hi, i kept playing ocassionally on my old 2.45 game with HIP, I rolled back due to, among other things, the fact that my barony level vassals couldnt choose foci, thus they were unable to get educated, which eventually resulted in all my baron level vassals being level 1 morons (even with the genius trait)...playing the HRE, you wouldnt care, but with a smaller kindgom or republic, this substantially lowered your talent recruiting pool, not to mention granting a barony to a family member (and prospective future heir) and having him get a random level 1 education...
Does someone know if they fixed this stuff?

This bothers the hell out of me too. I've noticed this longer ago than I can recall, but I figured it was common knowledge at this point. But then to be fair, I've never seen anyone else bring this up. Hopefully this thread can get some attention and we can get a fix for this.

worse, I speculate that the challenge provided by the AI should drop dramatically, that is, you can still train your courtiers to be decent commanders, but the AI has a tendency to draft commanders from its baron vassals, which invariably end up as level 1 dumbasses

You can generate a random baron vassal, but after that the baron will get married and have children who inherit the barony (unless he dies too quickly).

ASAIK this is a design decision becasue of performance reasons. Many people complain about India causes more lag becasue all this new characters have events and this needs to be processed. Barons only sitting there doing nothing because it they would have the same rules the game would be unplayable slow.

Sadly education of heirs isnt the only problem, this also means they rarely build buildings in their holding, so often ill find barons with huge loads of money but a barely upgraded holding because they only seem to upgrade it every now and then, not whenever they can upgrade. Probably that they check different flags and things and such much less often.

Perhaps the same mechanic that prevents baron level vassals from choosing a WoL focus, also prevents them from choosing an education focus.

But them not spending money or somesuch is not what I have observed. Quite the contrary.

I would actually use conclave if they got rid of the new education system. it would be cool if they made it optional on the customisation screen they plan to release for the next update. Devs hear my plea

if performance is the problem, at least they could abstract or randomize the barony education system so that they would still have similar chances of getting an education compared to Conclave (ex: barony kid's higest skill is diplomacy, he gets diplomatic education with chances of higher level dependent on its base stats, guy being quick/genius, etc).
Historically, Its funny, the lombards wouldnt have been able to revolt and kick the HRE out of italy with all city mayors being retards, while the HRE counts were all buffed up with focus, Wol, etc...
I mean, historically, it was the exact opposite: the german nobility were a band of inbred dumbasses, while the city podestas were the smart ones haha

I don't think city dwellers are the problem, they have randomised succession like Theocracies. It's the feudal baronies that are hereditary.

They do spend money but very rarely. Often Ill check some random mayor who has 2000 gold and his city has like 5 upgrades he could do. Leads me to belive barons check if they can upgrade not so often.

Maybe a default can be set to have Baron's children educated in the old style of education. They would select themselves or a court member to educate the child and they would progress how it did before WoL and would likely take on the educators traits.

Seems like an easy enough route to oh I dunno, make Barony children great again.

In my experience, barons, bishops and mayors build the most expensive upgrades they are capable of first. So if the county is technologically advanced enough, that may be why you can see them with a lot of money and not building what they can. They are putting their gold under the bed... I mean, under the straw, to save for that costly Jousting List expansion, University or Cathedral.

But 2000 is more than anything costs ingame, so... I don't know why your barons are such misers.

Arumbas barons infected my game :/. But eh, I just decided to take things into my own hands, atleast in my capital, everything (even the trade post there) is maxed out or working on being maxed out for the current tech level.

yea, exactly, I want to make my republic great again in conclave haha...not a playground for a couple rich families like...modern day USA? haha...at least I have 5 families from where to choose the next doge, instead of the standard two over there (bushes and clintons)
:D
