Don Forster sits drinking wine and eating cheese with the honorable V Gen Lombardi. My brother, you must wait out the play of this game. If you react too soon, or when it turned out to be unnecessary, you will cause far more harm than anything else. Have your men ready, but keep them busy practicing a parade, or some other honorific activity.
Send your fastest runner to my home. Even if they are found guilty of heresy, there will be time before any punishment is meted out.

If the inquisition turns to torture, or if it looks like they will try to use the mob to lynch them, I will dispatch your runner to you right away. Nothing will happen to them if we do this. IF you act too early, a civil war will erupt, with the Church on one side and the Senate on the other. This will destroy us. Will you agree to this?

Hehe Doge Xanadu shouldn't be forbidding a general from doing something. I believe at one time in history, somebody forbade a certain general from crossing a river with his army. That river i believe was called the Rubicon and the general was named Julius Caesar. You know what happened after that. :D

The other senators

The italian senate is very big, encompassing nobles from every province to represent their lands in the senate government. So there are many other NPC voices we never hear. Here i will shed some light on what the other senators think of the current situation.

65% of NPC senators favor the Popes cleaning out of heretics in Italy and elsewhere though not necessarily by war.

30% are against the Pope bringing his religious practices into the government body.

66% of NPC senators approve of Doge By-Tor thus far while others question his policies.

22% of NPC senators want war against Turkey and to start a crusade.

45% of NPC senators want to improve relations with Spain and/or Austria to begin healing in europe.

this is just to give our players an idea of how the rest of the government body feels about current events. how does this effect you or the game? STABILITY! its the only way i have to gauge unity or friction in the republic.

stability will remain +3 for now, but if things start to get hairy expect it to effect national stability, ill make sure you are all informed.

Well I don't mind if my character is used for conversation sake.

But...if used just to "work an angle"..well lets just say the Doge will be very upset

Rober McCollum was no fool, although he certianly suspected that many here currently thought he was. That was fine, after all was it not Emperor Claudius who was able to survive Neros purges by playing the fool? Sometimes the wisest man was the one thought a fool.

In fact, McCollum's seeming complacency was built on a very sound principle. That was that the Pope had prepared for this court well and would have known nearly anything about his past that he had already revealed. If he had tried to hide his past, the Pope would have bludgeoned him with it, there was no doubt of that.

One of the first rules of warfare, is that if you deprive your enemy of a weapon, it will give them a shock, and you will be able to use that time to manuver. Robert had no doubt that the Pope had other weapons, of course, and that the man would attempt to get to him with some other tactic.

So be it. Of course, if Robert made himself look more symmpathetic: the honest Christian who admtis to wrong doings, he may just play to the mob. TBack in Claudius' time the mob ruled Rome, and he had little doubt that the same could be true now as well. He also doubted the Pope would wish to destroy a man that had gaiend the sympathy of the mob, at least that was worth a shot. If it didn't work, well, he woudl be dead anyway and his causes with it. Better to try something and, at the very least, save his family's reputation.

With this in mind Robert looked up, slowly nibbling the peice of cheese that he wished to devour and said. "Of course I renounce all heresies", and meant every word of it. Of course, there was that question of over wether he felt he was in the middle of a herecy at the moment...that question was left unaswered.

Lombadi looked over the table at Forster and nodded to himself. Yes, this man spoke wisly. Thinking for a few moments he took a sip of his coffee. Looking grim he nodded again "Yes, I beleive you are right. Rash action is rarly good, better to plan things out first. After all, you only call a Hail Mary when you've got nothing else to loose, I suppose"

Forster nods, although not able to really catch on to the last referance in the statment. He shrugs, having gotten the jist of the statment at the very least. "So, you'll act peacfully, and wait for my messanger?"

