Italy conquers Paris - will Vichy event trigger?

I have picked Italy for my current game. Joined Axis after annexation of Ethiopia. Waited for republicans win in Spain and them annexed them. At peace waited for German Ansluss and Munchen events, then annexed Albania.

Except for conquering Spain it was historical game so far.

Now I am invading France from Spain and I have an opportunity to move to Paris swiftly. Germans are fighting Poles yet.

Will the Vichy event trigger even if it is Italy who conquers Paris? I don't want my game get spoiled by ongoing fighting with France in Africa.

I did the same thing as Italy and it did not fire, which also weakens Germany considerably since you don't get the reduced dissent in occupied France. Plus, a strong Germany, with a capable Italy (you) can destroy the Soviet Union. Not so sure the weakened Germany and you can do the same. At least I wasn't able to, but that's because I didn't build nearly enough infantry.

Excellent point. Bitter Peace will not fire, and the trudge through Irkutsk is looooong.

edit the event for this game and add that italy also can have paris for vichy to fire, and the same with bitter peace

in normal circumstances (ie. no edited events) invading France as Italy is a waste at best, a major problem at worst.

If Vichy DOES fire, you lose pretty much all your conquests, either to the Germans (not sure) or returning them to Vichy.
If it doesn't - no reduced dissent in the provinces, no Bitter Peace...

I am not going to edit the events. And I counted on the case that they won't fire. I will focus on conquering the western coast and the northwest of France apart from France. Then wait for Germans to do the job.

Eventually, maybe those non-Vichy provinces will remain in my possesion after the events. The same thing will happen, I hope, in the USSR, to prevent Germans take all fruits (Baku) for themselves.

There are some valuable provinces in the western and northern France (Bordeaux...) and those could be good starting base for Italian Sealion.

I am not going to edit the events. And I counted on the case that they won't fire. I will focus on conquering the western coast and the northwest of France apart from France. Then wait for Germans to do the job.

If I'm not mistaken, those will be seceded to Germany when Vichy is created. Also, don't forget that Germany needs I think 25% of France for Vichy to fire randomly, and 40% for it to fire immediately.

A) Vichy doesn't fire? Now you can keep your parts of France. Africa is also yours for the taking. You can even fortify Casablanca. Try Operation Torch, now, GI! With your part of France you can probably reach Spanish territory, just in case you didn't intervene in the SCW. Close off the Med!

B) Bitter Peace doesn't fire! Now, when you invade the soft underbelly of the Soviet Union via Turkey and Persia, you can keep all the good Soviet IC you capture. Oh, sure, you'll lose a lot of manpower in Soviet winters. Plan for it!

In fact, if you want a late-game WC, and not just wanting to play second fiddle to the Germans the whole game, I'd say Paris is a must.

It is November 39 and I have just gained control of Paris. But the frost came and I will finish off the French in spring. Germans have nothing from France, I even took Strasbourg and am heading to Metz. Then? Benelux and maybe British Isles invasion.

I lost northern Africa but it is no problem. I made amph. attack on Suez and sent there one DD to prevent grand British fleet from entering. Gibraltar fell a week after September the 1st, because I annexed Rep. Spain after they won. So the Med is already closed.

I hope that in these modified circumstances the Barbarossa strikes. I will be prepared in Iraq, Syria to DoW Turkey. Mountaineers are already in training. Perhaps I will be able to defeat Yug and Greece too to advance quick in Turkey.

My major problem is obvious - TC! I have only 130 IC available. So? Garrisons, garrisons, MPs, MPs... But the manpower is disappearing!

Does anybody here have experience with playing Italy for conquering the world? I hope so, because I still have doubts about future of this Roman empire.

Manage your TC by limiting partisan activity. Make use of land units that do not consume much oil or supplies -- they will also use less TC. Mountaineers are perfect troops for making the best use of your TC. You'll find them very valuable for Greece, Turkey and southern Soviet Union.

Cut up through Persia and India and cut off the German advance. Make sure you get all the way to the Arctic Circle before the Nazis. The rest of the Soviet Union and Asia is yours to conquer, as the Germans will have to advance through your lands.

You have plenty of TC and IC to accomplish this.

It's a waste of time invading SU, just build some kind of defensive line that will ensure your safety from any soviet invasion. Then just roll on the Asia-African nation! because they're much easier. When they're finished, you may crush the soviets. But i don't recommend it

I think I cannot afford to ignore SU, because they would steamroll Germany and become unstoppable. It is impossible to leave the Axis while at war and the peace with Allies is impossible.

I will try to surprise the Red Army from Caucasus and leave Persia as a temporary buffer against British troops in India.

Perhaps, the Japanese will seize much of Asia so they could be a proper brake for the US ambitions.

This turtle strategy could be inpenetrable. Yes, I wouldn't have the problems with TC and manpower but what should I do with Soviets controlling the whole German territory? They would have at least 300 divs and 400 IC at that moment. I think that even with the pearl of India it would be dangerously challenging.

It is Nov 1940 and I took the French territory in Europe, Belgium, Netherlands, British Isles, Yugoslavia and I am just about to DoW Greece. I control the Middle East too besides Persia.

I think that against SU the speed is the determinant of success. By the way, that's why I switched firepower doctrine for spearhead in the beginning.

I have auto-pause on engaging naval battles. Perhaps it will save my navy from being sunk by those pesky Amis

I see that you were in 1954. I am in '40, so it looks like a looong run lies before me. I will start building new navy once Great Comrade Stalin goes to Roma barefooted

You might want to take the slight dissent hit and release some Middle Eastern nations. That'll help your TC -- you don't get a lot of IC for all those provinces.
