CHAPTER IV The Reign of King Earled I (1135-1144)
State of The World at Beginning of the Reign:
England is about the 5th to 6th biggest and strongest Realm.
France is advancing into Iberia.The New French King is about to have a BIG problem.The Duke of Aquitaine etc. is set to inherit Normandy as well.Thus owning about 3/4 of the Kingdom.
Iberia:The Christians have the upper hand generally. but that can change because the 2 biggest Iberian Kingdoms(Castille and Galicia) are fighting each other for Castille's Throne.
HRE:is in the midst of another of its Independence "Revolts".One that has no chance of winning.
Norway:The Duke of Iceland! is winning a Civil War for the Throne.
Byzantine Empire:is slowly losing Anatolia, but is expanding in the Balkans.
Fatimids:Are BLOBoriffic.They are ROFL stomping people.Having destroyed Abyssynia,Apulia, and Axum.Also in the middle of defeating the 2nd Crusade for Jerusalem.
The Reign of King Earled I
I am King Earled I of Godwin.I'm happy with my lot in life and a bit of a coward......
June 1136,I send the Retinue to fight the rebels in Gwynedd.I hate the "Dutchman", but can't shirk from my duties as Leige.I also start a plot to Kill him.
Oct. 1136,My daughter Godgifu is born....I am happy i wanted a daughter.
Jan. 1137,My Kinsman King Osric I of Castille calls us to arms versus King Estevao I of Galicia. I call up the entire Army to fight this war,hoping to also be able to fight the Saracen Hordes......
Feb. 1137,Mayor Sigeraed, my old mentor dies. My Son needs a new Guardian, I find one my GREAT-GRANDMOTHER who at 85 is still alive.
Dec. 1137, The War with Galicia ends with English help.Since the Atfasids invaded Galicia.I send home the levies and Declare a Holy War for Beja against them.To help save the Galicians from the infidel......Galicians surrender 2 days later.
Jan. 1138, English Army is reraised and Transported to Iberia....need to win enough battles and capture enough holdings to get them to accept a White Peace.(I don't like these lands.....they are nothing like England)
November 1138, Prince Eadgar comes of Age, I look for a bride......behold Queen Bethoc I of Scotland.If she accepts "Normal" marriage, I will even help save her Crown.(Being a medeival dynast)
Jan. 1139, I join her war against Lulach of Moray.I hire the Templars to fight in Iberia. I then send the English Army home from iberia.Demobilize the vassals.I then Using personal levies and Retinue head for Scotland.
By May 1139, We have conquered enough of Beja to get a White Peace.This is good because those Templars are expensive.
June 1139, Lulach surrenders to Queen Bethoc because English Army defeats his in battle and liberates Bethoc's captured holdings.
June 1142, fufilled ambition for Wealth.I create the Duchy of Somerset and give it to Earl Eadward of Winchester.This makes him end his faction for my throne.
July 1142, My Kinsman King Osric calls us to Arms again....this time against Prince Alphonso Jimena.
August 1143, The Steward dies and I replace him with Aethelbeorcht of Norfolk, he is forced to resign a month later by losing his Duchy.I replace him with the New Duke Wulfhere.

It's gonna be tricky if I don't get to Choose the guardian of young Eanbeorcht.........The Scottish Queen is the most worthless character I have seen.......but At least she was a Queen!

I am King Eadgar II of England, and King Consort of Scotland.

