At the moment, the mighty Jan Mayen can be summoned by means of a cheat code. That's fun, but it doesn't really fit into the usual difficulty settings of the game.
Suggestion: One of the options you can set at the start of the game is Jan Mayen. This is an optional setting compatible with Ironman (like the random/fantasy new world). If you turn it on, then Jan Mayen will appear at some point in your game (randomly any time from 1444 to 1821). You have no advance warning of when it will happen, and when it does you get an announcement telling you that the bear has landed. It could appear anywhere in the world as well (if they appear in an area that is still TI for you, then you don't know where it is, just that it is out there somewhere in the TI).
