Italian Unification and the French

So I get the event to unify and go to war with all the Italian states and what not; but instead of getting France as an ally, they declare war on me and run me over since their allied to the Two Sicilies. Does this happen to anyone else?

The French have an event where they choose between SP, PS and TS. Moslt of the time they go for SP but somtimes they'll back another country.

I may be wrong...but I think France's choice is dependent on whether a Bourbon or Bonaparte is the Monarch.(?)

i.e. Bourbon always backs the Two Sicilies.

I play France quite a bit, I'd like a choice in the matter, right now the event does not give a choice who to back.

Oh, I guess they get an event where they don't get to choose then. o

Maybe if you weren't asked to go to war vs. Austria first, just after the Italian wars so a million troops don't invade you while your ally sits from a distance watching.

War with Austria wouldn't be so bad is there was an event to end the war when you can control of their Italian lands instead of having to take the capital. Are you still playing 1.01 BTW? I've never seen Austria's total forces were 500k by that point in 1.02.
