I beleive that I can say, with no exageration, that without Carlous Rex Italy might not be a nation today, let alone a unified one!

Page three of my odyssey in Venice. =)

The next page will be the last one. Sadly. :D

from his pics
"The Bridge of Sighers, an old prison, the left partof the building was where they held the trials, and the right part was the prison. If they walked over the bridge, back to the prison they had been found guilty, probably by Senator Xanadu or Jeep. =)"

DYNAMIC COLONIES AND THE END OF A DYNAMIC HERO

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 1560
The naples army arrived for rest in Valencia on the 10th however Doge Misha commanded that the Naples army be sent to anglia to lay siege to the english capital. So preperations began to carry out his wish.
Eagerly Italy waited for news of the expedition to Lisbon to attack the heart of the Portuguese empire.

Doge Misha officially gives command of the army to general Robert McCollum, Rexes succesor. Robert was enroute to Lisbon and would not get the news until later. As for Supreme Commander Carolus Rex he was taken Milan and given aid by the best doctors of Italy and France. The great warrior Rex was dieing and it seemed no one could help him. Mourning began around all of Italy and her allies. However the great general was not gone yet, as always he kept fighting on even in weakness. He wasnt giving up.

MARCH 1560
General Robert lands in Tago with his Milan army of 11/0/55 and battles 4000 enemy. After a brief battle the Portuguese are routed and siege of Lisbon begins.

10th A trade post is built in maracaibo

23rd England and Hungary sign peace, hungary payed england 149ducats to the dismay of Doge Misha and her allies.

APRIL
15th Settlers enroute to Azuay are lost in the mountains, the loss is a big step back for Italy who are trying to mine the gold there and in Yarumal. Speaking of Yarumal, that colony was established on the 27th.

Queen Catarina of Portugal sends an offer of salvador and Marajo colony to Italy for peace. Doge Misha declines the offer demanding Catarina surrender Tangiers but it is declined (hypathetical demand)

MAY
2nd Gen Robert succesfully takes Lisbon capital and then heads to Oporto to siege it and he reaches Oporto on the 21st and begins the siege. Queen Catarina is captured along with many of her advisors while they attempted to escape to Spain. They were held captive by Italian forces in Lisbon while Gen Robert continued the assualts.

King Felipe of spain demanded from Doge Misha that Queen Catarina be set free as this is a war of men not of monarchs. King Francois in his arogant and traditional manner also demanded that Doge Misha give liberty to an honorable monarch of a sovereign nation. Under great pressure Catarina was given passage by Italy to Spain in June.

JUNE
Teutonic Order pays Hungary 146ducats for peace in their war.

22nd Gen Storia orders his cavalry of 700 horsemen to retake the new trade post of portugal in minas gerais. He then sends the cavalry to itaimas.

JULY
Gen Storias cavalry takes control of itaimas, Portugal was begining to build more trade posts to replace the ones burned, but it was foolishness as the war was still going and Portugal had no way of stopping Gen Storias assault.

Adm Lomellini and Veniero suffer losses of ships to attrition but head back to Valencia to replenish. Thus the assault on England is once again delayed to the dissapointment of Misha.

10,000 Italians that landed earlier in the month begin sieging algarve in south portugal on the 10th. Now as lisbon lay in italian control, so too soon would the whole of portugal in iberia.

AUGUST
Carolus Rex continued to live and do great things for the republic even while bedridden due to ailments. He was weak in body but strong in spirit and from his bed in Milan he helped aid Gen Robert on battel strategies. It was Rexes idea to take out portugal now instead of splitting the army on assaults against England. He said one at a time and thus another 13,000 men landed in Tangiers and began a siege there. However 3 ships were lost over two months to naval attrition in troop movements. It was estimated that more would be lost in an assault of england later.

SEPTEMBER
4th Gen Storia helps to establish the trade post in Surinam, now he begins to help built a trade post in Guyana where the gold is to be claimed for later.

22nd 700 cavalry in brazil take yet another new Portugal Post of Parnaiba. It seemed that once the leadership of Portugal was lost, greedy POrtuguese settlers and merchants sought fortune in brazil but they made one mistake, they flew the Portuguese flag and thus Italy found them to be easy targets. Sweet punishment for scoundrels.

23rd Gen Storia with 1100 infantry are attacked by 1500 natives in Guyana. The General would be cast into a battle of his life he had never imagined. The natives there attacked him and there were few losses in battle, then Storia would attack with few results, then natives would attack with few results. After a dozen seesaw battles Gen Storia finally subdued the natives by December 4th, he was however down to only 400 men.

OCTOBER
10th Teutonic Order pays france 81ducats for peace.

19th Recife post in brazil is taken by Italy, another easy prey.