March 1148,Queen Bethoc becomes known as the "Drunkard".....I never noticed her ever overindulging during feasts.........
June 1149,I decide to expand the realm since my Chancellor has "convinced" people I should be Earl of Ulster.
July 1149, I declare War for what is rightfully mine.
Oct. 1149, Chancellor fabricates a claim on County of Oriel.
Jan. 1150, Duke Lulach of the Isles starts another Civil War for the Scottish throne.
May 1150, Battle of Pitlochry,between the personal levies of King Eadgar II and Duke Lulach's forces. Devastating English Victory.
Aug. 1150,The war for Ulster ends. I marry my half brother Aethamar Wake to a genius and give him Ulster as a wedding gift.
Dec. 1150, I send the Earl of Oriel a Christmas gift ......I declare War.
Jan. 1151, Duke Lulach surrenders to my wife.Queen Bethoc of Scotland.
April 1152, My son Harold is born.
June 1152, Earl of Oriel surrenders.......I make my Uncle Saelraed the new Earl.I then invite his son to my court and marry him to a good woman....he had been Court Chaplain of Dorset, poor fellow.
Sep. 1152,I fullfilled Wealth ambition....
I then decide to plot to revoke Warwick from the New Duke of Oxford.
Nov. 1152. My sister Godgifu comes of age,I marry her off to King Ludolf of Bohemia.
Dec. 1152, Again Just in time for Christmas, i send a "Gift" this time a revocation letter to the Duke of Oxford.He rejects it and I declare War.
Aug. 1153, Prince Eormenric needs a Guardian.I name Sighelm, Duke of Somerset guardian.
Jan. 1154,The Duke of Oxford surrenders Warwick.I try to imprison him, He escapes War is renewed.It doesn't last long....and he take his rightful place in the dungeon.I also revoke the County of Chester from him.I find some ambitious petty nobleman give it to him and then transfer vassalage back to the Duke of Lancaster.
Sep. 1154, My Spymaster dies.....i replace him with Uncle Saelred.
Jan. 1155,My brother Eadwulf comes of age,I marry him to Padriga, Countess of Vannes.
Feb. 1157,Queen Bethoc dies of pneumonia......(got drunk again and passed out in snowbank)My son Eanbeorct becomes King.I marry Eadhhildh Wake matilinearally so I know their a Cadet Branch.
Oct. 1157,My brother Prince Ealdmund comes of age,I marry him to Countess Svanhild of Savo.
Sep. 1158,Hold a Tournament
July 1159,My son starts a War over Caithness with Scotland.I happily join him and head for the Norwegian Capital Iceland.
Mar. 1161, Scotland wins the War for Caithness.
May. 1161, I lift the excommunication on my son.

My son finally gets married.After trying to matchmake for him.He ends up marrying a Norwegian Princess.(Who said AI only married lowborn gold diggers)

Sep. 1168,Prince Eormenric's 2nd wife dies.....I decide to find him an unlanded one with good martial stat.I then marry Prince Harold to a a Muirebe relation with good stewardship to give King Eornbeorct in the future.....
Feb. 1169,Countess Padriga calls us to War for Brittany......With our help she wins.....
May 1170, I fabricate a claim on county of Connacht. I can't use it until late 1175 because of a truce......
Dec 1170,I declare War for Uncle Saelraed's claim on Dublin.
Feb. 1171, Uncle Saelraed dies of illness.....a shame.
Sep. 1171,Princess Winfrida is betrothed to David, Duke of Moray.
Feb. 1172,The war for Brittany is over.....
Sep. 1172, My distant kinsman the King of Castille calls us to Arms versus the Infidel.I call up the whole realm to help out.

No plans to murder the scottish queen.......Bethoc died......and the current King(Eanbeorct) has now inherited both thrones......I'm more worried about the future......Eadgar III is SCOTTISH...I wasn't allowed to appoint a guardian and some how when I plotted to murder the guardian......he lived forever.......even with 100+% plot power.
The Empire is in sight......just need to become pious......(what fun is that)
Since we have so much Norwegian Royal blood......in the Dynasty.....I think long term plans will include uniting the Scandanavian world......under a SAXON Emperor!
PS:I have already played the beginning of next reign.........lots of political manuevering to keep the throne.(just to get vassals to like me)

I wish I was a good at narrative stuff as you are(@DensleyBlair).......mine is just matter of fact gameplay reporting.
Thank you All I would say is that the AARs are very different styles - what's nice about yours is the clarity and speed with hich you take us through your game. Sometimes you don't need a long narrative to get across what's happening, and sometimes it just isn't appropriate. My story, for example, has so far covered two months of history - and then only about four days of those months - whereas you have covered 114 years. I think as long as people are enjoying what you put out (and I am) then you shouldn't worry about the specifics of the content too much. Besides, of you want to do a narrative, you could always do something completely different after this a - maybe play as a count or an earl to give you more of a chance to write about the inner workings of the court in absence of any real action (see signature ) I'm sure whatever you'd put out there would be good

