War for the South: The begining
Last days of March 2007

In the Spring 2007, American Union State started with very aggressive policy in it's neighbourhood. It was obvious that AUS leadership is becoming very brave due to German support. In this time, American Union state strenghtened it's defense capacities a lot. American Union Navy received state of the art improvements from German naval technician teams(this aid was offered as compensation for use of AUS naval and air bases by German forces). Three fleet carriers of American Union Navy(USS Huey Pierce Long, USS Minuteman and USS New Orleans) were brought to standards of rival navies in the region, technologically even outmatching carriers of Combined Syndicates Navy. Two outdated light cruisers, sister ships commonly known as ''Charles&Charles''(USS Charles Coughlin and USS Charles Lindbergh) also received some changes that made them equal to their counterparts in rival navies. Four existing destroyers(USS Fritz Julius Kuhn, USS George Patton, USS Kurtis LeMay and USS Henry Ford) were improved and accompanied by seven brand new destroyers(USS Prescott Sheldon Bush, USS Joseph Kennedy, USS Atlanta, USS Richmond, USS Miami, USS Norfolk and USS Undivisionable). Unkown number of new submarines and various small vessels was also constructed or purchased abroad. Commander of Union State Air Force General Granger was proud to have his collection of aircraft of home production being joined with some fine foreign pieces, like Messerschmitt Taifun fighters and Paneuropa Tornado strike fighters. Granger also wanted to order some Heinkel strategic bombers, but limited budget prevented his ambitious plans. Ground forces were also modernized and expanded. Some Leopard 2 tanks were purchased, altough AUS was more interested in using Leopard technology in their Crusader tanks. By combining technology of Leopard and Crusader, new tank was developed by Ford company. It was named Paladin MBT. This heavy tank amused even Germans who secretely started to experimentally manufacture tanks similar to Paladin: Germans named it Liger.

It was never discovered what brought leadership of American Union State to such drastic decision. Some say that Germans were pushing on their American friends to take out the Neo-Confederate Southern Commonwealth that was approaching Entente. Others say that Germans knew the risk of consqeuences that would cause such action in North America, and tried to keep American Union State of the troubles. However, border scratches and provocations turned into full-scale invasion of American Union Army on nation of Southern Commonwealth. But Canadians who were carefully observing situation had their plans. They knew German interests in North America and dangerous rise of American Union State was major threat to Canada. Canadians decided to risk: They had to stop AUS now, or it would be too late. First Soutern Commonwealth, then USA, American Union State would also come for Canada one day. This Canadian action could trigger new world war, but it was worth to risk. As protector of independence of Southern Commonwealth, Canada honoured it's duty. However, this decision didn't drag entire Entente into this war, as most of members saw this conflict as ''Canadian private war''.

acw_2.jpg

National France that just came out of major internal crisis and still faced high dissent among citizens also decided to stay out of this mess. Algiers followed the decision of most of Entente nations and declared neutrality in this conflict. However, French republic decided to sent some observers to North America, as French leaders were interested what could be learned from the American way of war.

acw_4.jpg

Decision of other Entente members wasn't really disappointing for Canadians. They know Germans will this way hope that American Union State can achieve it's goal, destruction of Southern Commonwealth, and force Canadians to sue for peace. It would be even better for Berlin if AUS could use it's technological advantages that were achieved with German help to score some naval victories against Royal Navy and use the power of American Union Air Force to beat Royal Air Force in the Southern skies. Canadian preditions proved to be right: Germans really trusted into strength of AUS forces and canceled chance of any potential serious intervention. They only sent additional aid to their friends in North America.

acw_3.jpg

Canadians were glad to have avoided world wide conflict, but situation was still not bright for them. American Union State possessed magnificent power, their forces were large and armed with modern equipment. But Canada had to protect Southern Commonwealth. Strong RAF detachments were sent to prevent AUS domination of Southern skies, and Royal Navy searched for enemy in the seas. Canadians combined strong strike group and assigned fleet carrier HMCS Iroquois, pride of Canadian navy, as command ship of this group. Core of Canadian strike group contained three fleet carriers: Already mentioned HMCS Iroquois, HMCS Halifax and HMCS Victoria). They were escorted by several other surface ships.

I'm kind of disappointed that almost everyone except Canada, Texas, and the US (?) are not fighting the AUS, but it does make sense, unless you have a massive Navy and reason to fight, it would make no sense to.

