Fellow Senators my votes are as follows

Vote One==2

Not unitl ALL Italy is united will I even consider moving the capital to Rome. Beside I have some negotiations in the delicate stage on some Tiber river front property that I would like to conclude first.

Vote Two==3

Focus on England. I have a premonition that we are going to be seeing a lot of her over seas. Stay away from the Spanish. We haven't finished picking over their bones yet.

Vote Three==??

Since I get seasick just floating in my bathtub I can't really say for sure which way to go. We need enough of a navy to allow us to conduct amphibious assaults and defend our shores. I leave it up to the doge to decide.

Vote Four==2

Although I would not be adamantly against adding another. I can feel the wolves surrounding us just waiting for a sign of weakness.

Vote Five==2

You all know my feelings about the Ottoman Empire. Need I say more?

Senator Antonio Storey of Verona

"As for the infrastructure, im not that good at writing these aars (thats why you all are the meat and bones of it i forgot to write that during and just before the war against spain we built judges in florence, pisa, modena, milan and a couple others. I didnt know if that detail would be needed, sorry. Ill be sure to add that in next time. "

Your doing a great job Warspite keep it up. I don't know how much is too much as far as info about what is happening. You have to be careful or you will burn out with all of the details that you try to include. I don't know if we need to know about every settler that you send out. An example might be to say that a colony has been started in Manhattan and then not bother about mentioning it again until it becomes a city or a disaster happens. I'm making the assumption that you are upgrading the infrastructure as the game goes along and haven't been worring about if a tax collector have been built in such and such location. A general idea is enough for me. Latter in the game there's going to be a lot going on and it can become tedious for you to try to write down everything. I suppose that the senators can ask questions while meeting and those can be answered by you in another post. For example I like to keep up on our rate of inflation since it effects what I do next in a game. I usual manage to keep it a zero but others don't worry about it so I don't think it needs to be mention all the time. Hope this helps. This is well on the way to be the best aar going thanks to you.

Isnt that awesome? yes it is wallachia territory right smack dab in the middle of muslemia. that was gotten years ago in one of the first turkish-mameluke wars early in 16th century.

did you see that moldavia has a chunk of land all the way up in kurland from an earlier war too? awesome stuff.

storey, thanks much for your comments, thats the kind of stuff that helps me fine tune this baby for the better. ill never match ariel or nalivayko in writing good aars but im having a blast with this one. we have many good years of Italia to play with too. i think i want to be a senator too now:)

another reason i started this aar like this is because i love to read about and study history. call it a history fetish:) seriously though, im sure you all love to pick up books and read about this country or that country, wars, politics and kings and queens etc etc. even diaries and biographies of history are fascinating. I try to imagine this aar or game, as it would be in the history books, thats why i am going to write a little off the path here before we continue. Im going to post a wee bit of the encycopedia Italia to tell of Italies rise to power in a nutshell. Ill do that later though, have to figure out a good format first, hope you like the read though.

WHAT A GAME AYE!

i think your aar or story is just as good or better than some of the others warpsite , i havent plyaed game much but thanks to this i see new ideas about it and potential for it to be fun. I have never finished a game but im now playing venice and am in year 1645 and have taken much of turkey so far. maybe you can post this italy scenario sometime so we can all try it out. do you have more scenarios that you have built?

the senator idea is by far my favorite, all the aar seem to be the same but this one is new twist, do more of that. yes ariel writes good i dont know about nalivayko, but this aar is best in its idea i think, just brings me closer to the game, anyway hurry with more stories and aar.

xanadu that is britany, im using igc 2.0k and you can also see norway is seperate also which i regret now. oh well.

as far as that encyclopedia write up idea i had, scratch that. I have a better idea that i want to try. When i was looking through the eu manual. at the back is all the brief histories of the countries and monarchs and leaders. heck they forgot one though:D ITALY

So im going to sum up the first 50 years in the form of a history lesson (paradox style) which you can easily print out and put in the back of your eu manual i might add :) also i will be adding some histories of notable leaders just for fun. I like to play out and write out history, join me wont you.

ill have the 50year history article up in a day or two. in the mean time feel free to write historical details of your own leaders/senator characters, should be fun to read.

