Hi maybe I am wrong or just in the wrong folder
I just started playing vicky recently, I ve made just a couple of campaigns, what I have found is that Italy unification is totally unhistorical, because is almost totally left to the powers of SAP (which are v poor if the opponent is Austria). This is due to the fact that historically the things didnt go this way. The Italy unification has been primarily a popular demand than a military intervention. The role of Sap has been more than anything else a comfortable house where the italian pops whould have found the principles and the unification they wanted and a good diplomatic instrument to prevent reactions. Looking at the main aspects of the independence wars (there have been three of them) Sap collected almost only defeats and even the France role has been v opportunistic. I will try to summarize them (sorry I cant write events, is there a tutorial anywhere?) It should be also pointed out that difficult internal political problems of Austria brought sap to declare war, otherwise they would have never thought seriously about it.
First War
13/2/1848 Revolters in Vienna
15/3/1848 Revolters in Budapest, rebels everywhere! (Croatia, Bohemia, lOmabardia, Veneto) (Austria will not get rid of it till the end of the year)
22/3/1848 Revolters in Venice control the province
23/3/1848 Revolters in Milan control the province
Rebels obatain government also in Parma and Modena and Sicily island
24/3/1848 Popular opinionship in the rest of italy territory wants military intervention in defence of the rebel provinces, this movement and the obvious advantages of new provinces and less austrian control over the territory brings sap to intervene militarily, every other italian constitutional monarchy is pushed to send troops in the conflicts by the same popular demand, only Parma and Modena which have strong relationships with austria dont intervene.
29/4/1848 Pope retires
15/5/1848 Two sicilies retires, but their troops dont follow the orders and keep fighting for italy
29/6/1848 Milan annexed itself to sap
9/8/1848 Armistice is signed Milan returns to Austria
27/10/1848 Moderates take power in Toscana and work to an Italian Constitution
16/10/1848 Moderates take power in Papal States
26/12/1848 The Italian Constitution Assembly has to be elected by universal suffrage
5/2/1949 Constitution Assembly starts working on the italian Constituition where the pope is for the first time addressed as religious authority and not a political one
12-20/3/1849 Sap reopens the war against Austrians
24/3/1849 Armistice and abdication of the sap king
4/1849 French enter in the papal states in defense of the pope
5/1849 austrians enter in Toscana to re-estabilish the old powers
1/7/1849 End of the Rome Republic
28/7/1849 End of the Tuscany moderate power, the old powers return
26/8/1849 Venice comes back in Austrian hands
This is the first chance Sap should have to unify north italians. In game terms there should be a large revolution movement in Austria. Lucca, Toscana, Papal States, Two Sicilies and sap should have an event forcing them to declare war to Austria (maybe a choice between it and facing revolts in their countries, with the first giving some additional unit by pops joining the armies, they shopuld get revoltrisk even if they sign separate peaces because this happened (dunno if its possible in game terms)). The italian constitution event could add revoltrisk to all except sap and give sap "Papal States to be considered national provinces" for the first time maybe. In particular Venice should be a hot potato in austrian hands cause its occupation by rebels lasted 1 year and half. It should be also discouraged the early invasion of Parma and Modena (which is the only thing which actually works to the objective now in the game) cause they were protected by Austria.
Second War of Independence (French-Austrian War)
11/1850 2/1851 Liberal government, sap is richer.
1853 war in Crimea
1854 Sap join France and England against Russia, Austria remains neutral and its relationship with Russia is lowered
22/7/1858 Sap has a defense alliance with France, In case of war Nice and Savoie would have gone to France, the central italy would have gone to France as satellite and South Italy as another satellite to France, Sap would have had the entire north of Italy
1859 Many new divisions recruited in the sap armies, some of them to the orders of Giuseppe Garibaldi (an extraordinary independent general)
Austria send an ultimatum to sap to decrease its military units, sap refuses it. Austria declares war

4/4/1860 Revolt in Sicily, it expands to the rest of the reign
5-6/5/1860 Garibaldi with few men (around 1000 irregulars) leaves from Genova to Messina to face the 25000 army of the two sicilies, he uses to his advantage the rebels who are everywhere in the reign and many of them join his divisions, he won every battle until he finally conquered Naples (7/9/1860)
In the same month the sap army which was at war with papal states and was conquering everything except Rome in the north and Garibaldi troops met and the general gave all the south to sap. As usual the annexation was made by male suffrage. (21/10)Two sicily (4/11) marche and Umbria annexed to sap (it was everything under sap except rome and veneto)
17/3/1861 Birth of Italy
This is the second big chance for Italy. In game terms there should be an economic growth, the defensive pact with france, military growth and war with austria (also the crimean matter is not in the game, but looking at it like an event sap gains prestige and relations with france and England if it joins, Austria loses relation with Russia). Also garibaldi could be in the game and btw sap obtains lotsa provinces without military effort (they just fight with papal states after the voluntary annexation of some of their provinces after they fought with France in the North of Italy)
Third War of Independence
After the unification of Italy, they got some problems to solve: high crime rating in the south (this seems to happen in the game also if the two sicily should start in worse economic conditions with less industries and no infrastructures and much crime), economic growth and Rome and Veneto intervention.
Soon after the unification Italy has a great debt (the unification costs lot of money) and it is obliged to weaken the military budget, but even if in poor conditions they face a new war to free the italian peoples in 1866. Thats what happened
8/4/1866 Defense and Offense pact with Prussia
5/5/1866 war between Austria and Prussia, Austria offers Veneto to Italy if they dont join the war, they refuse (if Prussia would have won there was an agreement to have Veneto)
20/6/1866 Italy joins the war
Prussia won the war
24/8/1866 Veneto goes to Italy
This causes another red entry in the economic balance
15-22/9/1866 revolts in the south
Papal states are still guaranteed by France
3/11/1867 Garibaldi try to conquer Rome (it was not an official act of Italy) but France intervenes
20/9/1870 after the french-prussian war is concluded and french are defeated is more easy to face the rome matter, Italy conquers it and its annexed
Thats all the other annexations in the North have been made in 1919. In game terms there should be present the economical crisis of the unification, the pact with prussia with the choice to gain an easy Veneto (losing prestige and relations with Prussia) or to fight and have it if Prussia wins. Also the relations between papals and france should be present cause they obliged italy to keep the thing unsolved until 1870.
Hope this is possible to be done, I would write them if I know how, btw Italy must be rewritten cause now its unlikely to obtain unification and if it succeeds its unhistorical. Please write answer and comments thank you.
