Italy becomes my puppet and drags me into its wars? WAD?

I'm in the latin entente not at war with the allies but my faction members are. Italy got D-dayed and peaced out but not without apparently becoming my puppet (without a pop-up announcing it!) and that made me a co-belligerent in their war. I guess it's to mimic WWII... but I would have appreciated a decision to let me chose if I assume overlord status....

The "repulica socialle italiana" in historical run is a huge mess of end game focus tree declaration of wars,
if u go far 1946+ its picking this path on screenshot.
it will also auto leave the axis and become indepent and create the "roman empire" faction:
