synergizes with transparant political mapmode, which makes it 'gorgeous'. Some might like it, some won't. I turned it off after while, in chapter 14.

You have to delete one file in the mod to make it ironman compatible, it says so on the steam workshop page. Terrain.bmp or something.

Chapter 1: MEWAR MUST DIE!

I didn't re-roll for a good start. I take what I get. First thing that happens in this campaign: Timurids rival my overlord Delhi.

Support my independence then?

No thanks they say, I am Hindu and all. And can't reach Delhi and whatnot. Grmpf :(

In fact, noone wants to support us off the bat, since most neighbours are of another religious group then us.

And then Delhi does this, within a month after starting this campaign

OOOKKAAAY, I guess we will worship Allah then!

Jaunpur also worships Allah (many nations in India have Sunni/Shia government faith, and mostly Hindu religion provinces), and now they are VERY eager all of a sudden to support our independence..

Well, that big Delhi pretender rebel stack is going to attack our overlord' army. I decided to start my independence war there and then. Jaunpur will help

NOONE allied Delhi yet. Don't look at me, nothing to do with it!

One of the consequences of playing on VERY HARD, is that the AI will receive a lot MORE condottieri offers from nearby nations.
This can lead to an enemy that suddenly has TWICE the troops they had before declaring the war, easily.

Delhi hires this. Delhi hires that.

Great

Delhi threw all troops in the fight against the pretender army, and lost. They got routed to the neighbouring provinces.. One of them near my capital.

They will arrive there on the 31st, within the SAME month.

My troops, our rocking 2k army(!), fled the capital when condottieri appeared.

NOW, they march for the province where Delhi is routing to!

*STOMP*

Jaunpur attached to our little stack. Together, we engaged the condottieri on the capital of Jangladesh... In Jangladesh.

*STOMP*

Our king died during a siege

The -2 stability didn't apply, as Jangladesh was ALREADY at -3 stability

A new young king appeared.

My mouth fell open when I saw his stats o_O

5/5/6!

OOOKKK, seems this campaign is blessed from the start :D

A dangerous manoeuvring game began. The Delhi pretender rebels are HOSTILE, so I flee Delhi...

Jaunpur is engaging Delhi in Central Doab, and I decided to help.

It seems the Timurids are invading Multan to the west..

I don't really know yet whether that is good news, or bad

The small leftover Delhi army got wiped in Gird, as they had no other routing options.. The rebels and Jangladesh are occupying most of their provinces.

the 1k stack stood alone on the fort of Lahore since forever.. Jaunpur finally decides to attach to it. The other big Jaunpur stack attached also, to another 1k stack.

I use my good old 1.9.2 'move army one province at a time' strategy again, to make sure the attached armies never DETACH. That worked

Jangladesh finishes its mission to build an army! And that new 1k army gets sent to the last unoccupied province..

Jaunpur wants Delhi. They want it really bad. Their desire is so great, that they engage the big pretender rebel stack on Delhi capital. I lead everything I can spare to help.

Jaunpur and Jangladesh sent the pretenders packing, and Jaunpur foolishly gives chase to them.

Jangladesh starts the siege on Delhi, assigns 4k infantry to it in the end, and vinks 'attach to' OFF.

The Timurids won their war versus Multan with ease, and they agreed to become a vassal of theirs.

Delhi got sieged up, and Jangladesh is sieging the remaining fort on its own.

Hindu zealots were at 90%. The rebels on my capital got defeated by Jaunpur as soon as they spawned.

Looks like Sunni will STAY our religion :)

It has to stay that way, or we would lose the alliance with Jaunpur immediately

Important remark: If you change your religion to another religion group, all your allies of the OLD religion group will break alliance with you.

And that, as they say, is that. Jangladesh got its independence, and is owner of the rich center of trade in Delhi now. Jaunpur didn't mind.

Important tip: If you flag all provinces of your overlord as vital interest, then the nation that supports independence will not want provinces, on the condition YOU sieged all of them.

Important tip: look at states map mode before deciding what to ask for in any war. If you can ask for an entire state worth 30+ development, then do it. Taking provinces in different states is bad idea; better focus on taking all territory in 30+ development states then taking a bit of everything in various states. It will limit the rebel types, and you can make the conquered provinces STATE territory. After that, assign estates. Give everything to clergy estate, except for centers of trade. This will improve your tax income by a boatload.

Garhwal was busy in the east, and Jangladesh did a quick war. Their capital got occupied while their army was busy elsewhere, and Jangladesh is now one province bigger.
Granted, its a crap province :(

But now I might have a shot at expanding in the Himalayas.

I started to watch all wars, alliances and whatnot in all nations around me. Expansion options are really limited...

Gujarat started a war, and I wondered if I could profit from it.

Jangladesh has a crappy army, rebels, civil war threat and whatnot. At least Jaunpur still wants to be our friends.

It was unavoidable, an early civil war..

Jangladesh has 20+k rebels on its territory now o_O

At least the pretender rebels are hostile towards the rest.

Luckily enough the pretender rebels spawned on a province occupied by rebels. I let them fight each other ;)

The pretenders won, and I engaged them in Delhi while they still had low morale. I routed them to Paniput, and wiped them.

Jangladesh rivalled Mewar, as MEWAR MUST DIE

Gujarat thinks the same way, and wants to accept an alliance, due to sharing rivalry with Mewar.

Important tip: the enemy of your enemy/rival is your FRIEND, especially on very hard difficulty.

Civil war means more pretender rebels might spawn. I decided to start a war against MEWAR now, to have a shot at enemy armies killing my rebels.

The army of Jangladesh helped Gujarat to fend off their initial attack.

Ok, they all got routed. I tried to let all armies of Gujarat attach to my armies, and we started our little annihilation war against Mewar together

Mewar hired a LOAD of condottieri. Every step can be our last here o_O

The next round of fights was won, but how long will this last?

Lets look at an overview :)

More and more pretender rebel stacks spawned... But our ambassador did good work in the past; Jaunpur likes us enough to kill our rebels for us!

Important tip:
High relations with a NEIGHBOURING ally, combined with giving military access to that friendly ally, will trigger 'rebel siege' behaviour in those AI allies. They will siege back all provinces occupied by rebels. A nice side effect of this is that these allies will almost always blunder into those rebel stacks, and kill them FOR you. In the end, they will always kill the rebels. Trust has nothing to do with this. NOTHING at all. Having high relations is enough.

Anyways, Jaunpur stumbles into a load of pretender rebels thanks to this. Jangladesh focuses on sieging the enemy!

In the civil war, Jangladesh occasionally gets a choice between more legitimacy for its ruler, or more chaos. I always chose the first, and the legitimacy of our GODLY king is rising...

The fort on Nagaur province fell. Thanks to the continious civil war events, our ruler now has 80 legitimacy

Our capital fell to the pretender rebels. The fort in Nagaur is now occupied by Jangladesh!

Jaunpur is killing all our pretender rebels. Thanks a bunch :D

They even resiege our capital now..

The civil war ended, after reaching 90 legitimacy. Jangladesh god king got an extra 10 legitimacy and we also got +3 stability for free!

Gujarat got battered by all the condottieri Mewar hired.. Their southern fort fell, and they peaced out of the war. Mewar got two provinces from Gujarat. At least we still got our Alliance

And then we got unexpected help. Malwa thinks Mewar is weakened enough now, they attack them

Probably because Garhwal dishonours alliance. Yeah, Jangladesh is sieging Garhwal now!

That siege ended, and Jangladesh descended from the mountains again. They arrived just in time to help the army of Malwa against Mewar!

After that battle was done, Jangladesh engaged the army of Garhwal, who were watching idly while Malwa killed Mewar... They dishonoured their alliance with Mewar after all, when Malwa declared their own war versus Mewar.

Jangladesh 'won' both the battles!

The army of Mewar had retreated to the province of Dhundar. We made it so that we arrived in that province right AFTER Malwa, so Malwa would take the brunt of the casualties..

But a stack reinforced the Malwa army, and the arrival dates got delayed for Malwa.. Jangladesh arrived first, and takes the brunt of the casualties..

GRMPF

Can't always abuse the AI like we want it to, I guess :(

At least we WIPED them, with the help of Malwa

Jangladesh spread its troops across all unoccupied provinces now, and sieged the capital of Mewar.

The Timurids declared on DELHI, and Jaisalmer and Bengal protected them. Hmm.. WE WANT THOSE PROVINCES! SHOO! VITAL INTEREST! BUGGER OFF

....they didn't listen :(

Jangladesh declared on Jaisalmer , and helped the Timurids a little versus Delhi. The Timurids will make a nice mess of things, and Jangladesh hopes to profit from all this..

Jangladesh full annexed Garhwal and Mewar, after Malwa made a seperate peace with Mewar.

Gujarat got a core back, and we had very good relations with them also now

MEWAR IS DEAD! HURRAY!

Next chapter will tell about the war against our rival Jaisalmer, amongst other things.

Hope you enjoyed this (first) chapter!

Finally, Jangladesh on very hard difficulty. You really make it yourself difficult you know, have you properly seen the bonuses for every AI country, it's insane ! Also not surprised to see Mewar dead after the first chapter.

Let's see how quick you will take over the world :). And this means I'm subbed!

Enjoy running into two province minors fielding 40k troops later in the game ~

Did you switch into the excellent Indian Sultanate idea set after getting religion forced to Sunni? If you convert 'normally' it will switch your ideas but I'm not sure about this edge case.

It's really rough if you didn't get those ideas.

Basically if you accept Hindu zealots from an Indian Sultanate you convert to Rajput ideas as well, and it works in reverse.

Indian Sultanate traditions are basically the thing that prevent most Indian muslims from blowing up early game with +3 tolerance to heathens and rapid 50% religious unity unlock. You have it a lot rougher :] though your diplomatic situation is certainly better.

Hmm no, Jaunpur killed the hindu zealots, and in my try out run non-ironman the alliance with all moslim nations got dissolved the moment I accepted hindu zealot demands.

I suppose I am better off with Jaunpur/Gujarat as allies, rather then having better ideas.

I'll just add all to ulema estate, hire a missionary minister from ulema, and convert everything.

Oh nice, you've been teasing us about this for a while now. Bit of a shame you didn't stay Hindu, but this promises to be very interesting nonetheless.
see above; I preferred good diplomatic situation over Hindu/new idea set.

Well, you can accept zealot demands while at peace, since ally attitude remains for a month you can then immediately re-ally. But if you're not sure you have +30 reasons for alliance to spare (to compensate for the -20 different religious group malus and various relation penalties) it can be risky doing this.

You also get significantly more AE with Muslims which is a big consideration with VH mode in particular.

True.. But to be honest, I was more busy with fighting and stuff.

And staying muslim sounds better.

These finer mechanic strategies... You have always been better at those ;)

Chapter 2: DELHI MUST DIE!

This is a war versus my rival Jaisalmer, who annexed Sind earlier on. Delhi joined the war as non co-belligerent.

The idea here is to do seperate peace with Delhi as soon as possible. Hence, the army of Jangladesh is sieging the (new) capital of Delhi.

Jaisalmer is also in the defensive war of Delhi versus the Timurids, and so far noone is disturbing my siege

Ok, that worked. Delhi is peaced out, and they got no allies left. Time to shift our attention to our rival Jaisalmer.

The occupation of Multan made Timurids back down, and Delhi is at peace again.

GOOD :D

Jangladesh managed to reach the mountain fort before any army could interfere. Jaisalmer hired condottieri from Vinegar, and they try to stomp me before I finish the siege. It was a close call, but I won

The condottieri had no routing option but MY land nextdoors, and Jangladesh gave chase.

I left 1 regiment on the besieged province and wiped the condotierri on my home turf. Then I went back to finish the siege.

I finished the siege before Jaisalmer finished the siege on my capital.

Time to attack Jaisalmer! Well condottieri from Gwalior to be precise

Our capital is no longer besieged, and Jangladesh follows the routing condottieri.

WIPE

Jangladesh attacks that peasant rebel stack, and then moves to siege the fort in Umarkot. Yay!

Our rival is defeated

Jangladesh did a blunt full annexation of their rival

Time for a little breather. But those rebel stacks in the Himalayas need to be destroyed

Jangladesh sieges back ONE province the rebels occupied. This will always trigger the rebels into attacking the province you sieged back. Hence the rebels get forced to attack you in mountains. Its best to resiege a province where the rebels will get malus to rolls due to terrain or river crossing, or both.

Both rebel stacks in the Himalayas got destroyed :)

Jangladesh has a claim on U-Tsang. Ladakh protects U-Tsang.

Once more, the AI hires a load of condottieri. They all try to siege my capital o_O

I finish he siege on THEIR capital FIRST though ;)

OUT OF MY WAY! I'm moving to Ladakh

Jangladesh outmanoeuvred the enemy, and tricked them into attacking us on mountain province. They got routed, and our army moved to Ladakh now.

The siege on the capital of Ladakh went smoothly. The enemy armies now try to resiege the capital of U-Tsang.

LADAKH got force vassalised by Jangladesh.

And right after, we ask the brunt of the provinces of U-Tsang :p

Jangladesh grants all the provinces to their new vassal Ladakh, all but two. We keep Bhutan, to be able to make a claim on Assam/Koch.

It looks BIG, but the Himalaya provinces are really crappy in development.

They ARE very STRATEGICALLY placed however. You can expand in all directions once you own the Himalayas.

We see that the Timurids are going for Delhi again, while we make our claim on Nepal.

HMMM.

MY LAND! VITAL TERRITORY! SHOO

They didn't listen (once again) :(

Well, if you won't listen, then maybe I can use you as meatshield! Jangladesh moved all its troops towards the remaining provinces of Delhi.

Delhi is allied to MALWA now, and together they field an army that is multiple times bigger then us.

But WHO CARES :D

Time for an opportunistic strike

Delhi engaged the army of Multan. Multan was defeated on the fort province of Lahore, after Delhi moved OUT and back IN that province.

This left a weakened Delhi stack on Lahore, and guess who comes knocking?

You guessed it ;)

Hi Delhi! BYE Delhi!

Jangladesh quickly placed troops on ALL the provinces Multan/Timurids can take. If we occupy them, then Timurids can't ask for anything. But the AI doesn't realize this beforehand.. They only realize this when all provinces of the enemy get occupied ;)

Let's abuse that.

Jangladesh is close to finishing the siege on Lahore, when Delhi and Malwa come knocking on our door.

Uh OH

They aren't going for my capital they are coming our way

But I decided to make a stance, as Timurids are right nextdoors in Multan. We *WILL* finish this siege in OUR name

The big stack engages us in Lahore, and the Timurids immediatly scramble to reinforce OUR fight.

HOLD THE LINE

The fight was won, we get load of warscore, and only THEN the Timurids realize they can't siege the province I'm standing on.

BYE Timurids. Thanks for the help ;)

The siege in Lahore concluded in our name, and Timurids officially can't ask for ANYTHING in their war versus Delhi...

That doesn't stop them from invading Malwa though.

GOOD :p

Abusing AI for the win ;)

The Delhi stack in Upper Daob was not at full morale and had unfilled regiments.

Jangladesh routed them again on their own, and started siege on the capital of Delhi in Upper Daob.

The remaining forces were sent to the capital of Malwa.

Meanwhile, the Timurids went in hunter/killer mode and killed whatever Malwa army they could find.

Suits me..

The ai wasn't beaten YET; Malwa and Delhi hired a load of condottieri now

The Timurids keep on hunting their armies down, while I do a siege in 3 different enemy provinces..

The Timurids get enough warscore from battles to do a peace with Delhi. They gave me a grim look when they rode back home.

Sorry Timurids ;)

I DID tell you Delhi was my vital territory.

SHOO

Our diplomats secured a claim on Gwalior. Malwa was the ally of Gwalior. But Jangladesh is at war with Malwa, so they can't protect Gwalior.

Time to strike, I guess?

When the siege on Rewa Kantha conluded, Jangladesh took position right NEXT to the army of Gwalior.

Kathiawar will protect them.

I made seperate peace with Malwa, annulling all their alliances (including the one with Gwalior). Malwa won't protect Gwalior now, and won't hop from one war against us to the next.

I messed up though, and got black flagged (stupid access rules!).

So Jangladesh moved towards Kathiawar first.

Always go for the allies of the wartarget FIRST, if able :)

The army of Kathiawar got WIPED in their capital, and Jangladesh left a siege stack on them.

The army of Gwalior thought it was good idea to move into the Himalayas

Beats me why.

I pursued and defeated them, and wiped them. Jangladesh backtracked to the capital of Gwalior.

War won..

Delhi had been cooking in the steamcooker for a good while now.

They softened up, and accepted FULL ANNEXATION!

Jangladesh now moves to kill the remaining army of Gwalior.

AND..

DELHI IS DEAD! HURRAY!

Hope you enjoyed this chapter!

Enormous progress in just 40 years! A question related to the screenshots: is it normal that all armies are pink? Normally they are grey and if in a war red, or is it a mod that changes it?

Besides that, how come you don't have a massive coalition against you? That annexation of Delhi alone gave you 60 AE.

I suppose that is indeed due to the mod, the pinkiness. I didn't notice it yet.

60 ae yes, but only with who would care about Delhi. Noone did.

And the ones who did, were in truce.

No coalition yet so far.

I did improve relations with Vinegar, I think THEY were the only nation that would be pushed in coalition immediatly if not.

As long as relations with a nation are positive, they can't go in a coalition.

This is why the new 'nation X Y and Z will join coalition' tooltip in peace screen is so handy... You can butter up nations that would go in coalition BEFORE you do the peace, and they will all vanish from that list.

It's funny how little most nations care about AE in the parts of the world that aren't western Europe.

shhh. I left out all the good events I got on purpose ;)

I think the luckiest thing so far was that crazy god king I got after a year into the campaign.

I suspect you've played far into the campaign but any chance you can post a ledger of army strengths?

VH-bonuses seem to mean enemies get ~1.5-2.0x the army sizes of normal. But sometimes it can go up to 3-4x because of the reduced build cost allowing them to get insane infrastructure built up early.

I'll write next chapter today, and include it. But it looks like you are right.