CHAPTER VI Reign of King Eornbeorht I "The Ill-Ruler" (1180-1189)
I am King Eornbeorht I, King of England and Scotland, My Scottish subjects.......don't like me and gave me the terrible sobriquet.(Mostly because I didn't become Scottish,Who wants to wear a plaid skirt anyways)I've been King of Scotland since I was old enough to go to school.Now I have inherited My Father's Great Kingdom of SAXON England.
July 1180,Prince Eadgar comes of age.(unfortunately he like wearing skirts)I immediately find a suitable bride for him.Princess Perinne of France.(I'm not sure why she is considered attractive.Maybe she's really good at the "French" Arts)As I am way over my desmesne limit and my vassals are really angry about it.I start sorting out the mess.I give every notable vassal a gift of gold.
Prince Eadgar is made Duke of Lothian and given Lothian and Dunbar as personal holdings.
I destroy the Duchy of Bedford.......
I make my half brother Wihtraed,Earl of Innse Gall.
I make my brother Harold, Earl of Hereford, after giving the County of Warwick to some petty nobleman. I make him Duke of Hereford.Thus assuring his loyalty.
I make Sigehelm a Brave Warrior, Earl of Ormond.
I usurp the Duchy of Connacht, give it to my Brother Eormenric, the Marshal and then press his De Jure Claim to Breifne.
I then make Westminster my Capital and Kingdom of England my primary.(Yes,I get short reign penalties, but England is bigger and has more numerous Vassals)
With The desmesne under control for the most part and threats of rebellion.......pacified for time being...We get to Call to Arms from our Allies.
Shortly after the wedding reception,(and before my son deflowers her)Princess Perinne gives me a letter from her father.Asking me to help him in his war against his biggest vassal,the Duke of Valois.(SuperDuke, and son or Grandson of last Capetian King)I accept.
After that We receive a missive from my Father in law.the King of Norway.It seems the Kaiser has become a Heretic(Cathar) and has declared Holy War for Pommerainia.
1180-1184 We did nothing and watched the War from the sidelines.
STATE OF THE WORLD (1184)
HRE:HRE Emperor has become a HERETIC and is fighting an offensive War for Pommerainia and against an Independence movement.
France:Is in the midst of a Civil War for the Crown between the Capets and De Blois.We support the De Blois King is my son-in -law.
Iberia:The moslems only big state left is ATfasid Emirate.They are only still there because France and HRE(which have moved into Iberia) are busy on their respective Homefronts.
Persia:The Seljuks have been replaced by another Dynasty and they are also Sunni Caliphs.
Egypt:The Yousifids are now the Sultan's of Egypt.(based in Damascus)The Fatimids are still the Shia Caliphs.Egypt now owns Apulia and a Crusade for Italy failed.
ERE:Are subject to a Fatimid Invasion of Greece.
January 1184:Since my vassals are not totally happy with me. I call up all their levies required by law.(leaving my bodyguard and personal levies undrafted)for foreign service.Since we are Defending against Heretics nobody will get unhappy about being away from home.
I create 5 5k stacks and give command to the local dukes.3 of the 5 stacks land in Normandy and Flanders to turn the tide of the War in favor of the French King.
The other 2 stacks are sent to Provence, the new HRE Capital.This war is slowly being won by my Allies(Sweden,Norway,and Poland)We are just gonna help finish it off.
Alot of sieges and a few assaults mark both wars.
Mar. 1186, Both foreign Interventions come to an end.
July.My Father in Law Norway calls us to help him against disloyal vassals wanting to curb his Authority.
November 1186,ROME FELL to the Moslems......the Pope still owns the Vatican.
January 1187,A grandson is born named Donald.....
May-June 1187, vassals getting restless again, forming factions etc.I "gift" them all over again and Factions Disband.(only Faction remaining Duke David of Moray for Scotland.Only my Spymaster Earl of Fife is a member)
August 1187,Prince Swaefraed needs a guardian, I name Eanfirth,Mayor of London guardian.
May 1188,I remember the French prisoners in my Dungeon.I release the lowborn one to seem merciful by my vasssals.The Count of Ameins is ransomed.
My piety has soared since helping out with the Holy War against the Heretic Emperor.I am thinking That Christendom needs a New Emperor to Defend it from All Enemies........listening to the myths of the peasants especially the one from Wales.Britain has had Emperors before.....the Dream of Macsen Wledig(Magnus Maximus,383-388) and the national hero Arthyr who fought my forefathers.A British Emperor to Save Rome and Christendom.........is making me beleive......
August 1188,Prince Aebeorht comes of Age,I marry him to Princess Agnes of Bavaria.
November 1188,Prince Hrodbeorht needs a guardian,I hand him off to one of my Scottish vassals.Duke Ingram of Galloway.(I will need all of my vassals in the coming days)
January 2,1189, I have myself crowned Emperor of Britannia at Canterbury.I also proclaim myself Defender of the Faith........(even if I'm a little skeptical)DEUS VULT!
Thus ends ends my reign as King of England.

