well, seeing as payday isn't until friday I don't have the money for the full version of the game. but I did get the demo instead. I tried playing as the Byzantines but was terribly confused. Which of the four starters in the demo is a good choice?

Any of them is a good choice as they all are on a crossroads so to speak, where you really must make a choice about what you are going to plan for the future. The Byzantine one is pretty hard though. You might want to try Bohemia for a relatively peaceful affair or Poland if you want to try warfare (beat up pagans).

Poster above me suggested Matilda. Be sure to marry matrilinial. She is in a very strong position and is the easiest of the four probably.
