Hi,
I have rather difficult questions regarding some sensitive topic in real history. Please bear in mind that I am not native to the region and might not understand all the nuances - still I don't want to offend anybody.
So questions:
1. What kind of support you think Ustaše commanded among Croatians before invasion on Yugoslavia? I know that their leader ( Ante Pavelić) was exiled from Yugoslavia in 1929 and took refuge in Italy. It is my understanding that support was strong enough to undermine Yugoslavia war effort in 1941 - is that true?
2. As you probably know Mussolini had some territorial claims on Yugoslavia before the war (mainly Dalmatia, although they were expanded later on to include Slovenia and Montenegro - just because), and even lead the league against Yugoslavia from 1925 to 1927 with Hungary, Romania, and Albania. What chances do you think Mussolini (or Italy as a whole) to dismantle Yugoslavia, or force cessation of parts of Dalmatia? Would something like Munich conference, but for Yugoslavia be possible?
3. Do you think Italy had a chance to force establishment of Independent Croatia on it's own (using Ustaše).
Most of the information I have comes from Wikipedia (which is not a perfect source), and I am trying to read Mussolini's War: Fascist Italy from Triumph to Collapse, 1935-1943 by John Gooch in my spare time, but my kids are not making it easy
I would very much welcome input from people native to broad region in question.