I make my half brother Wihtraed,Earl of Innse Gall.
I make my brother Harold, Earl of Hereford, after giving the County of Warwick to some petty nobleman. I make him Duke of Hereford.Thus assuring his loyalty.
I make Sigehelm a Brave Warrior, Earl of Ormond.
I usurp the Duchy of Connacht, give it to my Brother Eormenric, the Marshal and then press his De Jure Claim to Breifne.
I then make Westminster my Capital and Kingdom of England my primary.(Yes,I get short reign penalties, but England is bigger and has more numerous Vassals)
With The desmesne under control for the most part and threats of rebellion.......pacified for time being...We get to Call to Arms from our Allies.
Shortly after the wedding reception,(and before my son deflowers her)Princess Perinne gives me a letter from her father.Asking me to help him in his war against his biggest vassal,the Duke of Valois.(SuperDuke, and son or Grandson of last Capetian King)I accept.
After that We receive a missive from my Father in law.the King of Norway.It seems the Kaiser has become a Heretic(Cathar) and has declared Holy War for Pommerainia.
1180-1184 We did nothing and watched the War from the sidelines.
STATE OF THE WORLD (1184)
HRE:HRE Emperor has become a HERETIC and is fighting an offensive War for Pommerainia and against an Independence movement.
France:Is in the midst of a Civil War for the Crown between the Capets and De Blois.We support the De Blois King is my son-in -law.
Iberia:The moslems only big state left is ATfasid Emirate.They are only still there because France and HRE(which have moved into Iberia) are busy on their respective Homefronts.
Persia:The Seljuks have been replaced by another Dynasty and they are also Sunni Caliphs.
Egypt:The Yousifids are now the Sultan's of Egypt.(based in Damascus)The Fatimids are still the Shia Caliphs.Egypt now owns Apulia and a Crusade for Italy failed.
ERE:Are subject to a Fatimid Invasion of Greece.
January 1184:Since my vassals are not totally happy with me. I call up all their levies required by law.(leaving my bodyguard and personal levies undrafted)for foreign service.Since we are Defending against Heretics nobody will get unhappy about being away from home.
I create 5 5k stacks and give command to the local dukes.3 of the 5 stacks land in Normandy and Flanders to turn the tide of the War in favor of the French King.
The other 2 stacks are sent to Provence, the new HRE Capital.This war is slowly being won by my Allies(Sweden,Norway,and Poland)We are just gonna help finish it off.
Alot of sieges and a few assaults mark both wars.
Mar. 1186, Both foreign Interventions come to an end.
July.My Father in Law Norway calls us to help him against disloyal vassals wanting to curb his Authority.
November 1186,ROME FELL to the Moslems......the Pope still owns the Vatican.
January 1187,A grandson is born named Donald.....
May-June 1187, vassals getting restless again, forming factions etc.I "gift" them all over again and Factions Disband.(only Faction remaining Duke David of Moray for Scotland.Only my Spymaster Earl of Fife is a member)
August 1187,Prince Swaefraed needs a guardian, I name Eanfirth,Mayor of London guardian.
May 1188,I remember the French prisoners in my Dungeon.I release the lowborn one to seem merciful by my vasssals.The Count of Ameins is ransomed.
My piety has soared since helping out with the Holy War against the Heretic Emperor.I am thinking That Christendom needs a New Emperor to Defend it from All Enemies........listening to the myths of the peasants especially the one from Wales.Britain has had Emperors before.....the Dream of Macsen Wledig(Magnus Maximus,383-388) and the national hero Arthyr who fought my forefathers.A British Emperor to Save Rome and Christendom.........is making me beleive......
August 1188,Prince Aebeorht comes of Age,I marry him to Princess Agnes of Bavaria.
November 1188,Prince Hrodbeorht needs a guardian,I hand him off to one of my Scottish vassals.Duke Ingram of Galloway.(I will need all of my vassals in the coming days)
January 2,1189, I have myself crowned Emperor of Britannia at Canterbury.I also proclaim myself Defender of the Faith........(even if I'm a little skeptical)DEUS VULT!
Thus ends ends my reign as King of England.

Kill him! :glare: (<-- that was meant to be a shifty looking character...) Or, just make sure that his heir is educated by a nice Saxon
Maybe......He does have a Son....Now....but I like helping my allies.....Hopefully someone starts a Faction for him to become King of Scotland or something.....I want justifiable homicide or Kinslaying.
The current Character is basically a good guy and would have a hard time killing a son.(His Scottish Vassals dislike him and he them)And Prince Eadgar is a decent sort......he just likes wearing Plaid Skirts...
I am not trying to be a dispassionate power behind the throne or guiding hand of a "country" aka EU3.
So Yes,I exploit the Game mechanics to the max, but only if it makes sense for the Character....

If you notice I haven't had a Faction War yet........I wonder how all these other players are having problems with them.The only time anyone rebels(so far) is when I send a revocation letter.And my Rulers haven't been Super either.
It's probably just as well. I played a game as France (for my AAR, actually) and Aquitaine would always drag everyone else into massive wars. The only good thing to come out of rebellions when they happen en masse is the opinion bonus with vassal for putting down a massive rebellion...