Lombardi nodded "Yes I will. I believe The Republuican Gaurds needs to go on some military manubers and marching lessons. Perhaps I'll just have to be good enough to march them within eyeshot of the Vatican, but we will not attack. Although you had better keep more than just one messanger, he might be intercepted. Also, make sure you have loyal men stationed at the gates to let in the Gaurd, should the worst come to occure"

Lombardi watched Forster flinch for a second. "No, don't worry, my men here are the best trained in Italy, they shall ot loot, and shall show the upmost respect to the city, the city of Rome that is."

"The Vatican?"

"That depends if they let my Commander go, doesn't it? We will win though. I would prefer not to harm anyone during this but....", he trailed off before continuing. "After all, winning isn't everything it is the ONLY thing."

Forster nodded sullenly and got up to leave. As he prepared to do so the General spoke up once more. "And Seantor, we do appreciate your help. Thank you"

Gretta McCollum was cold and shaken, her hand trembled as she held them irror up to her face. It was true, her worst fears were true. She was pregnant....again. Tears streaming down her face, she began to wonder why this always happened to her at such a bad time. First Donal, during the "War of Hungarian Agression", then Gertrude during the prior crisis with the Pope, and now this.

To make matters worse, Gretta was well into her Early 40's, far to old to be goign through this again. HAd her own mother not died while giving birth to her younger brother at around this age? Leaving the family estates with only Donal or Gertrude to care for them, as well as another sibling, made her blood go cold. Not that the the girl could not handle it, but because no one shoudl be forced with that burden. Expecially should soemthing terrible happen to Robert.

Oh Robert, how she missed him. His face, his rough hands, even that little curce in the small of his back that just drove her crazy. They had both been so young when they first met, she the daughter to the Bavarian king and sister to his best friend, he heir to a rich Seantor from Italy; impulsive and arrogant, yes but a kind and gentle heart beneat it all. A heart that had been awakend upon the death of hsi brother, a conviction that he inherited from his father to do good in the world and for his country.

They had such plans, plans to grow old together, to spend peacful days out in the coutry after his retirement. God Dammit, they were to yougn to die, to much to live for, so much living to do. She cursed the Pope, she spit on the ground in revulsion to the man. It all almost made her wish she was a Protestant...and to think that she had done so much to convert him back to Catholism too!

Weeping bitter tears, she feel asleep in the bathroom and did not wake until midafternood. Her face stained by the salty trails from her eyes.

OOC: Nice to see you'll be in Wausau Warspite. Tis a nice place, although I don't work at the Airport, I work at the newspaper. Hey, do you ahve an e-mail address where I can contact you? I have a few ideas for this AAR that I wnated to discuss with you.

Also nice to see that someone got my Lombardi referancew. I wodner if you were really the first or not. *sigh* Packers RULE!!!!!! Hail Wisconsin!!!! ;)

Ai Sharur, we have somethign to agree on. The Cowboys are the epitome of evil, and must be eradicated. You know, I have a cousin who seriously proposed carpet bombing Texas with A-Bombs to get rid of them....a little extreme, but affective ;)

**Official Letter to General Lombardi from the office of the Doge**

Vice General Lombardi,

I must repeat myself on when I say do not enter the city. Our last conversation has left me in an awkward situation. On one hand you are an Italian soldier in an Italian Army loyal to the State , and obviously your commanding officer General McCollum. On the other hand I see a man who will forego rank and proclaim his unauthorized actions as righteous, and just in the face of authority.
Therefore I say that any action taken by you, or your men against my direct orders to not take action against the Pope, the City, the State, or the People of Italy in the attempt to "save" your General McCollum will be seen as treason, and punished to the fullest extent of the law. General McCollum is on trial at this moment consequently releasing control of his army. I am assume the command of his Army until either he is released, or a replacement is found.
I hope this letter finds the wisdom in you. It would be a shame to lose such an accoploshed soldier.

Doge By-Tor

Are you sure I thought it was more than that.

Of course he's sure, he gets to make up the stats for NPC's himself. :) We play our senators but Warspite, as GM, is incharge of all NPC's. Just cuz a majority of us player Senators favor war doesn't mean the NPC's do.
