1572 JULY-DECEMBER

JULY
As part of a more aggressive policy to colonize north america. 450ducats was spent for six settlers to be used and sent emediately to not only claim old english territory but also take over indian infested areas as well.

Niagara is increased to 600 people and the city is just a few months from completion.

General Bragadin sieges Baden and the war against the generic indians in north america begins with fighting in kentucky.

AUGUST
Treasury is wittled down to 8ducats due to spending on trade and merchants and settlers.

SEPTEMBER
Indians in Kentucky are destroyed and work is begun to claim the land for Italy.

OCTOBER
Italy begins the war against the Fox and Miamis indians.

Gen Bragadin takes baden and the prince there is confronted with Ambassador Vincent. AFter negotiations that were mostly one sided, Baden was forced to become a vassal and pay a large sum of money to Italy for peace.

NOVEMBER
The Fox and Miamis indians are beaten and colonists are sent right away to claim the land.

Doge Giovanni sends Ambassador Vincent to Austria to make a peace deal. Instead of land transfer, Italy takes 750ducats for a seperate peace with austria. This ends the Germanic war and now the only war Italy was in was against England and her allies Hansa and Teut order.

450ducats are spent on six more settler parties as Doge Giovanni hurridly tries to gobble up as much unclaimed north american land as possible in his Imperial Expansion Policy.

The last remaining english trade posts in the far reaches of north quebec are burned by Italians arriving by ship. No attemps are made to claim those lands.

DECEMBER
Trade post in Eire is established

Poland, Hungary and Bohemia really begin to beat up Austria who has some help from Bavaria.

SUMMARY
Doge Giovanni wanted to end the Germanic war quick so he could send and focus his armed forces on war against England. With the germans defeated plans were put into place to send Bragadin into england to take london and finally defeat the English. Also booty from war victories was used to booste trade via refinary production and colonization in the new worlds.

I thought we were going to win back some land for Hungary and Poland to support our allies for helping us in previous wars??? what happen to that idea?

I like the idea of ganging up on England , its about time we kick their butts after two failed wars. I say we start taking ireland to give us a foothold in that region.

The idea of going all out for trade is an interesting idea, i never really did that. It should be interesting to see how it works out. There might be hope for you yet Jeep, um i mean Doge Giovanni

Vince Lombardi Junior stands before the Senate. He smiles at the crowd and combs back his jet black hair. Many people are astonsihed, it seems as if just yesterday this young man was adressing this body for the first time. Now several months later, he seems to ahve found his confidence, or at least a semblence of it. Smiling ocne again he raises his voice, it is no longer the squueek of the past.

"Senators, Fellow Italians. Greetings. I have recently recieved a message from General McCollum that he wishes to have me address to the entire Senate."

The Senate leans in to hear what the General might have to say. It has been several months since he last appeared before the Senate, or at least got word to the group through Lombardi.

Lombardi began
"Greetings from the Front,
I am sincerly pleased to be writting you today, for I have recently recieved two peices of good news. The first being that Doge Gronchi has decided to give up the stale title of Emperor and return to the position of Doge. Secondly, I have also leanred that the Germanic War has come to an end, except for our allies who battle on agaisnt decedant Austria.

However I wish to address you more on the previous note than the latter. Several years ago I first let it be known that I wished to create a solid constitution for our Republic. As it stands now, our coutnry is governed merely by a long standing list of treaties and obligatiosn that interlink the differant Italian states. Although we are growing more consolidated, we remain a powerful Coalition of minor states who have banded together for reasons economic, militaryistic and nationalistic.

In that speach I warned that, although this sytem has worked so far, it suffers from deep flaws that shall only become mor and more evident as time goes on. Recently, the attempt by a Doge to become Emperor, the first steps down the road to Apsolutism, was thwarted by the hasty actions of the Senators mopst notably the new Senator Storia as well as Chevy Driver, one of them sot respected members in this great hall.

So what, you may ask. After all, the Senate was strong enough to overcome the threat. I shall admit that you are correct, THIS time. But what about next time, and I promsie to you that there shall be a next time. In this case the perpetrator was an overly eager young Doge attemptign to make a name and title for himself. Next time, however, it may be a General, A Popular Senator, perhapse even a member of the clergy! Shall we be able to defeat the next threat, the one after that, or the one ofllowing that, and on so into infinitium.

What we need, instead, is a consitution which extablishes a system that shall efectivly curb the power of the Doge, but also not make the Senate so pwoerful as to render the Doge ineffective in his duties. We must have unity in the law codes, unity in government and so fort so that we may create a solid, indestructable whole!

My friends, we have united Italy militarily and in spirit. Now, let us unite Italy in law as well! A single constitution that shall easily spell out the rights and obligatiosn of all Italians, as well as members of the govenrment, military and even the Doge. I call on you to help make Italy stronger!