Sieges continue in Portugal and Tangiers.

NOVEMBER
Italy pays off a 200ducat loan to the bank, debts are gone now.

4th colony in Azuay is successfully expanded to 200pop

22nd In a crushing blow to the Italian alliance, Hungary cedes Carpathia to austria for peace. It seemed Italies strategy of leaving her allies to fight austria backfired. It was thought that austria would be quertered by Poland and Hungary but Hungary was hit hard by the emperors armies. Hungary blamed Italy for the disgrace and relations remained low at +56 compared to Poland +196

On a good note at the end of the month, Gen Robert took control of Oporto and moved to help take Algarve also.

DECEMBER
Italy after being banned from the delhi cot by the mughal empire, now is beginning to take over the mexico cot of spain. that cot is worth 600d and italy was nearing a monopoly already.

20th settlers reach Yarumal and expand colony to 200 pop

ASSASINATION OF CAROLUS REX a mystery game
On december 28th while only the owls were awake at the Rex mansion in Milan. a dark figure entered the third story window of Carolus Rexes bedroom. With no guards around, the dark figure closed in on the great and heroic Italian figure of Carolus Rex. The great general was still a warrior however and was awakened by the slight sounds the attacker made. He waited for the figure to make his move then Carolus Rex grabbed his dagger from under his pillow and struck at the figure. Drawing blood the figure let out a yelp in pain as Rex set the dagger into the mans left leg. But this was no ordinary thief and the weakened REx could not fight as well as the attacker.

When guards ran to his bedroom they found him laying dead in his bed. Searches were sent out to find the attacker which they tried to using dogs to follow the scent of the blood found on Rexes dagger. The scent led the search north into Helvetia and farther north. Another clue to the killers identity was a piece of black cloth made only by germanic seemsters.

Now here is how the mystery game part of this works. Each senator (YOU THE READER) will be given one chance to gather a clue. You do this by picking a country in europe. Each country has a clue to solve the mystery of Rexes death that i have ready and will provide to the senator once he picks his country to search.

IMPORTANT
AFter everyone has picked a country and i have given them their clue. It will be up to the senators and the Doge to discuss all the clues and come to a conclusion of A-WHERE WAS THE KILLER FROM (COUNTRY) B-WHO HIRED THE KILLER (MONARCH) C- MOTIVE OF THE GUILTY MONARCH (double motive) need only one for right answer!

THE KICKER IS....
Only the Doge can give the answers to each three questions, once you all come to a conclusion. The doge solves the mystery with all his senators help basically. So the doge is responsible for solving the mystery or failing to. If the Doge solves the Mystery not only will he be cool  but i will award Italy 100ducats in the game. However if the wrong answers to any of the three questions is given then, the investigation is a failure and i will deduct 500ducats from the Italy treasury. (little pressure)

This mystery game is a little side plot to the aar i thought up after playing 121b bakers street mystery games with friends. Plus riddles and mysteries are fun for everyone. Its hard perhaps like this but ill try to make it workable and dont worry it isnt impossible. If you know the aar you wont have much trouble helping the Doge out.

Questions just ask, but select a country to start this out and ill give clue. Doge Misha after i post my next update of 1561 it will be Doge Xanadu responsible for the investigation progress and answers. So for now everyone select your country for a clue (dont pick the same country by the way) and ill give clue then you can help doge with opinions of the answers to the above three questions.

Ok lets give it a shot...THE GAME IS AFOOT (famous bakers street game saying:D )

WOW COOL PICTURES, well pictures all the same but you have just made this aar thread that much more fun to read and look at with those pictures of our old capital. We would really like to see more pictures of the mighty empire if you have them. perhaps pictures of istria or illyria (dont know where you went in croatia) and also pictures of tyrol and helvetia THE ALPS.

I think you have just set a trend mr Rex. You have made this not only a text and game aar, you have made it a living aar full of pictures of real glory and landmarks.

This aar is not only a tribute to the people who enjoy it the most but to the game itself, the makers of this awesome game europa universalis and the great history of a continent portrayed in this wonderful historical simulation.

GREAT WORK CAROLUS REX FOR MAKING THIS AAR THAT MUCH MORE FUN AND BETTER TO READ.

hey, where is the picture of you Carolus Rex :D

hey i have an idea, how about all our senators if your able (including me) supply a picture of ourselves for to post on this aar so we can put a face to the name? that would be cool, now i just have to find that picture of arnold schwarzinager i have laying around :D kidding.

Warspite, I have a question: what nations do you have set to majors in this game? I wouldn't want to do this, b/c our badboy rating is already too high, but it would be interesting if we were able to annex Portugal. Hmm... maybe we should annex Spain sometime... :D
