EU2 is absolutely great. But people with poor or slow systems will be disapointed. The game runs SOOO slow it boggles the mind. I just can't stand it. And it's the only game I have installed right now! The only speed I can play at without major lag is 5 minutes = 1 month (and there's still a good ammt. of lag then...). And that's too slow - that's only one year per hour.

I played for one hour and I only got to the middle of 1420...

How much RAM - you need 128 MB for good performance in Grand Campaign plus at least 500 MB hard disk for swap file. Also defrag the disk - ot helps.

What's the spec of your machine - I'm guessing more RAM will help and defrag is always worthwhile with any games. But looking at the number of post you have I guess you've already tried this..

Cheers, Ice:cool:

The game is defniately slower in 1491 than any other scenario. Try another scenario and see if that doesn't help.

Definitely the problem - 64 is fine for later scenarios and passable for 1492. 1419 will struggle with this. Play with fog of war off.

Tell me about it. I beta tested at 64 MB RAM, and it does run slow. But, firstly, eventually some nations will be annexed and that speeds things up a bit. Play with the music off and that speeds things up quite noticeably.

But, you know what, I found that after awhile when I got things to do, I really didn't mind it running slow as much. It's just so engrossing that its speed didn't bother me...

I have always recommended 128mb RAM.
What specs does the box say? - I cannot get a copy until next year in this country (blooming Ubisoft!)

System Requirements

System Requirements:

Minimum:
*Pentium II 266 *64MB Ram *DX compatible graphics adapter (at least 2 mb video memory) *Win95 (must install Winsock 2 Update included on CD), Win98, ME, 2000 *DX 8

Recommended:
*Pentium II 450 *128MB Ram *DX compatible graphics adapter (at least 2 mb video memory) *Win95 (must install Winsock 2 Update included on CD), Win98, ME, 2000 *DX 8

I have 128MB and it seems to run slow.

By the way the music is good music but it seems to stutter on saves and when some message boxes pop up with the little noises they make.

Thanks

I dont have the game yet but I understand that there is a "settings" icon.
This will usually be found in the start/programs group or as an icon in the folder itself. It is there - you should also be able to change resolution from the same setting program.
Does it not mention it in the manual?

lol - Yep I noticed the edit after I had posted....

Thought my eyes were playing tricks for a moment.
If you still suffer from "stuttering" problems then it is usually something running in the background. It might be a ghood idea to read "running problems" in the Support forum and applying it to EU2 :)

You do NOT need a 500mb swap file!

But you should set your swap file so that it is fixed and not managed by Windoze. 300mb swap file is plenty.

I agree with everyone else though that 128mb is the minimum for decent playability. You really should have a 500+mhz processor, 128mb RAM, and a fixed swap file of 300mb or more.

Note. If you have 512mb+ of RAM and are running Windoze 95-98se, you will need to keep your swap file at less than 512mb or the machine will not go into Windoze. But then again, if you have 512mb+ of RAM, why would you want a swap file that big anyway?

I've got 256mb and playing 1419 - time speed runs just as well as EU1, but game is a bit jerkey (movement) - very happy with performance so far (seems very stable).