heres a quicky example i made

Ludovico of Milan
(country : Italy)
(skill: admin 6
military 4
diplomacy 4
(period of reign: 1517-1520)
(Type: Doge of republic or duke of republic)
Ludovico was the second doge of italy to come from milan. He inherited the desperation war against Naples from doge piero. However this war would haunt also Ludovico in a way that being he could not win victory early enough and was critisized for it. The naples war would last his entire rule. Even though a failure as a war leader, he did however help to strengthen the Italian economy, first with an agricultural revolution in 1517 then building italies first refinery for senator storey in Verona that same year. Ludovico also worked closely with senator Fournier in securing a royal marriage and good relations with Poland and Hungary. However disaster struck Ludovico again on the military front when a combined revolt from the provinces of savoy, romagna and naples forced him to resign in favor of senator fournier in late 1520.

you can check the aar for accuracy too :D

man i love this game, dream come true for this history buff.

*Robert McCollum stands at the podium, passion and conviction burning in his eyes, as always. He stands ready to entrance the Senate with his speach*

Senators, we stand here today at the dawn of a brand new epoch in Italian history. Behind us is the graveyard of the past, where lay the bones of Naples, Savoy, Venice, The Papal States and many other nameless corpses. My friends, we have survived our night in the valley of the shadow of death! I say stare not into the shadows of the past, but into the grand glory of the future. Lets walk boldly into the future that stands before us!

I am not Swiss madman, however *laughs*. That future is not predestined, and I fear that it would be possible to sink back into the dark grave of despair. We must fight against that possability with our every breath and action!

It is for that reason that several of our comrads asked me to speak here today. They wish for me to outline several points that contitute what I would like to call the "Republican Plan", if I may be so bold.

The first tier of the Republican Plan is that the relocation of the capital to Rome is imperative. Currently we hold this penninsula together through military strength, but the National unity we seek is not yet occured. Need I point you to the massive rebellions we have faced in Naples as well as many other regions. The people fear that our government only represents the needs and wishes of the Northern Italian nobles. It does not matter that this couldn't be further from the truth, what matters if the preception of the people. By relocatign the capital to Rome, we will not only be taping int othe great tradition of a United Italy, but also the convincing the peasents and middle classes that we are not solely a Northern Italian creation.

The Second tier of the Republican plan is colonization. You have all heard me, as well as my father, speak up for Colonization. I can not stress this plan of action enough! When I hear Seantors speaking of a quest to conquer North Africa or the Holy Land, I can do little to suppresss my disbelief at their short sightededness/. These are lands who's time of glory has long since past, and so shall ours be if we do not move soon! The future lies in America and, to al esser extent, Africa as well. We must carve out an Empire there, not in the depleted mediteranian.

Which brings me to one of my major points of discussion today. I have heard tales told of a rich land in Western South America which the natives call the Incan Empire. Recently, when I was blessed with the time to research the maps that we stole from the Spanish, I came upon just such an entity detailed! The Inca exist, and are still free from the advances of the evil Spanish!

I declare that we MUST move and conquer this rich land for ourselves. We can teach these primitives the advanced ways of our society, brigning in Christianity as well as our blessed Republican form of government, as well as protecting them from the genocidal Spanish! Not only will these help these poor Incans, but it iwll give us a deffinate foothold in the America that woudl be easy to defend and expand out from. Do you nto recal that the beginings of the Spanish empire began with the conquect of the Aztecs? Let us follow the example and do the same to the Inca!

I believe so highly in this venture that, should our Doge not wish to undertake it, I shall personally raise an army with my family's own money and lead the invasion myself, gifting Italia with my conquests.

Moving on to the third teir of the Republican plan, I call for no offensive wars in Europe. We shall make no effort to initiate a war against any power in Europe. However, this does not mean that we will not, nor shall not be able to undertake, a war if pressed into the horrid buisness. In fact, we in the Republican plan wish to encircle our enemies, there by making a war more unlikely as well as more likl to be won. We should, in due hase, attempt to add POland to our allaicne, but Hungary as well as Persia. With this strong allaince we should be able to saftly defeat the Turkish warmonger, as well as the rump Austrian state in Bohemia. Meanhwile, our French allies would give us protection and help in any further wars against Spain.

The final plank of the Republican plan is to strengthen our military creating at least one more army, equal in size and strength to theo thers which currently exist in the Republic, but ONLY if it does nto interfere with the contruction of colonies or the well maintnence of our navy.

Come to my side Senators, join the Party of the Republican Plan and let us set find our place in the sun! We shall conquer the Incan Empire, colonize the new World and bring peace and prosperity to all Italians! Gloria in Excelcis Italia!

