Don't know why, but Italy is my favorite country to play as. Could be because it requires a little more forward thinking than playing as a country like Germany. But, I have never played as Italy according to historical events. My process usually goes as follows:
1. Annex Ethiopia
2. Defeat and annex both Republican and Nationalist Spain.
3. Join the Axis asap for the tech bonuses and free energy from Germany.
4. Wait for the Germans to declare war on Poland.
5. Drive the British out of Egypt and capture Suez canal, while simultaneously capturing Gibraltar.
6. Defeat and annex Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece, and Turkey.
7. Open up a 2nd front on the S.U. from the south once Germany attacks.
Anyway, I have several questions:
1. If I played as Italy by strictly the historical events, can I win?
2. Does building factories with Italy really help? I have done this before, and am undecided as to its benefit. I typically like to use my IC to build new units rather than Industry.
3. Any suggestions for alternate ways to play that are fun?
Thanks!
