Introduction
Welcome all old and newcomers to my first ever AAR! I'm going to play as Italy and it has been twenty-one years since they entered the first World War on the Allies. Italy signed the secret pact, Treaty of London, after they were promised land (that had Italian speaking peoples in it). They did as the treaty promised, fight their old allies: Germany and Austria-Hungary.By the end of the war, the death tolls built up to 651,000 deaths and 953,886 wounded and the Allies only sent 1-5 divisions to the Italian Front, which angered Italy. Not only that, but at the Treaty of Versailles, they were declined the land, that the Treaty of London listed. Twenty-one years later, and Italy wants the land, that they were promised and payback on the three countries, that promised Italy for land and: France, Great Britain, and Russia. And they are ready to attack others nation, that comes to stop Italy for completing their goals. But first, they must make friends with the enemy, that got them into this mess: Germany.

Part One: Preaping for Operation Recupero

Introduction

Victor Emmanuel III of Italy sat back in his chair and looked at a painting of Victor Emmanuel II, the king of a united Italy. His title was called Padre della Patria (Father of the Homeland) because there wasn't a united Italy since the sixth century and he became the symbol of the Italian "Risorgimento" (the Italian unification movement) during the 1850s and early 60's. Emmanuel III wanted to be like his grandfather and his father, Umberto I, didn't spread time with his child like other fathers would but he gave him this advice: "Remember: to be a king, all you need to know is how to sign your name, read a newspaper, and mount a horse". Either known his father was assassinated, Emmanuel III still stands for a commitment to constitutional government and freedoms. He hated the day-to-day stresses of Italian politics, though the country's chronic political instability and had to intervene no fewer than ten times during the twenty-two years on the throne.

When World War I began, he declared his country to be neutral at first, but then, Emmanuel III personally made the decision for Italy to enter the war and join the Triple Entente. He was against what he perceived as an inefficient political bourgeoisie due to the corrupt and disorganized war effort, the stunning loss of life suffered by the Italian army, especially at the great defeat of Caporetto, and the Post–World War I recession. He visited the various areas of northern Italy suffering repeated strikes and mortar hits from elements of the fighting there, where he demonstrated considerable courage and care in personally visiting many people. It was at this time that he enjoyed genuine affection from the majority of his people.

After the world war, an economic depression swept all over the nations (that were in the war) and it caused the increase of extremism among the sorely tried working classes of Italy, which caused the country as a whole to become politically unstable. That's when the title of "Re vittorioso" (Victorious King) became useless to him. The rise of Fascist was getting out of control and the rumors of a possible coup had began to rise along the King and the introduction of Mussolini caused Emmanuel III to lose the monarchy. Mussolini became his second hand man and help with the political decisions, which caused Emmanuel III to declare war on Ethiopia on October 3, 1935.

He was still sitting on his chair and waited for someone to come by the doors and heard footsteps. Emmanuel III stool up and waited until the guards opened the door and it was Benito Mussolini standing there with wine. He smiled as he entered the room and said, "The New Year is on the way, aren't you happy?" and Emmanuel III turned to him and said, "I'm happy, it is that I was thinking of what to do next.". They sat down and Mussolini pulled the wine bottle to the glasses and then he put down the bottle and said, "You got me to help out with the decisions and besides it is almost twelve.". Emmanuel III then picked the wine glass and looked at it and said, "I hope this wine isn't American-made wine." and they both laughed at the joke, either the guards silently laughed.

The clock in the room said it was eleven fifty-nine and the men in the room got their wine glasses and Mussolini said, "To a good year for the both of us-" and then Emmanuel III followed, "And to the Italian people all over Eupore.". They crashed their glasses as the clock struck at twelve and fireworks were heard outside and they began to drink their wine. It was the beginning of a new year for the world, but changes are coming to Italy for the greater good.

Part 1: Dealing with Ethiopia

On the first day of January, Mussolini went to the army stationed at Rome and inspected them, anything from weapons to their clothing. Mussolini went to a captain and asked, "Where is De Bono at?" and then the captain said, "He's in his office, overlooking papers. I'll take you to him.". The captain showed him to De Bono's office and knocked on the door, "Sir, someone is here to see you." and De Bono put down his papers and said, "He can wait for me to be done.". Mussolini walked up to the door and then said, "You better make time then." then they heard De Bono putting the papers down and rushing to the door. "Sorry Mussolini, I though you were another captain." and then Mussolini said, "We need to talk about Ethiopia. In private." and the captain left as he closed the door and rushed back to his men.

Emilio De Bono, a solider that forgot in WW1 and was now the Minister of Colonial Affairs, he stood by the door and said, "Sit down and we can talk about it.". Mussolini walked to the chair and sat down as he said, "Your old plans for Ethiopia are alright, but I want to end this war as soon as possible.". De Bono got his pen and a map of Ethiopia out and said, "Well, we could maybe... no It's too risky." and Mussolini said, "What's too risky?" then De Bono turned the map and said, "We could encircle Addis Ababa by capturing their borders so they can't trade with Britain and France. But, It would cost lots of supplies and money and would take weeks to capture an area.". Mussolini said, "Go ahead with this encirclement plan, it would be interesting to see how it would work. Also, I already got some troops in Eritrea and Enrico Caviglia is commanding the Tobruch."

De Bono said, "You already sent troops? How did you do it without Emmanuel knowing?" and Mussolini said, "I just took a couple of papers, that Caviglia sent from Tripoli and I approved his request on getting more troops.". Mussolini got up from his chair and said, "You're also promoted to Comando Superiore. I'll tell Emmanuel about it and let him give you papers, that have reports of every unit in Italy." and he opened the door and left the office. De Bono smiled as heard that he was promoted and grabbed his papers once more and kept reading them.

Mussolini inspecting the troops on a sunny day in Rome

It was the second day of January when Emmanuel got news that France declared The Popular Front, which introduced new labor laws and united the government. Emmanuel and Mussolini didn't care about the Front as it didn't affect Italy in anyway, but then Mussolini ordered Caviglia to move his troop into Ethiopia.

Yes! I agree! Italian AARs are always fun, since Italy has always been of my favorite "middle-tier" powers to play as. It's always fun to see an Italy try and actually accomplish Il Duce's fantasy! Also, if you are to continue this, welcome to AAR writing! Best of luck.

Cheers!