*Robert McCollum leaves the senate Podium to a mixture of chears as well as a few boos. He shrugs, he will prevail in the end*

In closing this woudl mean that I vote

Voting FOR:
Capital in Rome
Alliance with Persia as well as Hungary
Creation of a New mIlitary
Continue colonization
Also the annexation of the Incan Empire if possible(not sure if it would be possible to ahve a small army created as a random event if ol Robert sets of on his own...)

thanks

by the way i have tallied votes so far, waiting for the rest to vote while we dabble into some history joy writing.

Daniel McCollum
(country : Italy)
(skill: admin 6
military 4
diplomacy 5
(period of reign: 1523-1541)
(Type: Statesman)

Daniel McCollum was the son of Don Can McCollum, a political refugee from English controlled Ireland who came to the city of Ravenna in the late 1480's. Upon arriving in Ravenna, the elder McCollum began a distillery which would gain the family great reknown as well as wealth in the coming years. Youn Daniel became a strong advocate of the Republic, along with his father, and began to see himself as an Italian of personality, if not by blood(although he still retained close ties with his family back in Ireland)
McCollum first ran for and won Ravenna's seat in the Senate after a hard fought battle in 1523. His early years in the senate were unassuming, and she showed little of the brilliance that would becoem his trademark in later years. It was not until the aftermath of the wars with the Papal States that Daniel would begin to enter the sceen.
He became a strong supporter of Italy's alliance with France, as well as for the complete unification of the Italian people under one government. In his later years he also expressed his desire to begin a system of colonization, as well as expanding the Italian alliance to include POland as well as Hungary as a counter weight to Austria. Daniel McCollum was also a closet Protestant, who advocated the creation of a national Italian church to spurr thew economy as well as colonization, even goign so far as to sen his son to school in Northern Germany.
Daniel McCollum died of a heart attack on the Senate floor in 1541, after giving a rousing speach calling ofr revenge against Spain, and to show little mercy to the nation. He was suceeded by his heir apparent, Robert McCollum

Mosquito Driver of florence
Country: Italy
Skill: adm 5 mil3 dipl 8
Period: 1492-1541
Type: Senator/General

Mosquito was born in Rome while his family was visiting for Papal matters. His wealthy upbringings in the late 15 century led him to one of the best schools in Italy. When his father died in 1491 Mosquito was given his fathers seat in the senate of the new Italian republic. At first not a proponent of such an endeavor he quickly warmed up to the unified Italy idea. His activities in the senate led him to be in charge of the savoy army of Italy and led it on several war campaigns. Not notable for his military prowess, Mosquito did none the less, help to win the naples revolutions and the spanish-italian wars of the 1530s. In his last years he settled down in Venice to help Mariani with matters of state, He was a statesmans statesman and was pivitol in establishing better relations with other countries.

The Fournieri of Sienna

Theobaldo
(country : Italy)
(skill: admin 2
military 4
diplomacy 9
(1460-1523; period as doge: 1520-1523)
Theobaldo Fournieri was a son of the Fournieri banking family of Sienna. Although born at the end of the era of the warring italian city states, he became quickly a strong supporter of the ideal of an independent italian nation. Selected as Senator for his native city in 1496, he supported strongly the idea of the french alliance and later lent his support to the peaceful annexation of the duchy of Savoy. After the conquest of the papal estates, he pushed for the election of his nephew Giancarlo Fournieri (see next entry) to replace the previous Pope. His strong opposition to Doge Piero's policy during the Franco-Austrian war, along with that of other prominent Senators (Storey, D. McCollum) led the doge to embark upon an expansionnist trend against Naples. However he was elected as head of the republic only in late 1520, after this war was prosecuted by Doge Ludovico of Milan. With the help of his nephew the Pope he then implemented a policy of persecution of the follower of the Orthodox faith in the italian-controlled islands of the Mediterranean, and begin the slow process of improving the foreign relations of his country, particularly with Poland and Hungary. However his persecution and diplomatic policies were impopular, caused many revolts and emptied the treasury. He was instrumental in the creation of the Holy Italian Papacy but was ousted from power in 1523 by Andrea Gritti. He died shortly after a bitter and angry man.

