My PC is five years old, custom game rig. It has always given me some problems since it's inception. First issue happened before it was even built, when the parts arrived the mother board was damaged. After I got it replaced and the PC put together, after about a month a random power spike fried the power source. After I got that replaced it was ok for about a year, and then one day I got a massive amount of error messages out of no where and the damn thing crashed. After that was repaired I went through a period where I would get blue screens for no apparent reason, they eventually stopped on their own.

With Stellaris a week away I hold my breath every time I turn it on. It has been quite sometime since it last gave me a serious problem, but I know it's just bidding its time. Waiting for a moment to strike with one final insult. I fully expect the thing to give up the ghost for good at some point in the next week, I will be very paranoid after Stellaris finishes installing next Monday, fully expecting a final crash to occur as soon as I hit play after setting up my race, empire and galaxy. Either that or I will just not have the system requirements to run the thing. Which I do doubt since I am abel to run some games that have come out recently, such as Xcom 2.

Nah I've sent it in for repair, if i tried to fix it myself I'd void the warranty, which i would rather not do just yet.

And at least you can still watch the streams tomorrow and the day after I'm stuck here in "no fun land" until it's fixed.

And exam season is coming up for me soon... fuck my life. (still, not being able to play Stellaris is the bigger pain)

I've been around computers since before "personal" computers existed. I used to help my dad feed the punch cards into the IBM system 3 that did the payroll at the plant where he worked. Of course since HIS father owned the plant, there was no problem with this 6 year old in the data center. It was far less dangerous than when they let me drive these on their laps I remember helping him take the top off our brand new Apple to insert a card that would let it display lowercase. I remember when we switched to PC (compatible), and all the peripherals (and cards) you needed to play with.

Needless to say, I build my own systems. The first thing I do is void the warranty - lol

Anyway there's a school of thought that states that electronics are at their most vulnerable when you switch them on due to weird power surges and resonance happening in the circuits in the first microseconds at power up. If you can afford the electricity - maybe just leave your rig running until May 9th?
