Kinda sucks because you only get about 10 divisions and you get overrun by the soviet union real fast, barely holding out. :(

You need to crank out as many divs as possible and try to get northern italy back everytime. After that you can't do much either.

Shame because Italy was my fav country in hoi2.

playing the 1936 scenario with Italy is a lot of fun IMHO, i like the new intel it lets you recreate the roman empire without having to conquer everyone, kinda like having client kingdoms lol
but thats just me

Has anybody experimented much with 1936 Italian naval building strategies in Doomsday? Specifically, does a CVL-centered strategy make any sense?

Seems like either AI or unit changes have made Italy's naval war significantly tougher since the earlier versions of HoI2, where with a bit of luck I could use the combination of the navy and naval air to fairly easily subdue both the Royal Navy's Mediterranean Fleet and the French navy.

Italy is doing quite well in my 1936 GC's as AI (now it's 1941 in my game), it looses far less ships in battles with the british mediteranean fleet and manages to sink some of their cruisers. The Battle in Africa is more realistic, because the british have conquered Tobruk. The other african provinces change the owner every now and then. And A.I. Italy managed to land in israel, and advanced to suez, engaging british forces in a two front war. Only after a medium sized american expeditionary froce landed on the sinai peninsula, the italians had to retreat to palestine.

So especially the changes in naval combat made DD more challenging and therefore more fun, anyway there are some things which aren't so neat about DD in my eyes: no escort fighter divisions and the experience gain of land and air leaders.
