Great Doge By-Tor, it is this humble senators perception upon this mystery that the (A) assassin is from spain because in the clues it appears the only mention of an assassin is from spain, and they trained in palatinat, thus the clothing. it could easily be a palatinat assassin but hmmm, dang you warspite...

(B) its really hard to figure this out because austria is the one that seems to have started the motive and england jumped on the bandwagon, but it says that england sent money to hansa, why? can we get the clue from hansa somehow? its 50/50 england/austria on the monarch hiring.

the motive is obvious now after the turkey clue.

sorry if that didnt help any, can we choose not to answer and not lose or gain any money warspite???:D

just reading over the senators ideas and the clues again, i think it was england because if they payed money to someone, could be they are hiring an assassin through the hansa bank, but that hansa clue could help hanseatic league right?

we will see.

Senator Carolus Gustavus Rex of Milano adresses the Senate for the first time. :)

"Dear Senators, most honourable Doge.
I thank you for trying to solve this crime that has been comitted against my late father, Carolus Rex. Thre murderer(s) shall be punished, and punished HARD!! :D

Personally, my highest wish is that I get to follow in my fathers footsteps, become a General or a high rakning officer. :)

Still, right now, my greatest concern is that the murderer(s) get caught and punished. If a country and a monarch is behind it, punish them with total war!!    "

When Carolus Gustavus Rex leaves the podium, some Senators are pleased and some are a bit schocked. :D

I'm not done reading through the thread (I do all this mainly at work when I'm not busy with other stuff so I only average about 3-4 pages/day) so forgive me if this country has already been taken or if you've already solved the mystery. My choice to investigate is the Hanseatic League.

Carolus Rex,

Have you picked a country to investigate? I went back a couple of pages , and didn't see a request from you. Your input would be really appreciated. :)

BTW...3 hours to go until I make my final decision.

Whew, finally done. Senator Gandalf is back in action. Expect a full update on my activities soon.

Xanadu -

If Warspite doesn't get back in time to give us the clue for Hansa before you have to leave maybe you should delay you decision on the mystery till after you get back. We can all debate it in the mean time. It seems that we're all pretty uncertain and it would be good to have all the details we can.

Also, why don't you post your state of the union address and set some direction for Italy so that Warspite can play the game this weekend and post another AAR by the time you get back?

My suggestion is to focus on peaceful activities for the next decade at least. We especially need to improve our reputation with other countries (our allies and the German states to our north). Let's see if we can't vassalize a few Germans like Bavaria, Baden or Lorraine.

Besides that, I agree with snatching up South Vespucci as soon as possible before the Spanish and Portugese move back in. Could we ask Warspite to take a few hundred Ducats out of the treasury in return for him using the Event 17 colonist cheat a few times so we can have enough people to plant a lot of TP's fast? You know, it'd be like offering a government cash incentive for people who agree to become colonists or traders. I recommend subtracting 150 ducats for every 3 colonists. Oh, and we also need to move into Indonesia and SE Asia as quick as possible, those Spice and Chinaware provinces really drive your trade values up for only the price of a few Trading Posts.

HANSA- The medici family once again intercepts a bank exchange from the hansa, it seems the very funds from Queen Elizabeth were merely forwarded secretly to King Felipe of spain. (so much for heathen secrets) how about a big round of applause for the great Medici family of florence errr in real history the medicis were kicked out of florence.

By the way expect more historical figures to pop up, feel free to play with them as they are NPC characters i just will have fun with.

for example Michelangelo was my first historical non game npc character over last couple years

and to answer gandalfs request for money for settlers, this is extremely ironic because just as i was coming home from work i thought how italy in the game is void of colonial dynamism making it extremely disadvantaged in game terms compared to england and spain. I think though, italy is at a stage they are huge players in the empire game and to facilitate the lack of settlers given by the game. again i open up the edit feature for flexibility for our purposes.

So i put a price tag of 50ducats on each settler if the doge wants to buy settlers to beef up colonization beyond the one settler a year that we get. opinions??? remember also doge has ability to greatly alter the game beyond the computer program as i have complete control over the game (editor) so you saw hungary lost a land to austria, well if we ever take that land back from austria, we can edit the game to give it to hungary as im sure would have happened in reality you know what i mean
:)

O.k. Senators......

How does this sound.
England "rented" Spains' trained assasins skills. Therfore England is the Monarch who is responsible. Spain is from where the assasin came from. With both humiliation , and revenge in mind.

This is not my official statement Warspite. I am just running this by the other players.

The only reservations I have is that with (to many) settlers you might make the game way too easy. How many is too many is the problem but 50 ducats doesn't really stop you from getting as many as you want. If you are not careful you might by the time 1650 comes around have the game won.
I like the idea of giving Hungary back land it lost!

Dang, Xanadu, that sounds like my answer. :D What worries me is that I never really like playing this kind of game and usually don't do well, so if this is the answer, I'll just go and get a big head. :)
Well, it's only money. So go for it.

Warspite,
I really don't see why this is so expensive if we choose wrong. It seems that it would be more appropriate for the country we wrongly accuse to have a casus belli against us, as well as drop our relations with that country and its allies/friends.