Come on Texas, this is your chance to shine! Chuck Norris needs more land to protect!

I don't think Texas is doomed. IIRC, some of its provinces should be urban, and those will grind any AUS attack into dust. Its sad that pretty much the entire Entente, including National France, is not going to help the Texans. I just hope the Canadian and Texan forces combined will be enough to stop that madman Rumsfeld, or things in North America will be destined to become very hard indeed.

I think strategically it's rather foolish not for even one nation to join the war in aid of Canada, especially National France which could of used it like the Germans used the Spanish Civil War historically. See how their new formations fair in real combat. Adding to that if you could get a Texas (that has annexed AUS or not) to join the Entente well, that would be great. But nonetheless, awesome AAR

I wonder if there's going to be any internal trouble within the Entente in the future? I can't see it being a very effective alliance if its members can pick and choose which members they want to defend. The AUS undoubtedly has the advantage over Texas but defeat is not certain- it's all going to depend on how effective Canadian support is and how much they want/are able to commit to its defence.

War for the South: Situation on the sea is decided
April 2007

Main force of the AUS assault was concentrated on Texan capital. This proved to be a bad decision from American Union State as Texans let the enemies to move into urban areas of Houston and Dallas where elite army units and Texas Rangers ambushed them. This successful plan was proposed by minister of the interior Carlos Ray Norris, who was also the supreme commander of Rangers. After failure of the first offensive, American Union Army pushed into less defended Oklahoma. Defenders were pushed out by superior AUS forces.

acw_9.jpg

AUS_Typhoon.jpg

Messerschmitt Taifun of American Union Air Force. None of the sides didn't achieve air superiority over the South. American Union Air Force outnumbered combined Canadian expeditionary air corps and air force of Southern Commonwealth. It seemed that bitter dogfights will never end.

But in the middle of April, another shock happened in North America. Everyone were aware that this conflict will cause broader consequenced, but nobody expected such a mess. Combined Syndicates of America used the chaos and launched invasion on their Southern neighbour. However, Syndicalist advance into AUS territory wasn't so swift as Syndicalist generals predicted, as AUS left it's Northern border well-guarded despite the war with Southern Commonwealth. Bigger problem was the Combined Syndicates Air Force that entered the show, and large Combined Syndicates Navy that joined the hunt for AUS ships. Fortunately for American Union State, it fought the war only with Combined Syndicates of America and not with entire Internationale, as Combined Syndicates declared they want to fight this war on their own, to settle accounts from the past.

acw_6.jpg

Situation changed a lot with entrance of Combined Syndicates into this war. American Union Air Force and American Union Navy had to battle three foes now, and Syndicalists were stubbornly assaulting AUS positions. This caused that AUS advance in Oklahoma was halted and Southern Commonwealth even managed to launch a successful counter-offensive to retake lost territories. Even more, turning tide boosted morale of Texans and their forces soon captured New Orleans.

acw_11.jpg

Then the final show on the sea happened. American Union Navy that was playing hide-and-seek and took part only in accidental minor schratches and duels before, lured the Syndicalist strike group somewhere in the half way between Florida and Bahamas, stopped running, turned around and then attacked Syndicalists with full force. This unpleasant surprise was a bloody nose for Syndicalists, as they lost one fleet carrier and two pocket carriers. However, with Bahamas being part of Caribbean Federation, Canadians found their Caribbean allies very helpful despite their neutrality in this war. Listening outpost with advanced instruments for naval and air detection on the one of islands of Bahamas discovered AUS fleet and informed Canadian navy that was nearby about it. Bitter combat that followed brought sweet victory for Canadians: All enemy aircraft carriers were sunk, together with one of destroyers. Canadian ships suffered only light damage. AUS fleet was now weakened, scattered, and knocked out of play.

acw_12.jpg

United States of America observed the conflict in their neighbourhood with caution. President Petraeus ordered army to be ready and on alert. War in North America was still in the full swing. Despite some bitter defeats, American Union State was still capable of dangerous actions and efficient defense.

A glorious day for her majesty's Royal Canadian fleet! 3 AUS carriers destroyed, thats a crushing blow that they will never be able to recover from.

It is indeed very disturbing that the CSA has joined the war. However, if the Confederacy can seize enough of the AUS before the syndies can, then things will be much more positive. Hell, maybe the AUS could be convinced to accept Confederate rule to protect the south from Syndicalist domination?

Great update. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for more.
