Dear Senator Driver,
As i read your recent note I was filled with a deep saddness. It is always depressing to see a great man having fallen so far, as it seems that you have done. Alchohal can be a great vise, you would do well to stay away from the harmful stuff if you can not control yourself.

As for your comments in the previous letters, I am sorry to see that it merely demonstrates your ignorance of my proposal. If you had studied my speach, you would have coem to understand that my plan would be for the limiting of the power of Doge and the increasing of the power of the Senate in relation. Not the other way around, as you seem to have come to believe.

Finally your attack upon my personal life was uncalled for. My family and I have had our problems in the past, and I pay for my mistakes every day. It has only been in the past few motnsh that my son, my heir, would even speak to me! If you knew me at all, you would nto call my joining the military to be seeking glory. I did it only after my brother died, as well you know. Your slanderious insults and attacks are nothing mroe than the petty attacks of a toothless dog. Cease them at once.

RUMORS SPREAD 1st of Jan 1574

Faster than a speeding pigeion, quicker than a papal donkey the rumors spread through rome like wildfire, spurred on by a big mouthed servant girl. Pope Pius was dead after the new years in the papal palace.

The rumors were confirmed the next morning as the cardinals were seen gathering for the conclave.

On january 7th the conclave ended and the new Pope emerged as
Gregory XIII.

OOC : During the following days of the infamous decret from the Doge in Venice, every Senator secretly receives a small and obscure invitation card from payed servants. It is written on the cards :

"Alcohol at Senator Livraghi's Family Mansion in Trieste. Month first Wednesday between 4 PM and midnight. 1 Ducat by bottle, free to be sold Senators only."

At his Family mansion, Alessandro Livraghi prepares his next Wednesday evening to welcome any Senator willing for a good drink. A servant assists him during the classifing of his numerious excellent wines from Austria, Spain and the Adriatic Coast of Illirya.

Livraghi : I hope the best wine I can afford frrrom my wide wealth will convice them to accorrrd theirrr supporrrt against this... poorrr excuse forrr a ban.

Servant : But my Lord, the Doge has a good reason for this banning. He is worried for the goodwill of the state's concillors...

Livraghi : But how will the Senatorrrs have theirrr motivation forrr theirrr worrrk without enjoyment and fun? And most of the Senatorrrs arrre rrrich. How will they enjoy theirrr forrrtune without spending it in lavish parrrtys? No Also, this is morrre a leach on Senatorrrs' necks than a rrreal worrrrrry for the welfarrre of the State. Senatorrrs must not tolerrrate this barrrrrrierrr against theirrr own pleasure. We must lobby!

Servant : But how will you do this, my Lord?

Livraghi : Well I have plans... *knock-knock*... oh, this must be some guests rrready to drrrink and have fun! Welcome them Also.

Servant : Yes My Lord. Will you explain the plans after, my Lord?

Letter from Senator-General Robert McCollum to Doge Gronchi ]

Dear Doge,
It was with great alarm that I recently gained news of your recent ban of acholhalic beverages for the use of Senators. Sir, if I may be so bold, I fear that this proposal is not a good one. Although the drinmk can have many dire concequences, such as its recent twisting and destruction of my former friend Senator Driver, it is only wrong to denigh the majoirty because of the problems of a few small individuals. I feel I must warn you that this may cause another firestorm and opposition to your reign.

Secondly I am also forwarding you a brief document which gives a brief outline which would detail the bennifits that a consitution could bring to Italy. Copies of this document are also being sent to many high ranking Senators, such as Senator Storia, Sharur and so forth. Although I will be the first to admit that one of the goals of this consitution would be to create a more balanaced government and limiting the power of the Doge while increasing that of the Senate, I can also assure you that any Doge who would call a convention together to discuss and write up such a plan would go down in the annals of Italian History forever known as "The Lawmaker".

In closing, I do hope that you would consider reversing your current stand on the use of alchohalic beverages, as well as my proposal for a constitution. It shall be a great pleasure to return to Rome after this war and see my belvoed city and government once again. I would like to take the initiative and invite you to dinner at my villa upon my return.

basically i killed Pius two years after his historical death so he had it coming, now his death doesnt have to be natural, (read the post carefully, the cause of death is wide open)

As Pietro put down the document, Marco entered the room: "A letter for your father, young master. Would you like to see it?"

"Yes Marco, thank you" replied the young man as he took the letter. As he read it, he saw it was from McCollum, something about a constitution. "Interesting, interesting indeed!" thought Pietro as he drew a piece of parchment to write a reply.

It may have come to your attention to my father is not well. It may have prompted your measure to put a ban on alcoholic beverages. True, my father has fallen into alcoholic stupor. I believe it has to do with the loss of both my mother and his friend Gandalf.

In his will, my father states that I should replace him should he be unable to exercice his position. It is why I write you today. It is requested that I present evidence that I have the State's permission in this. I need your written consent, as well as that of at least three Senators in order to take my father's seat in the Senate.

If your Excellency were to give me his blessing, I swear I will work to my best of my ability to continue Father's work for Italia's glory.

I have given your Constitution idea some thought, and I see merit in it. You have my utmost support in this. Clearly defined power structures and laws would be a boon for Italia. I believe we should form a Senatorial commitee to discuss this issue further.

yeah sorry about that aye, dont know what happen with mailbox. Anyways the reason i never told you before is its like this. Last night before bed, i was studying up on the late roman empire and then something triggered my memory about the italy aar. I had forgoten to kill off Pope PiusV in our italy aar at 1572. So i at the spur of the moment tried to figure out how to clean this up because i want the AAR to run with the historical popes whoever roleplays them. So thats when i posted about the sudden death of Pius and Gregory is next Pope, it was completely spur of the moment because i forgot to do it before there you have it my friend.
