I've played CK for a while, and fairly recently decided to download DV and experiment with it. Getting readjusted to the game, I stuck to some of the easier dynasties to start out with. In one of my failed starts as the Duke of Bohemia 1066, I noticed something weird going on. When the HRE entered its typical "collapse into a collection of duchies while the von Frankens sit and do nothing" phase of the game, France started picking up a whole ton of the duchies, ending up with land bordering Poland, and even picking up an English count or two along the way.

I wrote that off as a strange one-off event until today. As Leon, I've played for about 50 years. The phenomenon of randomly pledging to any monarch with a pulse seems to have continued leading to strange behavior including, but not limited to:
Croatia having much of Wales as vassals
Navarre controlling no land in Spain, but substantial portions of France, England, Italy, and Germany, while holding court in Prague
Germany having Galicia and Porto as vassals for a short time
The Kingdom of Poland being ruled by an Archbishop, and for a time only holding territory in the Italian peninsula
Duchies in the south of France vassals to the Swedish crown
The Byzantine Empire vassalizing all the Rurikovich duchies, claiming the crown of Rus, and now under Rurikovich control
All of Muslim Spain not conquered early on pledged to Zirid, Hammadid, and the Seljuks.

Is this normal in DV? Is there a way to prevent this, as by now the map has become an unworkable mess of kingdoms splattered Jason Pollack-style across the map?
Thanks