There a loud burst of sound as the letter is completed. Many people cheer, some begin to boo. Others jsut look at their neighbors to discuss this change of events. Vince Junior rasies his arms and tries to calm the crowd.

"Before I go I jsut want to make one more announcement of a more petrsonal nature. I wished to thank you all for the support you have given me over them onths, even when I was lackign in a certian fortitude while speaking before you. To honor that debt, I would like to invite you all to my wedding this coming year. I shall be wed to Gertrude McCollum, daughter to Orbert and sister of Donal. Thank you, and go in peace"

there is polite applause. Many people begin to give the young man their congratulations. Atl east one many, a rough looking German(supposedly the Senator from some territory taken from Austria in the past) yells out "You can DO IT, Vince!!!". He is widly ignored.

Chevy Driver stands to comment on vinces speech.

Here is another attempt by a senator to change the fabric of an already successful system. He wants to change and fix what is not broken. Do you know see what he is trying to do? Do you not see he is no better than Doge Gronchi, in that he wishes to change everything?

I oppose this consitutition or whatever you call it, we have our Doge, we have our senate, we have our history and unity, what more do we need. Trust the nobles of the Republic and we will always be strong. Forget about these new foolish ideas that others want just to make a name for themselves.

(much of the senate claps their hands in agreement with the now legendary old peacemaker, who helped to save the republic from Gronchis empire schemes)

I will be interested to hear more of the ideas of this so called constitution, however this are my priorities for the coming years.

Build the trade tech as much as possible to reach new level for more money

Giuseppe sat at his desk in what was his father's study. The portrait of his father had been removed and his portrait was in the process of being painted by Peitro Vannucci . The bright colors that had decorated the den had been replaced with a variety of earth tones. The rather somber look was accented by the two servants who stood or rather leaned against the far wall dressed in several shades of gray. The only sound in the room was the scratching of Giuseppe's quill as he wrote a letter to Lombardi junior. He finished it with:
"And give my respects to General McCollum when you next see him. Please convey to him that I am interested in hearing more on his constitution. Let him know that his support in the past unpleasantness was most appreciated. And my congratulations to you Lombardi in your coming wedding. Please allow me to supply the wine for the festive occasion." Giuseppe signs the letter. He dusts it with sand and carefully folds it three times. He heats the sealing wax and lets it drip on the outside fold of the letter. He then applies his signet ring to the wax which seals the letter. Giuseppe leans back in his chair and for the first time looks at his two servants who still stand quietly against the far wall.

"Baccio I want you to deliver this letter the Lombardi as soon as I am done with you two. Now what news do you have on my dear brother?"
"We have traced him to the south of France my lord and we think he may be hiding in the town of Fanjeaux. His mistress's family have several estates in the area. We aren't sure if he is still there or has fled. He is running like a frightened dog and staying one step ahead of us."

Giuseppe stared at the two servant for a moment which caused them to start shifting form one foot to the other. Finally he started speaking in a low voice that gather in volume as he rose to his feet to accent his message to his two hapless men.
"I don't care how deep the hole is that he has dug to hide in. I don't care how big the rock he has pulled over that hole that he is hiding in is. I don't care what building that he has caused to be built over that rock that covers that hole that he is hiding in. You are to find him. Do you have any questions as to your orders?"

Baccio paused.
"Do we do this before or after I deliver the letter to Lombardi?"

Giuseppe sighed and stared at the ceiling for a moment. He got himself under control and simply said.
"After, now go."

On a small hill top in the middle of a meadow Alessander lay with his head in the lap of Maria. She fed him grapes and they laughed together at the antics of two children that played in the meadow below them. They reveled in the warmth of the sun and seemed not to have a care in the world. They had moved here to spend the summer with the other young nobles that Maria knew. Maria had convinced Alessander that he needed to rest before he attempted to return to Italy and confront his brother and where in the world was it better than the south of France? They would have to go back to the manor soon to get ready for that nights dinner and dance. Alessander was wondering if he really wanted to return to the intrigues of Rome. The only thing that forced him to know that he couldn't stay here in paradise was the need to revenge the death of his father. Well he would go back after the summer was over he was sure. Or maybe after winter since the passes to Italy were so very cold. Time would tell.

Carolus stepped out of his tent and looked at the camp in front of him. Troops to right and left, makeing food and cleaning their GUNS and maybe checking their AMMO. :d
He strolled down between the tents, this beatiful saturday morning, and looked upon the new standards(sp?) his legion had received, the official merch of the Legioni di Milanese. (available at www.geocities.com/carolusrexofmilano )

The flag waving in the wind, with it's red and black striped along with the Rex family shield in the middle, as an honour to Rex I, the great one.

Legend had spread to the camp that a senator that liked surfing had been beaten by a goat in a political debate, live in the Great Chevy Hall.D)
He also was rumoured to run around talking about Ninjas that were coming to kill him and scratch his surfboard.

