Finally got through a full campaign as Italy without any crashes. I stuck with Benito as I wanted to feel how Italy played 'historically'. As an Italian mostly player I gotta say the new focus tree is daunting compared to the old one. Depth and width aside, man there are a LOT of mils tucked in that tree. The population boosts are also massive if I recall there are two 10% manpower boosts, one for non core and one for core.

I even made a handful of mistakes and still finished third just behind Japan.

I certainly have some issues with this patch. I think the plane designer needs more work. Peace conferences seem better, ish, but man Italy feels significantly stronger. Still starved for rubber, fuel, and steel but those problems are more solvable with the new focus tree. So many choices, so many advisors, so much more that can be done. Really well done focus tree.

Next up, I want to bring Catholicism to the world, by force. ...

ANyone else feel Italy is significantly stronger now compared to the old Italy?

It should be. Considering its the Focus of the New DLC. But I think changes to resistance and AI probably isn't constructing the best Aircraft are helping me do better as any country since the update.

Italy is a Major Nation and should feel like one. Historical performance shouldn't matter with the player in the driving seat.

I can't help feeling that in addition to the slight reduction in exp when Italy goes full Il Duce (which makes little difference) there should be a major hit on reliability for all weapons produced. one of Italy's main problems was their government ministers were too close to their industries owners and not caring about tolerances or quality. Lack of spare parts, armor plate made too hard so that it that shattered like glass and shells that varied is size so that they were very inaccurate or in some cases did not fit the guns were all too common.
It would be a good way to represent government corruption for both Italy and Germany if reliability took a massive hit due to concentration of power under the dictator. Currently there doesn't seem much of a disadvantage with concentrating all power with the big man.

I'm pretty sure that the huge production penalty you start with in the "Military Industry" spirit giving a -15% penalty to all research -10% production efficiency -5% production efficiency growth -5% production efficiency base and -10% factory output represents that. Not sure you need to add any more penalties there. You already need to do a ton of foci to get rid of or mitigate those penalties.