Giancarlo
(1482- ; Pope Peter II : 1514- )
Nephew of the preceding by an older brother. Entered the Franciscan Order at 20 and rose quickly through the ranks; became abbott of St Francisco monastery in Assisi itself at 30. Elected Pope in 1514, he took the name Petrus Secundus (Peter II) and supported activelly his uncle during the persecutions of 1520-1523. With the support of his uncle he developped the idea of the Holy Italian Papacy which becam effective in 1524. He later brought his influence to bear on Doge Gritti to increase the size of the Holy Roman Legion and excommunicated the rulers newly converted to the protestant heresy as well as the King of Spain and the Archduke of Austria when they declared war on Italy. Among his last acts was the creation of the Company of the Apostles, a religious community whose members volunteered to sails with italian colonists to help them convert the pagan natives.

Tomas
(1491-1541; Senator from Sienna : 1523-1541)
Succeeded his father as Senator in 1523. Supporter of the faith but tolerant toward other christians, he opposed the Treaty of Vienna. Not a very noteworthy figure and indeed sometimes thought of as a coward, he surprised all his peers by being the first to side with Senator Mariani during the coup attempt of Senator Neros and his french allies led by the duke of Guise. In his latest years he continued to support the development of colonies and the betterment of Italy's diplomatic efforts, opposed aggressive wars in Europe, but showed himself a militarist to preemptively dissuade turkish aggression; he even proposed contingency plans to take advantage of such an event.

Senator Storey of Verona
(country : Italy)
(skill: admin 5
military 2
diplomacy 5
(period of reign: 1503-1533)
(Type: Merchant/Statesman)

Born in Sicily Senator Storey was the son of General Nico Storey the hero of Aprilo bridge where he shouted those famous words to the attacking Austrians "You no pay you no pass". Senator Storey was a man who lived life as it should be, to the fullest. Known for his energy and virility he had fourteen children by his faithful wife Maria. The number of his illegitimate children can only be guessed at. After spreading his seed across the island of Sicily was known to grumble "no amore, no amore" ! He led an unremarkable life until the untimely death of his father. Taking over the family business he soon displayed a talent for making money. In a few short years he had emerged as one of the leading merchants on the island. He dealt with Christens, Jews and Arabs equally. He was fond of saying "money has no religion but itself." His financial empire ran from southern Spain to Lebanon. Lebanon would prove however to be his undoing. While in Lebanon he ran afoul with a local bureaucrat who having been bribed by Senator Storey’s competitors confiscated his land and goods. Disguised as a eunuch he managed to slip out of Lebanon swearing to never again trust a bureacurat. It is believed by later scholars that this was the beginning of his obsession with the Turks. He was known for the rest of his life to never end a speech without attacking the infidel Turk. Finding himself destitute he took his family to northern Italy and settled in the city of Verona. It was here that he first began his operatic career which while limited by his late start still became the vehicle of his reemergence into prominence. He embraced the city and people of Verona and soon made a name for himself by negotiating a profitable transportation contract for all goods traveling between Venice via Verona to the rest of Italy. He was elected to the Senate in 1503 and served until his death in 1533.

He was succeeded in the Senate by his son Antonio Storey of which much can be written.

Considering what you've done in Austria and Spain it MUST be you. At least that's my opinion (and well I control my cousin the Pope for the moment and you're head of the Holy Roman Legion, so you've got my active support).

Well leaving for the week-end now as it's 8.10 pm here. Will only come back on monday.

Period of reign....1504-
Title-- Senator of that backwoods province , General of the First Army

A great and long tale can be told of Xanadus' life as long as the silk road itself. Many moons ago in the desolate stepps of the Altay Mountain Range was born to an ironsmith a son with a divine destiny. Easrly in the years of Xanadus' life it was evident that he had that ability to lead groups of people like it was second nature. All the boys of the clan followed him when they would practice their hunting skills. They would ask for his advise in a lot of matters. Although honestly the were not always the wisest of choices. All this before the young age of 10. In his adolecent years he mastered the art of horse-back warfare. With the years spent in his fathers smithing shop he gained the strength needed for survival in the heat of battle. He learned to ability to anticipate his enemies moves in battle from the years of leading his hunting pack learning the ways of nature. He was destined to lead , but who for even he did not know. There was something missing in his life , but he could not figure it out.
By the time he had reached early manhood he was leading raids on his enemy. He was a very aggressive , and fierce warrior. All his enemies knew of him , and knew that individually they wouldn't stand a chance against the juagernaut of destruction. On a very cold , and numbing day in the stepps a pact was made between the clan leaders opposing Xanadus rise in power. They all agreed to a temperary truce so that can rid themselves of the one person who could strip them of their own power.

In the year of 1500 a storm was heard rolling in from the west. At first Xanadu just shook it off. After a few seconds he knew it was not the weather. He stood silent listening and as he began to run to the stables a mass of horse-back riders came over the hill of in the distance. He knew why they came. He just could not believe there were so many. He gathered his men that he had of his ckan. Though they were not fully prepared for battle he knew he and his men stood a good chance.

Metal clashed , blood was spilled , and destiny was unfolding. As great as a leader that Xanadu was he still was only human. He watched in horor as his father , the man for whom he owed all his love , and loyalty was cut down by three soldiers. He watched how his mother was brutally murdered by a back-stabbing coward. For there was nothing he could do to stop this.he was already engaged with 2 enemy soldiers at is was. He truned this sorrow and anger into rage. A rage that not even his fellow clan members have ever seen before. His eyes glowed with vengenace , and they knew what what his plan was. He cut down one by one the weak enemy knowing full well that he is getting to deep into his enemies ranks. This did not stop him for now he did not see a reason to live , and nor did he care.
His brutal advancement came to an abrupt halt when an arrow laced with a poison struck him in the shoulder. He dropped to the ground helpless , and vulnerable.

To his amazement he woke up only to be tied and bound like a dirty swine. He saw his clans belongings burning. Bodies of both friend and foe litter the ground. He saw no ally alive. He was alone. The leaders of the clans had him propped on his knees in a begging fashion. They said that death was to honable for him. They had decided to banish him from the Monghol land. His banishment from a clan ,his homeland is a much worse judgement than death , and Xanadu knew it. They gave him no horse,no food , no water. He left a stone cold man.

He wandered the lands for a few years when a kind man befreinded him , and offered anything to help him out. Xanadu not used to this was reluctant at first , but after getting used to the man he began accepting his generosity. He soon became friends with this short , but impressionable man. He learned this man was a follower of a religion called Christianity. Xanadu was taught in the ideals , and principles of this new religion. Although at first he did not like the idea of having only one wife he figured since he didn't have one to begin with he found that "toleratable". The time passed , and Xanadu grew more and more accustomed with this new way of life. He gained the respect of this holy man , and respected him back.

One day a man dressed in red robes came rinding up to the somber residence. He had a message for the priest. It was strange that a man in bright red traveling alone was not afraid of being attacked by bandits. His mentor told him that he was a well known man fron the church. It wouldnot be wise to strike a man of the holy house. The message sent from his brother in Venice saying that war will be coming soon , and his presence is needed. The man sat in this thatch chair and stared at the paper. When Xanadu approced him to ask the old man already had his answer for him. He said he could not go due to his old age , and failing health. He knew the time was near , but was caught unexpectedly with a big dilemma. He pondered for a bit , and then spoke softy to Xanadu. "Xanadu go to Venice in my place. My brother will understand why I had to send someone in my place..he'solder than I. I know I can trust you. I know you have the heart in you. I know you will love God as I do. Please take my place on the Senate. This I offer to you".

His destiny continues to unfold.

Xanadu arrived in Venice in the year of 1504. He was as lost in the city , an child in the forest. His first day in the Senate was filled with trivia , and customs. His mentor taught him well. He had apperently been training Xanadu for this job almost the day they first met. He saw the potential in Xanadu. He was right. Not long after his arrival his fellow Senators saw a leader inside him. Xanadu knew it , but wanted to earn the trust , and respect from his peers before asserting himself into the Army.

In a short time Xanadu became General of the First Army. And not long after that he would have to show his skill on the battlefield. As he had expexted Xanadu was triuphant on the battlefield. Just like the days of old. Tis time however he had the support of cannons. And the obstacle of fortresses. For he was not used to this type of warfare. He was reluctant at first , but with the help of his loyal men he quickly learned the tactics of seige warfare.

Now Senator Xanadu of that Backwoods province, General of the First Army resides in a small , but impressive home somewhere in the wilderness. Nobody knows for sure , and he likes to keep it that way. He has yet to be totally acustomed to life in the city. He has a wife...only one , but he is ok with that. They just had the arrival of their first son. It was a joyous day for Xanadu. Someday he hopes his son will surpass his own ability , and serve the Nation of God better than he.