Carolus walked forward to a man that sat down in front of a tent, he was cleaning his weapon and asked the man : Broccolioli, we have been thru much together, you only a captain and I'm a general. Still I respect you more then the Doge himself!! So I ask you now, do you believe that we will fly in the sky like the birds one day??

Broccolioli : HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Do you honestly believe in that old silly mans theories about aviation??

CGR : Yes.

Carolus walked away, knowing that the conversationg would not take them anywhere, he would be at his best to keep the secrets to himself and try to find that precious black stuff.(Oil, man)

Senator Livraghi let me be the first senator to greet you and say welcome. The senate is half empty right now due to the various wars that we find ourselves but you will meet everyone soon enough. If you need any help finding your way around just ask. As for example the Vatican is just a half hour walk west of the senate. While the majority of the senators live a short walk to the east. If you go north you will find the main entertainment centers for eating or other amusements. While south is the poorer section of the city. Quite smelly and hard on the eyes if you know what I mean. Any friend of Carrrlotti, Hmmm, Carlotti is a friend of mine. Please join me and some of the other senators for a light dinner tomorrow if you can. Again welcome to the senate.

1573 JANUARY-JUNE Econ 260d Treas 1941d Stab +3

JANUARY
In Niagara the settlers have built the city of Nova Sardinia. This is a big event as it is the first inland colonial city in north america. It is also the center of the expanding Italian territories in north america.

FEBRUARY
Enlgand offers a white peace but the english diplomat is taken and imprisoned by Doge Giovanni in a show of force and revenge for the Italian diplomat killed in London. None the less, the peace offer is thrown back in the Queens face. She is furious.

the trade post sent to Gaspesie fails, apparently the ten merchants got drunk while enroute from Nova Illyria and gambled away their assets in the Captain Crunch Pub. So another group was sent to Gaspesie

Most of the Italian fleet of 76 ships is sent to Oporto with Generals Bragadin and GRex for the assault on England. They would assemble and rest in Oporto then sail on to England. The plan looked good on paper to Doge Giovanni, but would it work in reality?

MARCH
Royal Marriages were made with Poland and Hungary once again. This in an effort by Doge Giovanni to keep relations strong with his catholic allies.

Queen Lien of Netherlands sends her displeasure with Doge Giovanni and his policies against the English. She demanded her husband be let go from the Italian army to serve with her but Doge Giovanni refused to let General Bragadin go until the war with England was over.

Trade post is built in the territory of Kentucky, further expanding the north american holdings.

APRIL
Poland annexes the pricipality of Baden, Italy lost its vassal but it is in good hands with Poland after all.

TRade posts begin to spring up in north america, this time in Rimouski.

MAY
Trade Posts are built in Fox and Miamis making the Italian territories in north america greater than all other nations combined.

JUNE
A colony is established in Delaware in hopes of expanding the coastal territories in north america.


SUMMARY
The invasion of England was a massive undertaking, mainly getting all the troops and ships orginized from around the med and to one place. The time was approaching though. Poland and Hungary continued to fight Austria and Bavaria while England braced itself for the incoming Italian assault.

JULY
France in a surprise move begins a large scale invasion of England into Kent. Thought the english navy begins defeating the Frech numerous fleets, the french troops land and cause havoc in England. This could be a great help to prep england for invasion.

AUGUST
Hungary says it has had enough war and accepts 50 ducats from Austria for peace. This leaves POland essentially alone with Bohemia against Austria and Bavaria.

SEPTEMBER
In another surprise move, the French turn around from their invasion of england and now make peace with Queen Elizabeth for a mere 73ducats. This leaves England free to prepare for Italy once again.

OCTOBER
Bohemia strikes a blow to Austria by taking Ostmarch and Poland takes Silesia

NOVEMBER
The Italian invasion force fully assembles in Oporto, now after a quick rest, they prepare to sail on to England with Bragadin and Lomellini leading the way. G REx will follow him with reserves.
The total invasion force was 76 ships and over 50,000 troops.

DECEMBER
76 italian ships off oporto catch 5 english warships and sink them easily, even though england has for some reason very strong morale compared to strong italian morale.

SUMMARY
The big invasion of England is getting closer and efforts to boost trade and colonization continues.

I thank you perrrsonally, Senatorrr Storrria, forrr the warrrm welcome in the Italian Senate. Si, ourrr brrrotherrrs are away in this warrr against England, but we must not stay silent forrr that. Hey dudes, its me the Doge

Anyways great work so far Warspite, i cant wait to see how my plan for invading england works. I think with 50,000 troops and Bragadin there we can do the trick and just take over london and a couple other territories and grab up some land for peace, yes i intend to take micmac in north america to remove that threat.

I also would like to declare 1574 a year of celebration all around Italy in tribute to the republic and its senators (my way of kissing up for my past wrong ) I also have hired the countries finest family counciler to help good ole Senator Chevy and his son Astorio get back together poor guys
